SGOTM 20 - Misfit Gypsy Nuts

I would like to see in Ronnies turnset units attacking the hindu island and probably a few HA's for the Christian city to the East. Would also recommend adopting OR when we next change civics as well. Save the bother of building monasteries for faster spread. We don't need to adopt a religion.

Do we actually have Mono yet? I didn't think we had the tech for OR. It was available in trade, maybe we can arrange a tech for Mono + cash deal from someone?

I would not object to a monastery in Rostov, along with a temple. OR is an expensive civic but will help with buildings, such as all the temples we need to build. Not sure I would revolt into it until we have religion spread to at least a handful of cities, though.
 
We are in protracted war with Louis now. :(

He is getting Iron from Churchill. We control the coast between us, so I'm not quite sure how. I just moved some galleys out of territory SE to blockade that coastline next turn.

From a quick read through the logs, it sounds like a solid turnset Ronnie1! :goodjob: A bit of a hard slog, but war turns are like that sometimes.

How are our EP against Catherine? Do we have enough to think about another tech steal?

It looks like the barbs are becoming a serious problem, especially naval barbs. Where are they coming from? Is it one or two specific places, or are they just appearing all over the place?

If we can make a push to finish off Louis, then we can spend a short period consolidating our gains while we finish off Suleiman, clear out random barbs, and maybe go after a barb holy city or two. Then we will need to gear up for the next war, either against one of the Romans or possibly against Catherine if she is causing us too much trouble.

More comments later once I have a chance to look at the save.
 
OK, looked at the save. A few thoughts....

- We have spy specialists at Rheims and Ankara that could be scientists or engineers. Our EP are few enough that we are not going to be stealing any techs any time soon, so these should be changed.
- We can sell crab to Cathy for 4 gpt and pig to Napoleon for 3 gpt. We could use the gold.
- I don't really like building wealth at Ankara. We could use more ships, or units for attacking Suleiman or the Hindu holy city.
- Nice exploration work! :goodjob: We know a lot more about the world, which will help us determine how we are going to win.
- Hmmmm, looking at the southern waters I see one coastal tile 4S3W of Ghuzz. Could it be a path to reach the barb city (or cities) to the south without Astro? We should take a look when we get a break between barb naval attacks. Not needing Astro would be very helpful.
- We should get at least one unit in our beach city, just to keep the barbs from razing it for free.
- Do we want to plant more filler cities? There is a spot SE of MA where we could plant a coastal city that would get 3 seafood. We need better control over the waters first, but 3 seafood is enough to make a useful whipping post of a city.
- Looking at the big picture, Augustus appears to be slowly crushing Julius. Julius is down to 2 mainland cities plus that island outpost near Ghuzz. We may end up crushing the island city to remove Julius if Augustus can finish taking all the Roman mainland cities. Finish Louis, Suleiman (1 city), Julius (maybe 1 city)...and we could find ourselves only needing to attack one of the English civs. Yeah, I would love to eliminate Catherine, and Napoleon, and maybe more but if we do not have to...well, it would save a lot of time.
- Catherine's culture push is really annoying. :( She only has 5 cities...smashing her may be the way to go. But we shall see. We still have plenty to do to finish off Louis and Suleiman and kill a whole bunch of barbs first. At least the revolt chance at Rostov has fallen, although 3+% is still higher than I like.

Nice bit of exploring there as well. I did wonder with the island to the South there was another way to get to it from the East without the need for astro in which case we don't really need to many techs at all.

Note that Ankara is currently building wealth, so just a couple resource sales will not get us to truly positive cash flow. We should do the resource sales, of course, but we still need more. Especially since being barely cash flow positive at 0% research is not exactly "strong" economically. :lol:

From what we see now (that is, unless there's another path through the fog), I'm pretty sure we can't reach the southern barb city without astro. Culture won't stretch farther than 2 water tiles, will it? The tiles the barb city covers are all ocean tiles, to cross those we'll need astro.

I'd like for next set to at least have some catapults in place bombarding away the defenses of the Hindu island. Should make work of the religions now. All units destined for taking Bursa and Suleiman with it, maybe could be destined to the buddhist city next and from there go down to the holy barb city on the southern shores of England.

Beware of those units that just landed next to Marble Arch! :eek:

Reinforce Rostov with some more units, agree with the PPP here. ;) But still some more units from other corners might help. Seems Catherine used her GA from Music to bomb Yaroslavl.

Send Triremes exploring. Galleys will die. But you have to leave some Triremes at home or our nets will get pillaged.

There is no way via JC's island. Possibility of something to the East but looks doubtful though we should explore where possible.

@McArine most of the builds I agree with (i.e units. :)). Tbh though I'd probably put most of Louis's "poor" cities on wealth until they grow a bit. Things like the library in Chartres etc. I can't see much use and the cash will be better.

Certainly more cats less triremes would seem better to me as well.

Regarding Orleans I would attack with the 3 cats as Nocho has already mentioned.. :)

@Haphazard1 12 turns at Marble Arch for the next GP and 38 points for the next GG. Probably settle in Copper Summit (or somewhere else) though more GG units wouldn't be bad.

There is a Trireme that I forgot to get back in the build que at MA, it has 27/50:hammers:.

Remember we are in Police State, and the cities with Forges are getting +50% on military builds AND whips.

We got machinery, so we need to decide what to research next.
We got Tours and Orleans with few losses, and our forces are marching on Dijon and Lyons. Still plan to raze Dijon.
We're also ready to attack Suleiman, he should be toast in a turn or two.
What to use our spy for? We don't have enough to grab a tech. Should I move him home, for later usage?
