SGOTM 15 - Xteam

No worries undecided. It is just a game and I wish I had time to look in to the save when I got home. But I had to go coach soccer. That is why it took forever.

Also, there is no gurantee that Eliza wont dow Toku, just as easily and continue toward us.
She might have, but it was a truly clever idea that gave us a chance to survive, which is something I certainly haven' t been able to come up with.

I'll play a couple more turns but we should still do the 10-20 turn sets, so can MP or someone else pick it up around friday?

No can do - up to my neck in RL right now. I could come in for a turn set before the deadline if necessary I think, but next is not a good place for me. Leif, you should at least drop me down one.

The only thing that could possibly slow Lizzie down will be a huge stack of Cats, ready for the whip anyone? No better suggestions, I'm afraid...

Updated Roster:
Undecided - UP
Cactus Pete - On Deck
Mad Professor
Htadus
zamint3
- :high5:
The-Hawk - traveling
leif - suffering from a bout of RL.

edit - would like to have seen what Lizzie did if we had gifted Giza to Toku, may have to try it after we have finished. :)

I thought about the city gifting again and it has a bit of an downside in this particular case.
Genghis is at war with toku, which means that if we gift the city to toku, we only have a couple turns before genghis gets the city and our enemies can go through again.
We might be able to delay it way longer if we bribe genghis into peace with toku for 335 gold and then hope/ manipulate him into going to war with someone else (which would probably be us). Once he's at war with us, we won't switch to toku and our front on the east has enough time to get out a load of cats. Given that we have time for a bit of experimenting, i'd like to try this out if nobody has any problems with that.

Thanks CP. on time would have been better.

undecided, by all means, lets test it. Also if we can get our culture over the fort north of alexandria(?), Then our XB's will nearly match the strength of a rifle while defending. 6*(1+.25+.25+.25(5turn forti))=10.5. Trebs will be useless and free shots and combat/hill promotions will also be helpful.

maybe a new fort on a blocking hill within our culture?

Update:

I did play on, until T221.
We'll be broke next turn, ww is incredible high, even running all wealth in the empire.

I gifted Alex to Toku bringing him to pleased and it seems that eliza's stack heads in the opposite direction to attack from the west. I'm trying to get the caravel in the area to get a glimpse at it if it's still in the area. I'm also assuming that shaka marches around the map to the east to attack toku's new city.

Hatshe could have captured memphis last turn but decided to heal with a half-health pike and mace against a 0.3 strenght WE. We now have two badly damaged WE in the city so it can still fall, but we have a small stack near the city which should be able to get the city back.

We still hold babylon despite several counter-attacks. It came out of revolt this turn, but i think we have to abandon the city. Maybe whip it to the ground before leaving it, that hammy isn't to happy with it once he gets it back. We still have to get babylon back to get peace with hammy, question is if that really helps with the ww. I'd suspect that cyrus would give in pretty fast, given that he was bribed in but not sure. Might be best to make peace with hammy after whipping his city to the ground and then retreat to borsippa. I moved the stack from borsippa into babylonian territory to meet up with the garrison from bablyon to ease the collateral on cannon attacks and pillage some stuff on the way back. Previous pillage tries were all stopped by counterattacks.

We could steal CS from toku now, but this wouldn't really change our financial situation. I hoped that toku would get feud faster with two cities but he has other ideas, as the ETA just increased to 20 turns again.

So if anybody wants to play one last turn of this before we need a bail-out... this is your chance ;)

Don't know what we should do going forward. Play on to defeat or something else.

Wow. This is bad. Our only chance is to take DK and defend Babylon vigorusly. And hope to get peace with Babs. My opinion is in the spoiler read after deciding your mind. This game is lost and we all (should) know it. I will support any decision of the team but the truth is we can not stop Eliza from getting culture without finding a tech trading partner. For that we need to change religion. If we do that we disqualifiy even for the wooden spoon. Also we are running out of time.

Spoiler :

So I am for finishing it like a man and quit :D. But really we can fight to the death. Like totally. :king:,
Spoiler :
I am sorry I did not get enough sleep last night so I am full on goofy.

Concur with Htadus: Game is lost and will support any team decision at this point but not encouraging anyone to put in more time and effort unless very willingly.

Sent a PM to Alan and Neil asking what the best way to close out the game would be as a retirement. Will check back once I get an answer and then we can make a final decision.

Hi X-Team,

I wish to apologise, as I do believe that I made this game too difficult. The scenario was not very forgiving. It was certainly not my intention to make it so that several teams lost.

I sincerely hope it does not put you off SGOTM's.

If you wish to retire you can simply post your last save to the server and be done.

No need to apologize Neil, it was a challenge and we did not measure up on this occasion.

We'll get you next time. :)

From Alan in response to my PM:

Thanks for letting me know. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Just upload the last save. I'll mark it as retired at the end of the game, or if you prefer you can upload it and record a conquest defeat.

I second what leif said nealmeister. Good challenging game setup and am delighted to have played it.

You really made the culture game possible with just two city gifting to each neigbore and converting them to hindu. I regret not thinking of this. Toku loves gifted cities.

I for one learned how weak my single player game military forces compaired to the resident Mongers. So may be it is time for me to change to a Monger. :)

It was fun while going guys, sorry I did not have enough time to invest in this game. Just in case this game is my last SG, I want to thank the team members, current and past for good discusions and fellowship.

Hope you stay with us.

Hope you stay with us.

Sadly I do not see my time being freedup. Before this SG started, I PM'ed leif and ask if it is OK for me to join the team with limited time to commit. He was kind and ok'ed. Unfortunately I think had I not done that, he would have solicited another player who would have commited more time for the SG.

As for Toku. The fastest way to open borders with Toku is to gift him a city as soon as possible. In our case we would have infected it with hindu and gifted it to him. This would have led to open borders with him to infect his capital. Same with Babs and we would have had two trading partners and still head to AP. Or capture AP.

@ Neil: No hard feelings.... :mischief:

A very interesting map, can't wait to see how the others coped with it! :)

If Undecided could upload our last save, I think Alan might see clear to allow us to start reading other threads once I ask him to retire us from this game. :)

No apology needed. This was a very interesting scenario. Winning or losing does not make the SGOTM fun, its the challenge and the discussion. We had plenty of both, great learning experience. :goodjob:
