SGOTM 12 - Fifth Element

OK, it would be a waste to not let you finish your set.

Beestar, are you ready for next one? I think 6 days for every double set are fine, but for a reason or another this one is taking 12 days... hopefully.

In the meantime can we decide our next cities placement? also the iceball.

Looks great. Don't forget to hook up the stone just in time to begin Oxford.

There are a few really nice food-heavy sites on the islands, which we should settle soon. But there's a lot to be said for some of those Chinese cities too! yummm, Chinese cities.

We do want to settle that iceball, and get rid of Rheims before DeGaulle gets longbows.

I missed that the quarry was not done. The worker on the gems there can finish it in time for Oxford.

City Placement

Iceball:
-Should be somewhere where it will be stuck at size 1.
-Should have no fallout in its BFC, and best none in 3rd ring too.
-Should take up as little space as possible, if we want to fit in more "iceballs" for the other civs later.
Marked my prefered location. IF all goes wrong and De Gaulle refuses to take it, then at least we get iron for mining.inc.

Homeland cities:
I've marked four sites that I think are worth settling. The pig/sugar one is well suited for production, with pigs, 2x sugar, five hills and a grass workshop. The two cottage sites can run lots of cottages easily. The filler at the dye is probably not worth settling until we get mining.

Island cities:
The largeish island with two marked sites is probably where we want to go first. Those sites are great (fish, clam, copper, corn)+(fish, sheep, pig)
Then there is the 1 tile island with two seafoods.
And the tip of our continent for copper+fish as a filler.

Large island:
We cannot put more than two cities per landmass, due to colonial maintenance, so the large island to the SE needs to be explored better.
We should get the metals though.

Ignore the markers on the last two screenies, they are just hovers I didn't remove before pressing print screen.

I think we want that fish, clam, copper, corn site first, and a second island one too. Those will boost our trade commerce nicely.

Good choice the iceball.

We already discussed the mainland cities and we agree surely on the banana site which has to be the first one.
Then the second with pigs/sugar. I'd prefer the one i proposed, but if you insist...

The one you marked as city 1 can wait, it's in our territory.

I like the one on the southern tip of the small island (the one already unfogged)

Not much the one on the big island. If we go for 2 cities max on a landmass, we better place it 2S: it can gain iron in 4th borders and gains immediately spices and horses.

Agree, the marking was just where the mouse was when i made the ss, not where I want a city. Good idea to get the iron in the 4th ring, especially if there are more mining.inc. sources in the fog.

I think for settling priority:

1. Iceball
2. The best island city, fish+clam+copper+corn on the only fogged tile.
3. The other city on that island
4. 2x banana site
5. Pig+sugar
6. Rice closest to core
7. Rest of the islands and the filler city with dye, maybe filler cities north too.

Some problems here.
First, we need to send a worker to scrub the site, for any city. If on our landmass better road first, to speed the settler.

This is particularly true for the islands. If our chosen sites are fallouted, we need to scrub them first. In any case, it's a pretty long trip, and I'm thinking to some creative ways to do so...
Maybe a worker/settler for the closer site, then a worker for the 2nd and an archer for the first, finally archer+settler for the 2nd.

But let's see the priorities.
We lack health and banana give +1.
Same for sheeps.

So, i'd change your proposed order:

1 (1). Iceball
2 (4). 2x banana site
3 (3). The Sheep city, on the closest island. (The other city on that island)
4 (5). Pig+sugar
5 (n). The one in the far island, near spices
6 (2). The best island city, fish+clam+copper+corn on the only fogged tile.

then i don't care, we can see later
5 and 6 can interchange, not a problem. What i really care are 1, 2 and 3.

Ok, we can see to that later. But of course, we need to ship a worker first to clear FO. No need to put archers out early though, there are no barbarians, so the shipments should be mostly workers early on.
We already got bananas for health (at Orleans).
Don't underestimate the benefit of two island cities first. All our cities will get better trade routes (minus the ones with trade routes to India)

I'm not thinking to the archer for protection, but mostly for MP.
Just because i'm thinking to 1 galley, if we build 2 we can delay the archers.

i forgot the banana in Orleans  we "just" need to improve them... not so easy at present.

so, my preferred site after the iceball becomes the sheeps.

Stop when GP pops.

I'll play tomorrow night.

Troops:

Bring in the phant from Paris to help. And phant+axe from Rheims.
Split stack and Attack!!
Kick his butt and then take his money.

Tech:

Printing press and leave at 0%

Cities:

Yarslav: Courthouse (whip when possible)
Novogorod: University (whip in 4) ->Courthouse
CI: University (whip) -> Mace -> Mace -> Mace
Moscow: Worker -> Tao Monastary ->Aqua duct-> Oxford
StP: University->Confu Mission x2 ->Settler (iceball)
Rostov: University (Whip in 4) -> Courthouse
Rheims: Granary (25) Whip when possible->Courthouse
Paris : Courthouse -> Whip when possible
Orleans: University (Whip in 4) -> Courthouse

Workers:

Novo workers cottage two grasslands then convert farms
Keep one worker in Rostov and send the others to Rheims
Rheims- Corn, gems, cottages
Orleans - bananas
Send Moscow worker to Rostov

Trades:

None are promising right now. Stop and consult if a trade is sensible.

Civics:

No Changes

City Micro:

Moscow: Fire engineer after worker, work coast

CI: MAx Hammers (mine and plains cottage)

It will be done on day 10 (tomorrow).

Good plan.

One important note
Make sure to get the stone quarry completed within the next four turns. I didn't realize it was not complete yet, but obviously it needs to be.

Good luck!

Edit:
One more thing to consider.
Once we wipe out the stack, we might be in good shape to deal with the reinforcements he is sending. If we are, we should not take peace immediately, but rather kill them as well. Killing units in our own territory is a great way to build GG points, and if we can somehow pop two more generals before steel, then we will be able to crank out CR3 Cannons, which would be awesome.

Only if you have the GWall. But winning on attacking will gain more points than on defending, this is sure. BTW, is the GW already gone? It's really cheap with stone

another shiny bright thing...

And Moai? In Moscow, i think. We planned to build OU there, WS in StPete and IW in Novo (provided i remember correctly the name of the only city which can have a Levee)
I do not see more useful NW for now, maybe Shakespeare in the IW city. We have also cheap theaters.

We have to decide the NE, i think in a food rich city. Rostov maybe?

Only if you have the GWall.
I am not entirely sure, but as I understand, you always get +100% GG points for combat in your own territory. And the GWall adds another 100% like it was pacifism+NEpic for GPPs.

Moai: I'd take a city with more coast tiles than Moscow. How about Paris? It has tons of coast tiles.

IW: Rostov. It has to be, since it's main purpose is to pop a GE. We discussed whether to add NEpic, and risk popping a GArtist. But after the GE, we could certainly turn it into a proper GP farm. Otherwise, we might be able to actually found a proper NEpic/NPark city on the islands. That would be a great way to spam GPs for lategame golden ages.

As for Novo, it is obviously a great production site for lategame (bulldoze towns for workshops), but I think it is bad for IW for three reasons:
1. It is very hammer poor before levee, so it will take ages to build the IW.
2. It will have a hard time running four engineers with its food.
3. It has a lot of cottages to grow rather than run engineers.

Gonna play in 2 or 3 hours. I will be sure the quarry is done. Let me know if there is anything else before then.

Yes, actually!
One more thing. Let's build a forge in Rostov after the uni, rather than courthouse. This is so we can begin accumulating GE points earlier.
Otherwise, good to go.

Guys, bad news.

I got some problem here, so i'll be away from my PC for a month or so.

I will try to watch the forum and to contribute, but i can't knoe for sure.

I'll be back in full shape around the half of December.

I think that Fluro can take in charge the Team for those weeks.

Good luck and try to keep the ball rolling. The delay was a real bless, see this.
