SGOTM 22 - Anti-TSR

Should we settle the GG in Rome for 1 cuir per turn or another medic or some more Combat promos on a caravel or two or what?

We're about at our last chance to build/whip a couple suicide cannons each for Gil's island cities. Enough galleys for all Umma units and cannons for Shuru should leave Nibru with caravel cover asap. Hanni cuirs could go to Umma.

The Girsu SoD we'd obviously prefer to hit in the open with Cuirs to flank all those cats. We'll need a buttload of Cuirs for that. Of course, if we get them out of Girsu and kill off all his cities, we don't even need to attack them...that would be sweet. We'd want a road at Nibru-2E1N for that opportunity. 2 workers available soon from Vienne-SW.

Rome should still build 1 unit per turn. Like Pollina said, (build another wrkshp and) starve it as needed. Doesn't need the Mil Acad.

Fastest way for healed Persepolis Cuirs to Pasagardae is probably via Khurasan.

Good luck, ZPV!

That is one curious power graph.

Some notes for what I had planned:

West front:
- Persepolis cuirs can move to Pasar-1N2E when they are mostly healed
- 2 cannons, our Damascus cuirs and some 1-movers can move to Pasar-SE next turn, unless Darius captures Khurasan.
- If he captures Khurasan, we can attack his stack there. Our Damascus cuirs should probably join the units at Khurasan-SE this turn. They might be needed as defenders. (Or CF this turn?)
- Our 1-movers in DarNorth can capture Ecbatana t228. Our 2-movers could capture Ergili on the same turn. 8 cuirs should be enough for DarNorth.
- All other cuirs should move towards Pasar and Sal.
- Capture Pasar t227 at the latest. t226 would allow us to heal for 1 more turn before the Sal war.
- Time to (cold-)whip cuirs everywhere, especially in Damascus and Mecca.
- Move BrSouth galleys to Mecca-3S3W where our cuirs can board them on t228 for the Baghdad attack. Maybe whip a cannon in Mecca.

East front:
- Vienne t225
- Bibracte t228 (ideally) -> only if we have enough units left for Gilga. Else wait another turn. DoW Gilga t229/230, so that our BrNorth cannons can move to Eridu-SW on DoW+0.
- Bibracte is 80% culture and needs 7 bombardment turns with accuracy. BrNorth cannons bombard t227 while grens get to heal for 1 more turn. BrSouth units join attack t228. I expect that both stacks are enough to take Bibracte. Maybe have 1-2 CR3 cannons from our main stack join. Our main stack can focus on Vienne and healing and brings itself in position to capture Gilga's mainland cities. We may need some units to capture Brennus' new city.
- Workers road dye tile at Nibru-3E2S (t227) and Nibru-2E1N (t229)
- We can attack Gilga's stack in Girsu on DoW+0 and DoW+1. This should reduce the number of units we need there.
- Gilga Islands: 8+10 units? 6 cuirs from Carthage, 1 upgraded CR3C1 GG warrior (?), healed Cuirs near Rome & HC, some new units, maybe 1 or 2 upgraded archers(?), 2 cannons. Units board t228 at the latest. Nibru galley should finish in time to ship 2 units from Nibru if needed.

I think we can kill everyone t230 and win t231, assuming no nasty surprises.

Merry belated Xmas! I'm still not back til Friday. Great progress and plans. Sounds like the riskiest area are the islands because failure there is difficult to recover from. Any way we can squeeze out more more units for those islands would make me more comfortable. Another galley?

Don't forget that we need the road at Khurasan-W. Pollina has 2 workers there to build that road.

East front:
- Vienne t225

If we capture Vienne next turn, we won't have the opportunity to drop units at Larsa-SW on DoW-0 for the Giggles war. We'd have to march through his culture which may not be a huge deal since capturing the island cities is likely to be the critical path.

I agree with WT that this is the riskiest part of the whole plan. Obviously, we're limited by the number of galleys we have which is 8 (+1 as soon as we can whip it). Giggles has 4 caravels in the area so it is going to be risky no matter what we do... Do we try to sneak a few galleys up to where our units are that just finished off Hannibal? That will allow us to use more of our units fighting Brennus to focus on taking Giggle's 4 mainland cities.

Larsa hasn't popped borders a second time. If it does before we attack, we can attack it with some cuirs from the north. Razing Vienne asap is important, so that our workers can move north to build the 2 roads we need. We also want some turns for healing our Vienne attackers.

We won't DoW Gilga before we can drop off units on his islands. His caravels are no threat to our plans, unless they block some tiles we need to move to. It's Brennus' caravels and galleys we have to fear more. Fortunately, he only has 2 caravels and 2 galleys left.

We can try to load some more units on t229 after dropping of our main attackers on the islands. They could attack amphibiously if they don't die to Gilga's caravels. I accidently promoted one of our Carthage cuirs with amphibious. Might actually turn out useful in this case.

Well, I can confirm I can successfully load the save (although "live" turnset reporting will be difficult because alt-tab doesn't seem to work properly any more), but I can't play tonight any more.

I'll have more time tomorrow, but it's still open for anyone who wants to grab it.

Too late for a theatre. Better to keep whipping/building units in Rome.
I was thinking in terms of the final turns, when it may be too late for a unit to arrive and we want to avoid a STRIKE. I suppose other cities might start building wealth before Rome anyway and avert the STRIKE that way.

Got it!

Plans:
1) Pick up the cuirs from ex-Carthage.
2) Whip some cannons in the Rome area for the island cities.
3) Send 6 cuirs back from Persia to get on boats for the island cities.
4) Attack Vienne and Bibracte ASAP.
5) CF Darius (and re-DoW next turn - there's nothing to be gained from re-DoWing this turn) to recalculate Hanni's war weariness.

The last turn each city can usefully build a unit (so we build wealth afterwards):
City build plans:
Rome: Build 5 more units (2 cannons then 3 cuirs). Then Wealth.
HC: The city has 2 2pop whips left in it. They'll both be Cuirs, soon (next turn, not this).
FC: Build a few more cuirs. Then more if we need them for Sal, otherwise Wealth.
Bovino: Cuir (whip) - Cannon - Cannon (coldwhip) - Cuir
Addis Ababa: Cuir (whip) for the Aksum galleys, then one more Cuir, then Wealth.
Damascus: Cuirs. They'll be useful until Saladin is down.
Mecca: Cuirs. They'l be useful until Saladin is down. The cuirs currently there will move to Damascus.
Lalibela: Build 2 Cuirs in 2 turns (for the Aksum galleys).
Aksum: Build 2 galleys (one coldwhip) in 2 turns (extra units for Gil). Then finish the cuir, then Wealth.
Gondar: Whip one Cuir for the Aksum galleys. Whip one more cuir.
Nibru: Keep building a galley, just in case.

Happy New Year, gentlefolks! :)

Between Pollina's ideas and ZPV's plan, looks like things are all wrapped up. Bring it home, ZPV! (unless you run out of time...)

Turnset report, t224 onwards...
(you get some live updates after all).
@Pollina: Baghdad can be accessed from Najran if our Cuirs are in the right position.

t224

Before we CF, another look at Pasargardae:
1 musket, 3 maces, 5 longbows, axe, treb, spear, cat, HA.
CF Darius.

IBT:
Saladin settles his new city. It'll never last.
Brennus pulls his settler stack back to Bibracte.

t225

Vienne is razed, with no losses.
5 rifles down.
Actually, Brennus has 2 settlers, one in Bibracte, and one 3S of Bibracte

t226
Pasargardae is razed. We attacked with the two cannons first (the yellowlined one lost, of course).
Then cuirs from C4 down. Only one withdrew, none lost.

IBT:
Brennus's remaining two Caravels attack our caravels.
One wins (redlined), one loses.
Gil's caravels neatly stack themselves up in an easy-to-avoid formation.

t227
Brennus has a settler guarded by only one rifleman on flatland. It's got to go.
Our pinch Cuir wins a lowish odds battle.
Bibracte is bombarded (partially). It will fall next turn, if we choose.

IBT: Brennus kills a galley that was travelling over from Aksum. Oh well, nothing we could do about that.

t228
Ectabana is razed. Darius is down to 1 city, which will fall t229 or t230, depending on luck.
Units move into position to DoW Saladin.
We now have the last decision to make, attack Bibracte this turn or next?
That would make for a Gil DoW on t229 or t230, depending.
I'll upload and sleep on it, with the intention of probably going for it this turn.

Nice work, ZPV. If you stop, can you leave signs in the save or notes in the thread for the next guy?

Edit: Go ahead and finish if you have time. :goodjob:
