SGOTM 18 - BadCiv

He's the best techer among the AI crew. Though, if he turns out to be on the other side of the world from us then stealing from him will be really expensive & time consuming

hmmm i was thinking mansa actually, so we could steal techs

do you think goldmember is a possibility if mansa is hard to steal from for whatever reason? i don't know teching/espionage rules on minor civs, but i think he is gonna be pulling in the most commerce through a good part of the game

well, the way i figure is that mansa is gonna be the tech leader unless he get's straight up ed in a war. him and gandhi are gonna found the starting religions guaranteed, and so hopefully we'll be able to get the shared religion discount. we don't have to commit to him forever; we can always switch off after a big tech steal if we need to. goldmember is also a good idea. he's apparently financial and has the GLH, and we dont have to worry about failed missions souring our relations. however I don't think he'll be able to keep up in tech for very long...

what do ppl think with respect to moving on the marble or settling on the river desert for our next move? right now I'm inclined towards moving on the marble...

I'd be fine with moving towards the marble. There might be something hidden, but that means the quarry was a red herring.

I vote marble first, but prolly followed by a move back to desert river unless there's somehting sick on the other side of the hills

ok. the other side of the hill actually looks pretty good IMHO, other than the trolly mountains:

rundown between the two spots:

marble hill:
1.) 3h city tile
2.) 8 cottageable spots (maybe 9? can you improve a desert river spot like you can a tundra river spot?)
3.) a 1f 2h tile, which will be useful for speeding up TGW I think
4.) 7-8 dead tiles

desert river:
1.) 1h city tile
2.) 7 cottagable spots
3.) +4 food but -2 health
4.) 6 dead tiles, but won't have the food to ever work all 4 plains hills

IMO other than the city center tile, the two spots are comparable enough that its not worth the turn to move back. we'd have to move our capital either way; might as well settle here and take the accellerated start. our third option would be to keep roaming, but that puts us away from that gold mine...

didnt we move the warrior already?

One of you guys already did. Then you moved the settler from what appears to be an original start save.

Please get both those moves the same in your save (either move the settler to same position in the one, or move the warrior to same position in the other), and play ONLY from that save.

Note, for a single turn, you should only have ONE person playing the save. That person may upload after each click, but the only purpose of doing so is to let other team-members see the save. Screenshots are better, IMO. Best Practise is for the person playing the turn to play on directly from the save that he has on his computer... which should be identical to the last upload anyhow (unless you chose not to upload it, in which case it is more advanced than the uploaded save).

If you follow best practise, there will not be any risk of playing from an earlier save.

edit: i see, i forgot to save after i moved the warrior last time. i guess i just moved it, screenshotted it, and exited. not used to this slow pace of game.

we can't settle the desert river without waiting until turn 2, yeah? i don't like the idea of waiting a whole extra turn to settle. let's do it here & now.

if no one is replying joey its cause they have faith in your abilities. or they're waiting til you f, er, mess up so we can all laugh at you

it sounds like ppl want to pick up the pace a bit. i was gonna play until we hit size 2, but should i play until we finish TGW (unless something interesting happens)? that'll be 16 turns, according to the plan i layed out earlier.

anyways all we need now is to finalize a research plan. i was thinking TW->Mining->BW->Writing->Aesthetics; the other beeline targets could be alphabet (skip TW, Mining, BW), Construction, and Monarchy. what say u all.
