Turnset Report

T47

Stonehenge: Saladin.

Screen shows 4 warriors, more than 4 pop, and 2 buildings:

Settled HC : workboat

Pausing for HC MM. (work corn tile? or rush wb?)

Brainstorming new ideas took up all my time and now I think everyone is gone, so I'll just continue tomorrow. About 8am Pacific.

Data
3. Fish needs insta-wb, which HC builds, earliest T56, nets T67. (HC is coastal)

I see a lot of Rome MM, but not HC.
Turns out, I can get the wb out T55, nets T66. But that will mean less food, so I think I need to pause here for some more analysis.

If I work horse, horse, FPH, I get 10h in 3 turns.
Then pastured horse for 4t.
T55 wb.

loss of 4 food.

Ok, I'll stick with emphasizing food in HC.
However, I have a couple more ideas about the MM, so I'm still going to pause for a bit.

Here's a small variant I came up with so we can settle 1t sooner, but it means delayed chariot-East since HC builds one of the warriors. It requires that we rush the wb

Also results in FishCity 1t sooner, library 1t sooner, and size 8 (cowsCity) 1t sooner.

HC:
T55: rushed wb
T58: warrior for Rome -- arrives T61

Go for it. We don't have to be maniacal about exploration. We just have to do it, along with everything else.

I also wanted to mention some of the "ocean" tiles have been converted to coast if it hasn't been pointed out yet.
This allows the wb to get to fish 1t faster than it normally would (11t).

A common BSP map edit. Mean anything?

INteresting. I hadn't noticed that. Tons of coastal tiles. For one, that enables us to maintain TRs with Sailing in spite of barb coastal cities. It could also mean a nice Moai city, I suppose.

Most important, it means without an exploring wb, we won't know if there's more pre-Alpha accessible land out there. Except with TRs to an offshore AI who has Sailing.

Who knows, he might have put a really nice GLoryLand somewhere for those who pay the price of exploration. Or it's a wild goose chase. COnsidering how food scarce this map is, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the former. IF our workboat has extra turns, it might as well take a well-planned path to defog as many tiles as possible.

I forgot to mention my other goal for this TS.
Pop a gold resource:D

Seriously, I've never played a game with so many mines so early. I think there is a huge chance for one of the teams to pop a free resource.

Question: Is it like forest growth? Should we be avoiding walking on our mines? or can free gold/silver pop up under a unit?

We have to be working the mine for a resource to pop. I doubt we'll pop anything. I've warned the mapmakers in teh past to put advanced resources on the tiles, like uranium or aluminum, which prevents popping something else. And then we went and popped one last game. I thought about that and the Space VC. I bet all the nearby hills have aluminum... :D

Walking on them has no bearing, I don't think. Who knows?

Another comment about the "ocean"
There are some tiles with 1f2c which are supposed to be ocean.
But there are also 0f0c tiles that look like they're the "real ocean"... They are coastal too.

Seems like another huge hint that we don't need Astro.

Sheesh, you're right. We can't see a single non-coastal tile. :crazyeye: GOing to be hard to circumnavigate with the AIs having explored all the land already. That might be a reason to send out at least one wb soon.

Yea, this brings up new ideas.
If the AI hugs the land (do they?) then they might miss the opportunity to circumnavigate.

Now I think maybe we should send and exploring wb (after the fish wb and warrior) instead of the chariot-east explorer.

This makes me think that galleys are more important this game than you'd expect on a pangaea.

More crawling around in BSP's head:
It seems a bit tedious and time consuming to have to road and move an army to the far east, then back far west...not to mention North. Maybe... we only have to move either east or west with our army and then reach the other side of the pangaea by sailing a couple tiles. For that matter...what if we can attack Hannibal by sailing south! Wait...no, it's not toroidal.

If we can move mainly by boat, then Praets actually become much better. And I feel like BSP wants us to use them. Maybe we will pass on HBR and Archery. It's a shame we will have settled our core 4 cities before we can steal IW.

Anyway, all this brainstorming doesn't change the fact that I can keep playing to the next decision point.

Right.

Settlers are cheap. We can either gift one city or grow quickly to pop10, after HeredRule. That's one reason to keep farming Rome. We don't need to limit our REX for now.

That's a wrap for me. ;)

Btw, I agree that teh exploring wb (after the Fish wb) from HC instead of the chariot is probably the smarter move in light of this new information. Try to use the western chariot and the eastern wb to circumnavigate.

More evil thoughts:

Since the river doesn't connect Darius to us...
Why not settle 3S1E! (instead of 1W)

Pro: It would be impossible for barbs to reach the city.
we won't need to defend it or block the chokepoint.

Con: The city might steal a forest from HC once it has a monument :(
But the city will have only Mountain tiles. It will have 1 hpt and zero fpt. I suppose with no tiles to work, it will run a citizen, so that's 2hpt, so it will get that monument eventually.

Another small con: we will lose the mine for 1 turn (the gift turn), then our culture will recapture it.

The biggest disadvantage of 3S1E is that it is not coastal, so we couldn't do LC's galley trick to steal techs faster at max odds. Of course, that only really matters if we can get the galley in place until ~t90, as that's when the galley trick would be most useful.

Stonehenge: Saladin.
I like that both GProphet wonders were built in Holy Cities.

Btw, would the free monument from capturing Stonehenge count towards the building requirement for capturing the city with Stonehenge?
