SGOTM 16 - Fifth Element

Sounds like you guys have it mapped out. Go get 'em!

Just this: are we sure that Native America or Arabia aren't better targets than China? Looking at the map it appears they have the most cities on the coast.

China is better because they have more land. With just SB's or Saladin's land we would struggle to get to the dom limit.

I agree with ZPV that tanks and inland invasion is better. We can airlift 15 tanks in 3 turns (Yes, we will need 5 airports for that). We can preproduce bombers until we research industrialism. It will be a fast and easy war. If we go with marines, they would take eternity to transport there, and to capture the inland cities.

Are we unable to plan a 1 turn invasion to get enough land?

I guess we want to avoid expensive things like tech to paratroopers and get nukes.

Ok, I'm playing a few turns now.

Obvious, we can't use marines for the inland cities. But Marines for the coastal (at least the East) and tanks for the rest. marines can be airlifted too and transports can arrive while we build marines. I suppose we're not interested in a Capitulation of China.

MI and Sushi Exec for the babyl cities, i suppose?

I've played: 2 turns.
Saladin built the Kremlin (expected) in Damascus.
Hammy has learned Railroad. That's not great news, because Machine Guns aren't easy to beat unit artillery or better, but I plan to declare this turn anyway.
Babylon has 2 rifles, a lbow, a catapult, and maybe a war elephant.

I'll declare war in the morning (this turn) unless someone tells me not to.

MI: yes. Sushi: not sure. I'll try and work out if it's worth it.

Marines: I still don't see what's better about them, than just reusing the tanks we captured the inland cities with. (Or, say, using ships to attack amphibiously with older units which we've already built.)

I'll declare war in the morning to fight with the sun in your back? great! (this turn) unless someone tells me not to.
After a couple cannons an MG will be dust. They defend first until they are stacked with infantry. Go ahead if you think you can get it easily.

I continue to be unhappy with the unhappiness :crazyeye: and unhealth of our citizens.

Can't open the save now, but go ahead with DoW. They don't really have time to mass upgrade Machine Guns. One or 2 can be killed easily.

It looks good.

Is see that you are into building massive amounts of wealth. I think that is the correct thing. A little unhealth we can live with. Have you been able to run 100% research?

I'm happy he teched railroad instead of AL. He has mostly riflemen that does not upgrade to machine guns.

I would probably have spread sid sushi to the islands as it will be very nice once we change to caste system which we will do in two turns.

There is also three mainland cities without sid sushi. I tried to spread to two of them on my last turn but both failed.

How is the fighting going?

I've played four more turns, and captured Babylon and Dur-K with few losses.
We've built Broadway and the Eiffel Tower, and now have learned Refrigeration and Combustion, and are one turn from Flight.
Next turn, I'll start running the culture slider at 10% (this will coincide with Oil unhealthiness kicking in). I don't think it's quite worth it this turn.
Thebes popped a Great Artist!

Hammy will talk, but not capitulate, so I plan to capture the southern island city and Nippur (whose cultural influence is less important than I'd imagined). If he still won't capitulate, I'll drop some units off near Akkad (the double holy city) and capture that.

Eiffel? Did we get CR before that, and have you switched to Caste+Pacifism?
One other thing: did you consider my proposal of going Industrialism before Mass Media? We would have more time to transfer tanks and capture Qin's cities, and probably still enough time to build UN in Thebes.

How is the culture going?

Well done.

Great with an extra great artist. Perhaps we can afford one artist to make a great work in china.

I will not be able to look at the save today as I'm not going home tonight. But I gues we also have two cristian chathedrals and the cristo redentor? Mass media for the next tech?

Guess taking two more cities from Hammurabi will make domination easier but diplomatic harder.

Yes - I just forgot to mention CR and the revolt. (They were two turns each in Thebes).

Industrialism before Mass Media? I'm not sure. It's probably worthwhile. It'll depend on happiness - if we can capitulate Hammy by then, then definitely.

Culture is faster than projected. I think we'll be able to get away with 8 or 9 culture bombs, or use 10 if we are able to push the win date up a few turns.

@Folket:
We have some christian temples, but neither legendary city has had time to build a cathedral yet - Orleans has been building Rock'N'Roll, and Gergovia a Salon and Supermarket. They'll be built soon, though.
