SGOTM 22 - Anti-TSR

The biggest disadvantage of 3S1E is that it is not coastal, so we couldn't do LC's galley trick

True, but I don't see us stealing Sailing before most of the other tech, and then we'd have to build a galley and get it over there.

I woke up with some more insights into BSP's mind.
The coastal ocean allows us to keep trade networks even after raging barbs settle coastal. Therefore, I'm even more convinced that the AI will have silver, gold, fur for trade soon. I'd say gems too, but that would be a slap in the face of teams that settled gems. I'm also more convinced that the AI won't have Pig, Corn, Fish, Wine, and maybe Deer.
But what if silver is only available for 1t before it's traded to some other AI:eek:. We need a resource available for trade. This leads me to want to road the corn. If we road there and then Rome2S2E, we only delay farms 1t. We don't delay the Darius connection at all.

Nope. You get the monument after you decided to keep the city, but you have to fullfill the requirement at the moment when you decide to keep it.

Btw, would the free monument from capturing Stonehenge count towards the building requirement for capturing the city with Stonehenge?

Yes, anything in the capital's building list. Oops, I mis-read your question. I thought you just wanted to know if it counted as a building.

What BSP said says.

Not true, technically. I can click “Examine city first” when I'm asked, then press F1, and the capital monument will show up in the culture buildings screen. Same when I scroll to the capital with arrow keys, it will show up in the buildings list. All before I click on "Keep it".

question: Should I OB everyone? or not Darius because people hate him? Before too long the AIs will get +1 peace, and then Darius might not be so hated.

Let's try this again...

Turnset Report

T47

Stonehenge: Saladin.

48

Screen shows 4 warriors, more than 4 pop, and 2 buildings:
Spoiler :

Settled HC : rushing workboat

T49

ibt: Brennus : slavery

T50
T51
Writing: OB with all but Darius
Research set to Alpha
Moving next to 2 barbs...

T52
Darius (now -4 with Sal) is his WE. (will be back to normal after +1 peace)
From our forestedPHs, we survive barbs at 1.7 and 1.4

We get zero GG points for that?

T53
Sal has horse. (not interested in our horse.)
T54
T55
Zara settles
wb moves.
T56
T57
barb defeated. 4xp.
T58
Brennus is connected. He'll take Pig and Horse. He has Deer.
T59
We see our first barb Archer in the NE.
Darius finishes IW.

Settler needs a destination (3S1E?)
Worker need orders (road corn?)
Stopped and uploaded
T60
Darius : fish(3)
The +1 peace kicked in. Darius is only WE of Brennus now.

Neither Brennus nor Sal have corn. Brennus has deer, sheep (no trade. waiting for happies)
Brennus has 4 cities. No gift for him.

T61
Darius has 3 cities.
Time to OB, settle, and gift. Pausing to confirm
Spoiler :

Darius has the city. Odd, he went from Fish(2) to Fish(1). I was thinking maybe Fish(3). Whatever.

Darius is Pleased +5
Brennus only gave us -3 (so we're at -2 annoyed)

T62
T63

Dar: sailing(7)

T64
T65
T66
We now have unit maint cost of 1.

Uploaded. Turnset end.

:goodjob:

When does it make sense to settle DariusGift? 3S1E would have no trade connection and would lose us money. Is there anything useful it could build? Another warrior? Or is it better to wait until Darius founds his 3rd city and gift it immediately after settling? Maybe even wait a few turns longer and hope Darius loses WE status with some of the AI?

Well played, WT!!!

TTf seems to playing identically to us. Only difference is they didn't lose a warrior. BSP might have created the first SG ever in which two teams manage to copy each other. :p

If Darius-3S1E builds an archer first, then monument, that will take 23-25 turns depending on what tile he works the first turn. If we manage to gift it to him T66 at the earliest, he might not have even completed the monument and we can sabotage production. :mwaha: Otherwise, we sabotage building. Either way, we would be able to have a decent culture discount.

Pollina and WT are right. The galley trick comes a bit late for our initial tech banquet and later it's not so important. I think 3S1E is the way to go. We have a great opportunity to minimize his culture and we don't need any chokers.

I expect a revolt every 10 turns or so. No way he will finish the monument.

No GG points from barb battles.

This seems like a good compromise. Gives us us the TR on 3S1E pretty soon.

 Good point! This is getting funnier by the minute. Let's hope he builds archer first.

We'll get Alpha before T80 it seems. Plenty of time to run the 1ep spread culture mission before our GSpy. Maybe even steal some cheap techs, like Myst, Medit (don't need Astro, right?), and PH.

We need to plan the spy production and prioritize our tech stealing.

Since we seem to have agreed on everything. I could tick off a few more (boring, meaningless) turns before handing off. But I have played quite a few turns already...just doesn't seem like it.

We agree not to settle until we have roads at least. Ideally not settle/gift until +1 peace kicks in for the Darius haters.

Roading corn, then are we OK with roading Rome2S2E? It's the fastest way to connect GiftCity, but not the most useful road. I suppose we will have to return to that hill to chop/improve it some day.

Chariot explores west, but focuses on defogging 2 tiles off the south coast.

Our warriors can't go out and find trouble until we settle.

+1

There are 3 AIs who appear to be inland, so our explorer probably wants to zigzag, even though it's more dangerous.

I can take over and put up a PPP until tomorrow, but I don't think I can play until Thursday. I'm fine with WT playing a few more turns, too.
+1
