SGOTM 12 - Xteam

Nice job with the test save leif :goodjob:

I still can't figure out how you evil mapmakers do this without spending hours working on it... :crazyeye:

Good luck Xteam - I'll be lurking and cheering for my former team.

:wavey: Nice of you to stop in and say hello. :)

Maybe you should do a haka for us, for luck?

Have you tried playing Civ5? I bought the game a few days ago and I must say that I can't recommend it to anyone.
Yes, I think Firaxis has some work to do on it yet. It is quite different and finding the info I think we're used to seeing readily in Civ4 seems harder to me. I expect there will be a patches forthcoming, much as there were with Civ4. Let's hope. :)

I think Civ4 will be around for a while... :mischief:

Did one quick test with the latest test save from leif

AI built Oracle at T122 - 175AD, we could have done it (CS-sling) no later than T94 - 550BC, researching all techs, no trading.

Didn't focus on peace negotiations, but it was easy with techs, the AI was slow researching, once alpha was in, low price techs was enough for the other AI.

Do you think it is possible from where we are now, from turn 52?

Definitely. :)
I replayed up till T52 the best I could... :mischief:
I finished the granary and once the library was build I ran 2 scientist, but did not work the second gold, off course I got the academy earlier, but that was not many turns before CoL, I think research would have been faster working both gold all the time.
I whipped a settler and a worker (I think :hmm:) somewhere in between, and chopped one forest for Oracle.

I just did a quick replay of some intermediate save and made peace with Ghandi once Math was in. :)

This sounds good. The Oracle seems worth the risk. Do we need to do more testing? Should we detour to Math to get peace and be able to make up some of those beakers by trading with G for religious tech(s) leading to the Oracle?

Getting back to a turn plan: Would ask Z to look carefully at worker moves. Hate wasting a forest, but not sure that chopping the forest before settling (as Hawk suggests) is worth waiting two turns, if during those two turns we could be using the second city to work a mined gold hill while building another worker.

Sounds promising.

Yes it does.
You forgot the horses in the test save, and when I found out I added them in WB, but just now I see that I did not get the extra hammer in Moscow, that might explain why I couldn't quite keep up with Griff when replaying his turns. :crazyeye:

You need Math for the CS sling so it's no detour.

Good point! :goodjob:
I think the second gold mine could be done exactly the same turns as we found our 2nd city.

Sorry, I'm not used to playing BTS. Math our next tech then to get both peace (and techs) and max from chops?

Yes, and not chopping the forest also allows a road to be built between the two cities faster, which will add an additional 2gpt.

We don't need the road now, the trade route will be established as soon as the border pops. :)

I'll do another test tomorrow morning and then I'll post a new draft of my plan.
Maybe MP will have done some testing by then.. :mischief:

After Turn Set Report

Turn 52 (1920 BC) [29-Sep-2010 18:32:02]

Player Comment Gandhi still won't go for Peace, War Weariness down to 3.

@Griff: Did you try and offer Ghandi AH + Bronze for peace? I don't think I can do the offer without actually playing the game, if he accepts I can't undo it. :crazyeye:

Just loaded the save and tried "Let's bury the hatchet. What is the price for peace?" and he answers that "There's no way such a deal is possible." Doesn't look like he'll budge?

But, when you are planning, it is certainly worth trying, no? :please:

OK - did one more test.

Ghandi started the Oracle in Bombay T86 and finished it T96  with at least 3 chops I think.
Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

As soon as our 2nd city was founded Ghandi (furious at -11) was ready for peace asking for our city but satisfied with AH :)
Traded for Mysticism and Polytheism (and Archery and Agriculture), researched Priesthood and CoL.
We would have finished Oracle at T87. :)

The AI do scrub, it takes them 3-4 turns, I didn't get consistent results. :crazyeye:

Research:
Writing – Math - CS-sling

City placing:
City 2 on forest SE of start.
City 3 NW of mainland cow

Build orders:
Moscow: Put current overflow into worker and then granary until we can whip worker, after granary -> library
City 2: Worker – Warrior (mp in Moscow) - Worker

Worker actions:
Both workers: Mine 2nd gold -> scrub and pasture 2nd cow -> scrub, farm and road rice if we get Agriculture from Ghandi
Worker 3 from Moscow will prepare for city 3.

Scouting:
Warrior will look a bit further north and then go SW towards France, Chariot will move towards the pigs.

Peace negociations:
Hope for peace trade with Ghandi after 2nd city is build.
