SGOTM 22 - Fifth Element

Seems like I'm outvoted. City#2 asap it is (and hope we don't miss Gwall ;)).

Tried one day more to fins a way to take enough overflow from t39 settler to finish warrior, but failed.

Anyway, during the test I noticed that psture first scenario ends up with more food in city bar for the price of only 3 neakers! (tradeoff 5 food - 3 beakers, so a little change to plan:

t24: worker -> pig, Ciy works pigs
t26: pig -> forest
t28 city grows to pasture
t31: pasture -> forest
t32: city grows into forest
t33 LH ready, starts settler: fish, pasture, mine, forest
t39 settler ready, starts warrior
t40: pasture -> forest to finish warrior in 1 turn

I dont really think anyone would oppose having more food stored for such a low price.

The bad thing: at the turn when we have worker to steal, Hani moved an archer to a tile. Any ways to ask the archer to go away?
Pretty late Oracle t30 in Persopolis

Turn 29, 2840 BC: You have discovered The Wheel!

So we don't get to steal a worker, not a big deal. Is it worth keeping the warrior there or move him back for spawn busting until we (hopefully) get Gwall built.

OK 1 turn further:
Turn 30, 2800 BC: Brennus is the worst enemy of Saladin.
Turn 30, 2800 BC: Darius I is the worst enemy of Gilgamesh.
Turn 30, 2800 BC: Saladin is the worst enemy of Brennus.
Turn 30, 2800 BC: Darius I adopts Hereditary Rule!

= the chosen tech was Monarchy. So we have a goal for GSpy if Darius available for spies.
If we have Darius to steal Monarchy, should we change back esp to him? (now it is Hannibal)

Also stopped because carthaginian worker finished chopping forest on gold (oh why....) but also archer moved away. Do we risk worker steal? would Hannibal attack our warrior? We have 1promotion to add, so the only choice would be combat1.

3 turns ago as I saw Carthage there were 2 archers and a spear. 1 moved with a worker. We dont know toward what the chop went, but I suppose there should not be more units in the fog yet. Odds are against us, but is Hannibal brave enough to attack? I remember sth like different AIs have different probabilities to attack in such situations. Anyone know anything about it?

I don't know for sure, but I think on Monarch he will be less likely to attack. Also, he'll take a cease fire long before his units could reach us. It's a lot of upside if he leaves us alone and only a small downside if he attacks.

In my test runs Hannibal had archer and spear in capital and accepted peace after 5-6 turns. I'm not sure an extra archer will make a huge difference, he's probably building a settler at the moment. If archer is adjacent to worker then we could lose warrior and worker which may affect willingness to accept peace treaty. Short answer: I don't know.

edit: go for the worker steal.

It makes the difference because archer is outside city so more likely to attack

I cannot find the exact formula, but rather have no hope the archer will not attack

iBaseAttackOddsChange - Modifies the Attack odd chance, to make an AI think that a battle is more likely to be won, thus having him more likely to attack (without any real effect on the battle). The total modifier is: iBaseAttackOddsChange + rand(0, iAttackOddsChangeRand) + rand(0, iAttackOddsChangeRand) (0 (most leaders)); 6 (Ragnar, Napoleon))
0: 27 Leaders - BARBARIAN ; ASOKA ; AUGUSTUS ; BISMARCK ; CHARLEMAGNE ; CHURCHILL ; DARIUS ; DE_GAULLE ; ELIZABETH ; FREDERICK ; GANDHI ; HAMMURABI ; HATSHEPSUT ; HUAYNA_CAPAC ; ISABELLA ; JOAO ; KUBLAI_KHAN ; LINCOLN ; MANSA_MUSA ; PACAL ; PERICLES ; FRANKLIN_ROOSEVELT ; SALADIN ; SURYAVARMAN ; TOKUGAWA ; VICTORIA ; WANGKON ;

2: 14 Leaders - CATHERINE ; CYRUS ; JULIUS_CAESAR ; JUSTINIAN ; LOUIS_XIV ; MAO_ZEDONG ; MEHMED ; QIN_SHI_HUANG ; RAMESSES ; STALIN ; SULEIMAN ; WASHINGTON ; WILLEM_VAN_ORANJE ; ZARA_YAQOB ;

4: 10 Leaders - ALEXANDER ; BOUDICA ; BRENNUS ; GENGHIS_KHAN ; GILGAMESH ; HANNIBAL ; MONTEZUMA ; PETER ; SHAKA ; SITTING_BULL ;

6: 2 Leaders - NAPOLEON ; RAGNAR ;

iAttackOddsChangeRand - Modifies the Attack odd chance, to make an AI think that a battle is more likely to be won, thus having him more likely to attack (without any real effect on the battle). The total modifier is: iBaseAttackOddsChange + rand(0, iAttackOddsChangeRand) + rand(0, iAttackOddsChangeRand) (16 for barbarians; 8 for everyone else)
8: ALL LEADERS minus BARBARIAN

16: 1 Leaders - BARBARIAN ;

Hanni techs: Hunting or sailing, Agri, BW, Wheel, maybe 1 more. In the graph below there is a mistake - he wont be able to reseacrh AH so early, I suppose he doesnt have it still.

Hanni has another strong food tile in cap I suppose - fish or preferably another farm resource. Now he is working 15 food and 6 hammers (1x6 food tile - wet corn probably, 1x wheat, 2 x grassforest. I dont expect him to construct a settler yet - AI tends to send settling company with 2 archers

IMO he has 3 archers in sum - 1 starting and 2 more constructed (or it can be barracks instead of one of them).

IMO it is not worth to risk a worker steal, I would prefer to wait a turn or 2 hoping archer was send for exploration

What are the odds for unpromoted archer vs combat1 warrior on a hill? (I suppose we should promote to C1 before worker steal)

I was going to suggest waiting to see if archer moves away. Odds of warrior surviving archer and avoiding/surviving animals/barbs on the way back are pretty low I suspect.

It might be worth stealing the worker just to hamper Hannibal even if the odds are against us getting him home.

I've attached an extract of Leader attitudes for reference.

BTW I realised why the scouts were placed where they were - last game there was a large variation on when teams met their opponents based on random choices by the AI rather than good scouting, this was a way to avoid that issue I reckon.

We pretty much know that the worker is going to stay to mine the gold. He'll probably road it as well. That gives us 6 turns to see if the situation improves. I'm ok with biding our time.

So I should just wonder around and wait for better chance, is that right?

Leave warrior hanging around near Carthage and maybe play some turns, its not important enough to waste days deliberating.

OK I have stolen a worker, when archer went to fogbust new city position. Hanni settled 2nd city (he could settle it better) but settler was escorted by 2 archers so I couldnt take it.

Should I go for peace ASAP (now possible).

On the side of bad news is that Darius was 1st to Monotheism, so it also means he 1) has masonry b) will get OR production bonus
I was hoping someone else that Darius and Gilgamesh, 2 wonderspammers, take it first :(

I also need final decision of where to settle, before I put a road: I suppose we all agreed with 1S from yellow
