SGOTM 22 - Fifth Element

I reckon we probably will end up with a compromise city somewhere around yellow, depending on amount of overlap desired.. Had a look at enKage's first city save (?#179) and it looks like there aren't four units in Rome the turn the city is founded so we need to be mindful of this in the real game at the expense of escorts/spawnbusters.

There were enough warriors in Rome. I just moved them out after settling

Revealing metal has a very high cost in terms of delaying the 2nd city. We'd have to build 4 axes/spears all in Rome. Far better to found a city while we can still use warriors, even if it's not a perfect city site. The starting area was reasonably strong, so we may as well put a city there.

Ah sorry yes, had momentarily forgotten that twist. I think it's either horses or the original area. Probably the latter, closer for less maintenance. Means we're less likely to use horses - it'll either be Praets or Elephants.

Another quick whizz, settling on Yellow1S got Antium 2440bc (?T39), Gwall T53. Bit hairy with three barb warriors inside borders turn before Gwall.

Wow, that seems really fast! I don't think I was getting GW until T60 or later.

The close calls are pretty much to be expected. I think that's just a sign that we timed it perfectly.

Anyway, let's start laying out the turn-by-turn plan.

Excellent, it means we can save 2 more turns on setttler! (I suppose you moved back all warriors to Rome?)

Let us just go for that settler and think about GWall later.

Oops . Forgot about second building, invalid test.

edit:another go including LH, settled Antium T41, Gwall T51 (double whip). Tech: sailing, masonry,BW. Got lucky with barbs.

Everything in RL is moving really fast. we have less than 2 weeks to move our whole family from Germany to Colorado and start a new job so I will pop in as much as possible.

Damn, I am so sick of RL getting in the way. I just want to play Civ!!

Hey, at least I'll have a teammate who's actually close to my timezone! Although, with the hours enKage keeps, I think he may have invented his own wandering timezone. ;-)

Yes, I used to live opposite to my time zone

ok, who is moving forward?

I'm happy to play a few turns at this point.

Here's my latest attempt. We lose a few worker turns waiting for BW. If this is generally the favoured approach (city#2 and Gwall asap) then I can post a detailed plan for criticism/feedback.

The plan should go max till settler, the earliest we found it till now is t40 with 1 additional warrior. Anyone can quicker? If not, we just should go for settler and thgink about GWall after this.

We wont lose worker turns if we get wheel. We need roads to those forest tiles for defence and coordinated chops

pigswill, are yoy taking the set? Otherwise I can play.

Parts of next set

1) finish worker - submit
2) finish LH - submit
3) finish settler

We need some stops to evaluate if Masonry is researched by AIs. We should know it by tech cost

If you've got a plan for T40 city then carry on.

Because evrything about the worker has been already said, I will reach hat moment,

For the warriors: southern reveals coast, then move north near the border to fogbust.
Western goes back with a circle. The same eastern.
Northern also goes back.

The reason is we need warriors around the city near t40. We should add 2-3 turns per any warrior to heal in case of animals.

EP changed to Hannibal

Agreed?

Sounds good. There's always a chance of losing warriors but that's an RNG thing.
