SGOTM 11 - ChokoMisfits

Congratulations on finishing, Chokomisfits! :goodjob:

how did it take you 33t between Lib-Radio and MM?!

Thanks! I'm still waiting for AlanH to officially give the go-ahead to browse other threads - as soon as he does that, I'll be looking to compare with other teams!

When we got to Radio we noted that we would not have enough votes to win the election, and that we would need to DoW Mehmed and take several of his cities. Our preferred unit of attack was the Cuirassier, so we diverted to grab the techs for that unit. Also, our economy was totally dead and we needed State Property (else Mass Media alone would have taken 40-50 turns to research)... therefore we diverted to Communism also.

and not research CS

We hoped to get it in a trade, but eventually we went back and researched it - we completed it after we already had Oxford Uni - completed research of CS in 430 AD.

We had comparatively few Villages and Towns in our Capital, as we had been mostly working the Corn tiles and the hammer-intensive tiles, so for a long time, Bureaucracy would not have greatly helped us. We got to Education in 55AD mostly via bulbing, through the Theology branch (bulbed Paper + 2/3 of Education, with 2 x Great Scientists).

From AlanH,

Well done

We'll verify the conditions are met, of course. Meanwhile, yuo can go and visit the other threads. Please don't post in the ones that are not finished yet.

If I get time I might look to replay the game, to see if DoWing Zara early would have helped.

Also I guess our plan of running Representation and Slavery for most of the game wasn't optimal (as they cancel out one another's benefits!)

By the way, I played on for a few more turns on the end-of-game file, just to see who Tokugawa would have DoW'd... and the answer was nobody at all !! After ~15-20 turns, he went back out of having enough on his hands!!!

Well played everyone! Great game!!

It looks like the main benefit was to grab Zara's capital, since it was such a great site. I would have to check our early thread to be sure, but I thought we discussed the idea of an early war. We recognized that Zara's capital was an awesome city and that we could leave him with a city in the tundra or desert. But we decided the chance of needing both our DOWs later in the game was too great to risk attacking Zara.

We had planned to run Rep + Caste (rather than Slavery) -- the extra slots for more scientists was a key part of the idea. But without Slavery our production was very poor, a not uncommon result of focusing on specialists.

Interesting. Probably he wanted to DOW Justinian, but the difference in military strength was just too great.

Well played everyone! Great game!!

:agree: I really enjoyed playing with all of you -- it was great to have a full-sized team, and not be short-handed as Misfits struggled with in previous SGOTM. As Smurkz did this game, the only team to not finish. Sounded like they ended up with only 2 active players. :(

I am looking forward to future SGOTM as a member of ChokoMisfits. :D

Sign up thread for SGOTM12 is up. :D

Who is up for the challenge? We were still two separate teams for SGOTM10, but maybe we can claim our two groups of survivors met up while fleeing from the destruction?

Obviously Civ V is coming, and that may be a competitor for time/attention for some team members. (Not for me, unfortunately, unless I can scape up funds for a new computer. :( I barely meet the specs for Civ IV as it is.) But hopefully we can get enough team members interested.

Anyone familiar with the "Rising Seas" option? What exactly does it do? I can't recall ever playing with this option myself.

Who is up for the challenge?

I have just signed up. I hope everyone who signed up for SGOTM-11, will also sign up for SGOTOM-12 as well.

I have some ideas on how we can improve our chances for Winning Laurels, which I will share once our official SGOTM-12 Team thread is started.

I see we only have 3 months to play the game this time, compared to 4 months last time.

And I have no strategy ideas whatsoever! Our rivals (especially Stalin) may have Fission, etc from the start!!!!!!

Great to see lots of sign ups for ChokoMisfits for SGOTM12. The more the merrier. :D

What advanced techs our rival civs may have will be a very big question. Especially Stalin....

But I do not think nukes will be a major risk, at least early in the game. Even tactical nukes are hugely expensive.

Even if Stalin has Fission, he may have to go through the entire Technology tree to Rocketry to use it for Tactical Nukes or ICBMs.

Let's not discuss SGOTM-12 too much before the Team Threads have been started. This (SGOTM-11 Team thread) is now a public thread for all Teams.

It seems i've worked out all the issues with STEAM and the HOF mod and Window 7, so i signed up. I may actually be able to contribute and play a turnset or two!

:goodjob: and interesting game. I'll have enough time to lurk the next one but can't play and it looks like the team is already large enough.
