  • Turn 0 not yet played!
 
Setup
  • the mod is a big pain to set up right, but if you're running civ4 via steam then you need to set mod = Mods\BUFFY-3.19.003 in your config file and then run civ4 as an administrator via a shortcut.
  • try to load the current BOTM from the root game of the month forum to see if the mod works right; you should be able to load the mod and the save without any errors.
  • other teams OPs for SGOTM17 suggest seting your ini files so that autosave is set to every turn. (that is, set MaxAutoSaves = 50 and AutoSaveInterval = 1 in the .ini file) I think this because the BUFFY mod has some problems with crashing (I had a crash that actually shut down my laptop somehow when trying out the mod in BGOTM68 :eek:) and we don't want to replay turns since they're kinda a big production.
  • don't read (and especially don't post in) other teams threads.
  • No reloads from a previous point, ever! you know who I'm talkign to here!
  • piost in this thread as much as you possibly can.

  • raze Dr. Evil's lair, which is apparently impenetrable (maybe requires paratroopers? or maybe it just has some kinda uberdefender? idk.)
  • somehow recapture our Swinger's Pad, which has The Mids.
  • Swinger's Pad is legendary without using any great artists (but apparently spies are OK).
  • win the game via spaceship, UN, or culture. apparently other AIs start out with advanced techs (similar to how we have fusion), so this may make a spaceship victory very hard if the game goes on that long. also, presumably Dr. Evil has fission and maybe even the manhatten project since the OP of the maintenance thread mentions that we're toast if he ever reveals uranium.

Playing Turns:
  • the "turn guy" is in charge playing a set of turns. we rotate to the next guy on the list every time we stop.
  • before turnguy plays them though, we all gripe and argue about how terrible the last guy who played did and how the game is now unwinnable, and also try to come to a consensus about how best to play the next set of turns. post your plans with strength and great honour. any weakness or uncertainty in your tone betrays a flaw in your plan. only the most confident will lead us to victory.
  • turnguy should try to play according to the plan. try to check every city every turn.
  • if anything out of the ordinary happens, STOP PLAYING TURNS AND POST ABOUT IT!! from what I can tell, teams play sessions tend to be very short, maybe a few turns at most (slightly longer during the explore phase, slightly longer when the game is in wrapup phase).
  • when playing the turns, take LOTS of screenshots, since not everyone on our team will actually be on the turnlist. also, use alt-s to put little reminder notes on the map about stuff, e.g. where barb animals are, where scouts were sighted, etc etc etc. use alt-m to set reminders.

also i managed to set up BUFFY real easy and loaded some save successfully despite using steam. just run the installer, copy/create a new desktop shortcut and add mod=" BUFFY-3.19.003" to the path. the space after the opening double quote seems to be necessary. also i didnt run as administrator? but i have UAC disabled so that might be all you need.

Yeah, same as johns. Still have classes until next week but after then I can try out the mod and make sure everything works and then try out some turns. But that isn't what this game is about anyway, who takes the turns is of no importance. What matters is that we come together to end Dr. Evil's... evil... once and for all.
 
i still haven't won an emperor game yet. looking forward to ruining this game for everyone. chears! ;)
 
i can go fifth, though i'll probably have to do most of my turn stuff on the weekend
 
i wish the saves were out so we had something to talk about already.
 
so you'll probably end up saving and quitting several times within your set of turns right? if you're doing ~10 turns and you have to stop and talk about it every so often, that's gonna take a while

obviously i'm not talking about reloading from prior saves here geezle pete:sad:
