SGOTM 12 - Xteam

Yes, you are right, but the fort will still help because we can stage then stage the attack on Newcastle and Coventry from the fort and that means that we need fewer galleons/transport at Guangzhou.

I do, however spot another complication. We can't reach Warwick via the sea without open borders with Mao or alternatively declaring war on him. So maybe we should work on our relations with him? Perhaps build a last refuge for him and get the +1 for liberating a city :D.

EDIT: Shouldn't we be hiring merchants in Yekat? We may need another trade mission.

And what shall we name this one? :mischief:

Agreed.

...We have 3 galleons sitting idle in York. ...
 I missed those; I'll have them set sail right away, thanks!

The workers on the Khabarovsk island have not been pulled back. Why? We need them badly to improve the are around London/York where there are no workers at all.
One Galleon just got there, and will pick up 3 Worker at start of next turn. I'll have one of the Galleons from York pick up another boat load.

Shanghai is neglected and is starving without reason.
Hmmm... I was expecting the Artists to be reassigned when it came out of Anarchy. Guess that only happens if the city governor is turned on. I'll fix this, and check other cities as they come out of anarchy.

Let me explain the attack plan once more:

  1. Move our tanks to Nottingham and York. These will be staging points for an attack over land. NO single move units here.
  2. Guangzhou and the fort NW of Nottingham are staging points for our naval attack force. All galleons, infantry and cannons should move here.
  3. Build a fort NW of Nottingham to allow our galleons to pass to Guangzhou.
  4. IMMEDIATELY start moving infantry back from Hastings via York, Nottingham ending in Guangzhou. EDIT: 2/3 of these forces go to the fort NW of Nottingham.
Thanks, this helps quite a bit!

OK, I'll add the Fort NW of Nottingham to Worker tasks!

Do we need sea access to Warwick? Tanks from Canterbury & Oxford could get there fairly quick.

As we didn't get Military Science from Mao, what is the plan for our three GGenerals? Do we need a Super Medic? IIRC, our brst healer is the Horse Archer with Medic II.

 Yekat had all Merchants and 1 Engineer when the turnset started, not sure why it changed, I didn't move them. It must have just happened, because I don't see any chance of a GS being generated. I'll change them back, and guess I'll go through each city before hitting the turn button.

Traveled back home today from visiting Virginia for the Holidays. It going on 9 PM here, and old guys like me :old: need their sleep, so I'll postpone playing again until tomorrow morning, about 10 - 12 hours from this post.

Griff, if you have adjusted the culture slider back and forth at some point the city governors may have done all sorts of things becuse citizens may have gone angry and then back again to whatever work the governor decides.

The galleons in York are not a problem when you build the fort, just make sure you remember to move them to Nottingham with some infantry inside. The galleon dropping off workers from the K-island could also go to the fort afterwards. We need at least 6 galleons there. And remember to start moving infantry from Hastings to Nottingham and tanks in the other direction. I suggest we use 2 GG's to attach to tanks so that we get a few very highly promoted units. Perhaps attach to two groups of 4 5 XP tanks to get them all to 10XP and CR3. Then we have 4 CR3 tanks in each of the tank armies in Nottingham and York.

I like this plan a lot...CR3 Tanks ! ! !

Sounds like we're ready to continue to roll along.

Good Luck Griff.

Please remember that you should apply each GG to a distinct group of 4 Tanks. If there are more than the four, the game decides which units to give point to. Made this mistake the other night in testing a game and messed up my plans.

@Fred - yes, I adjusted culture up to 20% when Plastics was discovered, so that must have been what caused it.

OK, I'll start playing in a few minutes. I will use two of the GGenerals on Tank groups as Fred suggested, and keep the third GGeneral and the GScientist in reserve for now.

Time for a Haka...

I played a couple of turns, and suddenly Roosevelt has 520 Gold available for trade (Maybe he got some failure gold?). He'll give us the 520 Gold, his World Map, and Military Tradition for Electricity (see attached screen shot). Do we want to make this trade?

Do we want to make this trade?
I do not think so. Military Tradition gives us Cossacks and we are now using Tanks.

Military Science would allow us to build Military Academy's, that would be helpful.

edit - Electricity leads to Industrialism and Tanks, although Roosie doesn't have oil, does he? I still wouldn't do it.

OK, I'll continue on, two more turns to complete Radio, and I'll stop and post an interim save. Military Tradition would allow us to build West Point in Yaro.
I thought we decided that West Point was not worth it for us to build? :hmm:

West Point is not necessary IMO.

I would not do that trade.

I have played up through the completion of Radio, and we have just started Computers. Radio gives us the chance to build Cristo Redendor and the Eiffel Tower somewhere if we're interested. Rheims has just started building Rock 'n Roll. 7 more turns to complete SoL in Novgorod.

The two groups of 4 CR III tanks have been created, using the GGenerals that were in Rheims & Yaro. We still have 1 GGeneral & 1 GScientist stationed in Moscow. One Tank Group has been loaded onto a Transport, which is sailing for York with a Battleship escort. The second Tank group (from Yaro) is moving toward Nottingham.

The Fort has been build NW of Nottingham, and Infantry, Cannons & Galleons are in the process of being stationed there. Still have a few Frigates & Galleons sailing toward Guangzhou.

FWIW, Roosevelt will now trade both Military Science & Military Tradition for Electricity (see attached screen shot).

Interim save attached (not uploaded). I could play some more tonight or tomorrow morning, or I can upload the save and punt the ball to the next man.

Turn set notes...

Looks like we are making good progress with the war preparations :goodjob:

I tried to get an overview of the battlefield:

Defenders:

Oxford 3 RC
Canterbury 8 RC, 2 Can, 1 Cur
Warwick 4 RC
Coventry 3 RC
Newcastle 4 RC

We have:

Tanks 24
Infantry 33
Cannons 10
Galleons 14
Transports 1

My suggestion for the armies:

Red Rally Point -> Canterbury: 18 tanks, 6 of them CR3
Red Rally Point -> Oxford: 6 tanks, 2 of them CR3
Yellow/White Rally Point -> Newcastle: 11 Infantry, 4 cannons, 5 Galleons
Yellow/White Rally Point -> Coventry: 9 Infantry, 3 cannons, 4 Galleons
Green Rally Point -> Warwick: 10 Infantry, 3 cannons, 3 Galleons, 1 transport

Try to spread the veteran units evenly among the infantry groups. Note that the forces required for the Newcastle and Coventry can be divided between the white and yellow rally points depending on the availability of galleons.

I think our target should be to set this up within the next 6-8 turns. When our units are in place they can move into striking range on the turn of the DOW so the war need only take 1 turn. Any units not yet built coming out of Paris and Yaroslavl can go to the border south of Rheims preparing to attack Liverpool. Here we probably need 2 cannons and 5 tanks. In order to free up all the infantry listed in the plan we must replace infantry MP's in Chinese cities with old units (swords, axes, HA's).

EDIT: Note that we can open borders with Mao again!

Very nice plan Fred. :hatsoff:

Don't forget to bring the Frigates and Destroyers to bomb down defenses and protect our galleons on the turn of war. Also remember the airships! :)

How fast will culture from his new capital Leeds spread? There is one tundra tile with fallout N-N-NW of Leeds which we might want to scrub asap to avoid having to declare again later!?

Haven't looked at the save yet, but will we have the assets to take out Liverpool too? We can raze that city.

Good Luck Griff.
