SGOTM 16 - Fifth Element

3, My priority is as fast medicine as possible while killing egypt and killing the native american stack. i.e. building a lot of wealth while spreading MI.

1. I would like you to decide if we need to upgrade the warrior to a machine gun. Other then that I think 4 cannons, 4 muskets, 1 LB and 1 pikeman will take care of it. most of teh units are already started. I will change the knight in Apache to a musket. If I feel threatened I will upgrade a warrior to a machine gun.

If he drops outside Paris I will still reach it with all units I built/moved.

2. I will heal the half that are next to the great general while the others move towards the first city. Next turn I will bombard defenses down to 0 and attack with full strengh musketmen. I will probably loose 1-2. The "healed" stack will now move down to the city. I will let teh other stakc heal for a turn while loading the most healed cannons on the galleon.

Next turn I will unload the cannons outside teh last mainland city while moving muskets there and loading 4 muskets on the galleon. Turn after that I will capture the last two cities.

Plunder is a good idea.

4. I'm uncertain as to what you are refering to.

Yes, upgrade the warrior. It doesn't hurt as much if we can get some pillage or capture gold this turn.

So something like:
Paris: LB. I'd prefer a musket here too, but it's your choice, and LBs are cheap.
Tours: Musket-Musket or Musket-Frigate
Orleans: Pike
Rheims: Frigate, please. (and make sure it only takes 1 turn)
Lyons: Musket
Apache: Musket

I'm confident you have the egyptian war in hand. Do what you like there. I didn't spot the muskets in Pi-Ramesses.

4: At the moment, there's just remembering that Gergovia needs to pop its GP.
Other things might come up later.

Don't forget to tarde for Fur with Qin.
Paris should build Musket instead, it is ready in 1 turn. They have no counter unit for Muskets, and they are much better on offense. Since both Tours and Paris is on flatland, Musket is better even on defense.

If you are a bit overwhelmed, it is nice to have the priorities layed out. Assigning cities in this order is the best way to manage cities.

The way I see it:
1. Kill SB's stack
2. Spread MI with current executives
3. Research Medicine ASAP
4. Build MI executives
5. Whip factories and Coal plants
6. Transport military police to undefended sushi cities
7. Found filler cities
8. Spread Hinduism

Depending on the number of units SB brought, we might need to sit back and defend for 1 turn. 85% culutre defense takes long to bombard, so we can build more units until then. If they have many units (>10), waiting one turn before cannon attack to gather more troops who can finish them off is a good idea.

YES to upgrading the warrior. Pillaging those cottages is a very good idea. If you have money for only 1 spreading, then it should be Gergovia. That city needs infra very badly.

EDIT: New cities can start wihpping granaries.

All good points. I need to see if I can finish Egypt in some number of turns and still plunder enough. I guess priority should be to plunder as spreading MI is more important then three small cities that we will get anyway.

I think it will be easy to plunder in Egypt lands as well as defeating him in four turns.

Whip factories in Marsellies, Uzbek, Chartres. Whip granary in Pointiers.

Whip factory in Riems in two turns. Why do we need a frigate here?

Thebes will finish factory this turn and finish coal plant next turn.

Whip factories in Bibracte, Tolosa next turn.

After finishing factories I will start and soon whip coal plants as well.

The Frigate is optional, but it would be nice to destroy SB's fleet.

Good luck!

Overall good plan. I guess that ZPV wants Frigate in Rheims to destroy the ships, so SB can't bring more units. I think that it is more important than a factory.

I don't really care about Egypt, do it efficiently. 10 turns is just as good as 4 turns. Make sure we don't need to bring more units there, what we have should be enough. If needed, stop to heal for a turn.

One more thing, I tend to forget things that don't jump out. Eg. a unit will become active, so you won't forget to move it. A city will turn up when you go through the cities before ending the turn.

What doesn't pop up is:
- specialists. Make sure Gergovia has 4 specs hired.
- Check F4 screen techs and resources tab every turn for trades. (Fur trade missing from PPP!)
- Warrior upgrade

I hope you can play soon, green light from me. Good luck!

I take that as two green lights. Unless someone says that I should not play I will play in a few hours.

PPP until I have medicine.

Cities:
Tours upgrade warrior to a machine gun and finish the half built musket. Unless ZPV is confident that warrior and musket will prevent a amphibious assault. In that case I will use money to spread mining inc instead. Will whip the musket so that the overflow will allow us to build a second musket fast as well.

Paris builds a machine gun or a LB. Have two workers build a railroad on the corn.

Whip factories in Marsellies, Uzbek, Chartres. Whip granary in Pointiers.

Build frigate in Riems, then a factory.

Thebes will finish factory this turn and finish coal plant next turn.

Whip factories in Bibracte, Tolosa next turn.

After finishing factories I will start and soon whip coal plants as well.

I will make sure to be building on five executives every turn if possible.

War:
The four cannons in Apache will move east. they should be instrumental in decimating the invasion force.

In the south Harappan will fall this turn. In three turns Akhetaten will fall. In four turns Heraconpolis will fall to a amphibious invasion. I could kill Heraconpolis in three turns but but it will not be as safe for our galleon. If we loose it, that would delay the war victory.

I have looked at it and it seems that I may do better by delaying the conquest of Harappan and Akhetaten 1 turn.

Heraconpolis only have 1 lb as defence. I think it is best to take it with muskets amphibiously as if we don't we will loose our galleon to those caravels.

New cities:
One settler in Avignon to settle north of Rouen.
Will buuild wealth to spead up medicin instead of creating more cities.

Civics, GPP:
Rum 4 artists/marchants in Gergovia to make sure it gets the next GP.

Diplo:
Trade for marble, fur and mining inc resources. (no need to trade for sushi as we can't before we get it)

Research:
Keep slider low enough to have enough money for MI spread. One turn as low as possible to have money either for spreading MI and upgrades or research next turn.
Research Biology and medicine. When I get medicine I will start rifling and save.

workers:
Workers will prioritize to connect all cities with railroads. Then mines and workshops. Possibly farms somewhere.

I have played part of the first turn now. After plundering everything I manage to get 539 gold in total. an upgrade on 350 gold will still slow down MI spread. Should I allow this or should I upgrade to maceman. If they do not do a amphibious assault maceman can help with killing the stack.

I'm eating lunch now. Hopefully I will get some feedback before I continue or I will go ahead and upgrade to machine gun and slow MI some.

Machine gun anyway. Yes, it'll be some slowing down, but there will still be some spread.

Finished the turn. Unexpected turn of sitting bulls fleet. They are now travelling north along the coast, towards the insignificant city of Poitiers.

ZPV, yes, I did upgrade to machine gun. Now I'm stuck deciding if I want to risk two worker to get a railroad up to Pointers. I'm leaning towards no. And then build the railroad needed to reach his army once he has landed. I can probably get a few muskets into Pointers this turn anyhow.

I'm also hiring scientists in random cities that have choice between 4 hammer workshops building wealth or 6 beaker scientists. I hope that is fine.

Second turn.
Sitting bull has still not landed. Is he going for Toulouse now?

I have some problem with spreading MI and keeping up with research. I need to build less factories I guess.

Could you post a save? We can't really offer any advice without that. Or just finidh as you see fit, and report when ready.

4 hammer workshop on wealth vs scientist: fine as long as the city doesn't have factory + coal plant.

Egypt has been destroyed. I think I lost a total of 1 musket and 1 cannon. But my memory might be faulty.

I was not planing on any tech trades. But now I can get 160 gold for liberalism to china. I think it is a decent trade. I will have a small pause and see if anyone voice an opinion. Otherwise I will go on without trade.

Sitting Bull has not landed. I killed two of his caravels this turn.

I also sank a Chinese galleon.

Tough to tell without save, but only sell lib if everybody else has it.

Usually I wouldn't trade it for just 160 gold, lib is not a small tech like Theology.

EDIT: I see you posted a save. I'll look at it..

Well, sitting bull does not have it. But it is nice to have free money.

I would also like to change espionage to Arabia once we can see Babylonian research.

I would wait at least one more turn. He can't really trade the gold away, so unless he starts deficit research, the money won't disappear until next turn, and we will be able to get more money.

If he spends the money, then no problem, 160 gold really isn't that much. We can use lib later when we trade for democracy. Good job on Ram war!

Chartres could build Frigates in case SB sails to the other side.

EDIT: EP on Arabia: I wouldn't change just yet.
