SGOTM 18 - BadCiv

Parthenon unlikely yeah, Mansa has the techs & Marble.
Golden Pagoda, maybe. Mansa doesn't have Meditation but he does have Gold.

Though I gotta wonder, maybe there's no point to Golden Pagoda? It seemed pretty tempting to rush into Free Religion before we knew what the religion setup was gonna be but right now it looks like there's 1 dominant religion, which we are a member of. Mongolia may Judaism soon since Mansa has been diligent about sending out missionaries. At our current setup Free Religion would give us a pretty meager bonus of ~4 :science: but also cutting off some diplo bonuses and maybe raising the cost to tech trade...

sorry i haven't been posting for the last 5 days, been real busy at work. i've been checking in like once a day though to read new posts and i kinda of have some thoughts i'd like to add and also play the rest of my turns but it'll prob have to wait until Thursday. hope thats ok. i can always upload the save now though and someone else can take over if yall all want. w/e.

You guys doin' alright? Your thread has seen very low activity, lately. Turns played is above average, though, so as long as its just a temporary lull...

i think a lot of us have been busy simultaneously or something? at least I have.

we're waiting on boak with bated breath

I can take some turns on Monday whether or not we've progressed, I don't wanna play too much unless others are cool with it cause I already did a long block

I've been busy as of late.

How many GPs could we get with Pacifism? We'd be relying mostly on free specialists and/or natural GPPs from the wonders. Free Religion is also there if we enter a dangerous game of religious switching.

gunna play the rest of my turns now!! unless something major happens that we need to discuss

Turn 71:

- Sending Fembot and our Chariot to scout more of Joao's land and surrounding area since there isnt much else I can scout near Ghengis or Mansa.
- Followed Joe's advice and build fishing bots with work boat and queued up another work boat. then realised that we can't whip after 1 turn because its at 1 pop and won't grow to 2 for 5 turns (am i missing something???)
- Queued another Axeman in Washington.
- Whipped the library in GY (2 pop, 28:hammers: overflow)

Turn 72:

- Started The Great Library in GY.
- Whipped Axeman in Washington (1 pop, 9:hammers: overflow).
- Cancelled Marble to Ghengis (TGL ETA 14 turns).
- Trade Literature to Mansa for Mathematics and Priesthood.
Spoiler :

- Started teching Monotheism (ETA 4 turns).
- Whipped Granary in Woodstock and moved worker off off mined hill to work both flood plains.

Turn 73:

- Chop forest on hill 2S1W of GY (TGL 9 turns away).
- Move new axeman from Washington to choke (left unpromoted).
- Moved Science to 60% so we don't go bankrupt (3 gold left in Treasury, +2:gold: pt)
- Started Barracks in Woodstock, changed worked tiles back to 1 farmed FP and 1 on mined hill so that I can whip again next turn and have it grow straight back to 2 the turn after.
- The -1 diplo hit from Ghengis wears off and he'll now sign open borders with us (and has 3 corn and 2 deer for trade).
- A great prophet is born somewhere.

Turn 74:

- Move workers to two pre-chopped forests around GY ready to chop 2 more forests next turn (for 3 total).
- Started another cottage on grassland SW of Washington.
- Moved a worker onto newly-finished cottage in Washington.
- With extra gold from Washington, we can move back to 70% on the :science: slider and break even.
- I miscalculated when we'd be able to whip in Woodstock, can't whip this turn but it will grow back to size 3. I contemplated changing worked tiles to delay the growth by one more turn but i think this is sub-optimal??? idk. i wish i were better at this game.

Turn 75:

- Chop the 2 forests near GY, TGL will finish next turn.
- Whip barracks in Woodstock.
- Scouting more of Joao's land.

Turn 76:

Spoiler :

- Mansa finishes currency and has 340 gold available for trade
- Gandhi builds the Mahabodhi in Dehli.
- Whip workboat in 60sBP
- Started archer in GY (2 turns) to place on our choke stack.
- Started another Axeman in Washington (3 turns).
- Started an archer in Woodstock for the garrison :c5happy:

Turn 77:

- Monotheism finishes (have not switched into OR yet).
- Started teching Construction.
- Move workboat toward Goldmember, revealing one of his tiles...
Spoiler :

As much as I'm super curious as to see more of Goldmember, I will stop here. I want to think about/discuss what to tech next (i havent ended turn yet), what we should build and if we want to pop another city out soon?

Did we agree on how long our turn sets would be? I've done 11 or 12 now i think, so I'm happy to pass it on to the next dude. I can still play some more turns though if needed.

I haven't ended turn yet on turn 77, all units have been given orders though. Won't take any screenshots and will instead upload the save.

ok I'm gonna take a crack at the save

I actually switch us to research Meditation.. we can get it in 2 turns and only India has it right now.

Khan declares war on Portugal. I was hoping he was planning to go after Mali but this is probably the 2nd best scenario, keeps our two neighbors busy. Khan also popped up and asked us to embargo Mansa, I declined since we were getting trade route income from him. Knocks us down to Annoyed with Khan but I figure that malus will disappear by the time Khan is freed up to wage war.

We can sell Meditation to Mansa for 95 cash. Construction right now will take 9 turns to finish, extra cash would let us do it in 7.

Our chokepoint has 2x axemen and spearmen, really only needs a fort to be perfect.

Here's a bit more look at Goldmember's land:
Spoiler :

It's pretty nice. No crazy advanced units have appeared yet.
I guess, slow research Construction, build catapults when it's done, and try to invade with a Catapult & Axemen army? Horse Archers don't seem so good against spearmen and hills and we don't have iron for Swords...

Didn't switch to OR cause I figured we'd be building lots of units in the near future instead of buildings.

do we need to settle a new city soon or can we manage with what we have until we start taking cities through warfare?

we can probably manage with what we have for now. the stone/clams site would be nice, but I'd rather take that juicy looking spot from goldmember... be good to start pumping some units now. we'll need a small stack (4 units lets say, axes/swords), 2 galleys, and 2 cats at the very least. if we're lucky he'll even have more than 1 city to take!

We should hold off Stone/Clams until we need Stone. Ideally we'll put a few more units at the choke, turtle up and make mini turtles, who shall carry hedonism teachers to Goldmember. Is there any trade available for Construction? Sorry for being MIA.

ive been busy.. well actually no just lazy. but I'll take a handful of turns in the next day or so building up units and scouting out the location. Once I see what kind of defense there is I'll get a good sense of how many units we need / how many galleys we need... some cool micro opportunity... im psyched!!

is there anything we can use to determine how many cities goldmember has? I guess his score and demographics suggest he has at least 3 or 4.

Should be able to see it in the trade conversation if he'll speak to us, minus the capital.
