SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Green from me. Sorry been pretty busy and RL is getting the best of me at the moment so can't do any nit picking (or much at least! )

-Cottage being worked by production; work an engineer instead and let commerce work the cottage. Commerce is working an unimproved floodplain at the moment.

-Trades: Give MC and Currency for Monarchy and gold. Also open borders with Rams. Even with a -1 for you refused to stop trading, we should be able to get him to friendly fairly easily. Giving Rams MC will also give him trade bait for peace.

-Humbaba: Perhaps he is just an invisible unit that is locked in. A trick maybe by the map maker to make us want to rip our hair out due to frustration after not finding him. (Those units that are invisible to most units perhaps?) Nuking this city to oblivion is clearly the way forward. I have a feeling the city will have a bomb shelter as well  Meaning it'll take roughly 6 nukes/tacticals to do the job!

-Moai: Zhou is clearly the better city. 2 fish screams for 5 specialists. Looking at the map now, this game would have been pretty good if we went down the Mids route as well :) Although it's good we didn't because of the hammer burden.

- :( re Taoism

-Production: Tireme-Harbour.

-Tech path, no longer a rush for CoL anymore

-Wonders: We should really try to build MoM in production as soon as calendar is available.

-General game plan: This may sound crazy, but what if we went on an early rampage after Astro and we vassaled 2-3 AI's on the other continent pretty quickly and set them to research what we want? Ie, we could perhaps force them to research a tech so they advance to the next era to get the research multipliers. We could get 3 techs of our choice for 1 (and one or two other techs of choice from the free AI)!! I think that would be much much more powerful than tech trading AND if we ran Merc, with Vassals, we would still get the foreign TR's. :) Vassals would be great, It will mean that we won't be too far from a domination or conquest one of our VC's right from the bat and then diplomatic will also be in hand. :) Also, Merc has great synergy with SoL as well which we should build. If we vassal, we can prevent the AI from researching democracy so we would not need to switch over to Emancipation. :) Lots of benefits from the get go! Only one disadvantage that I can note which is we would have some trouble with AIs that go towards cultural VC but we can fix that by making sure to not vassal those AI. :)

OK - Brennus is asking us to join the war against Ramesses. Based on our PPP, I am going to agree to this demand, but we will lose the TR income from Rammy (about 4 commerce at this point). Anyone want to (quickly) object to a fake war with Ramesses?

PS - Once I get at least one OK, I can tell you if we got a GS or GPro. :)

I would like to object.
It'll gain us nothing and it is far too easy to get Brennus to friendly so we shouldn't worry about that. Rather, let's optimise commerce.

OK - I will pause here for more discussion. I cannot save the game right now since the dialog screen with Brennus is open, but I will let the game running on my other computer.

Massive x-post. :)

OK - It seems like we have a consensus: NO Fake War.

Edit: Oh no. Benginal. Are you changing your mind? Most of the chariots are on MP duties in our new cities.

It's alright. We're all online anyway, :-).

Yes to war
1) Lose the trade route income
2) Probably alienate Ramesses forever
3) Probably get on Brennus's good side forever
4) Possible poach a city if Brennus inefficiently attacks leaving just one wounded archer
5) Can unlock the HE with a chariot attack

No to war
Pretty much the opposite of above

I'm not really convinced one is better than the other. I suppose if we have no chariots to spare then we lose reasons 4 and 5 and I say no to war. If on the other hand, we do have units to spare, I say yes to war.

I'm not really sold either way, so if others have a strong preference we should do that.

ALSO: WHAT WAS OUR G-PERSON?

And FWIW, I don't think it is worth joining this war just to poach cities. Diplo would be the only reason for joining at this point, and there are still techs we can get from Ramesses.

Edit:

ALSO: WHAT WAS OUR G-PERSON?

I can't tell until I answer Brennus' question. :)

I buy that.

OK - It seems like we have an agreement: NO WAR, fake or otherwise (this time, really).

I will be back in a minute with the answer to the GP question.

Edit:

We got a GS!!!

And Brennus will trade Math!

Bear in mind, the -1 diplo is nothing in comparison because we have lots of diplo to milk out of Brennus. Heck, we could even declare war on him, and once we've made peace, he will still be pleased with us

OK - BUFFY lied about Math(s). It must have assumed Brennus was at Friendly, because the refusal to join the war dropped him down to Pleased, and now he won't trade Math.
