SGOTM 22 - Fifth Element

I am not into testing till sutarday too

I guess I'm forging ahead alone.

Nah, I can wait. I've run a couple more tests tonight, though, and I've proved myself wrong! WB first got me the 2nd city 2 turns sooner.

Research:
AH -> Sailing -> Wheel -> Pottery -> Myst -> Writing (or BW)

Builds:
WB -> Warrior -> Worker -> LH -> Settler -> WB (exploring)

Founded Antium on T43.

It's going to be a slow start to this one!

There's not really a ton of choices to be made due to the constraints. Maybe you could drop the Warrior from the build list, but then you have no fogbuster at the site of the 2nd city.

Anyway, when you get to testing, T43 is the mark to beat.

Since I'm only playing to somewhere around T15, I'll post the PPP for that. If there are any early decisions that improve the date of the 2nd city, please propose amendments.

Well so far I have not been able to improve on the T43 founding of the second city. I'll keep trying but I think that the current builds are a good choice and that date does seem to be what I hit on all test in spite of varying the build and research orders.

Hi team, just found the time to chime in. I've seen the PMs just now, as you probably know my last visit on CFC was before the team threads were opened.

I'm afraid i can't contribute much this game, but i'll see. I'd like to if i find the time.

For now i see we have a nice start with good commerce, food and production. I presume we will settle Rome where i see the blue circle. It's 1 turn if i got it right, well invested.

Who's the captain this time? NZ took the first page, does he took the role too? Thanks pigswill for the endorsement, but i can't be so active to be the captain.

Hey UT, are you back in the States and your interviews are there? Good luck!

Do we really need a captain? Let us do some anarchy :]

Staurday's on sight, so I will run tests.

BTW, remember we need 4 warriors in Rome when we settle 2nd city, I also think we will need more. On monarch barbs starts t25 AFAIR and because it is raging, we can expect them coming into our cultural borders.

OTOH any additional unit will cost us maintanace Tricky start

BTW by result page we know, probably others settled inland because they all submitted t12 save, probably with a AH ready. With coastal it would be impossible to get AH t12

It is also confirmed by culture graph, all 3 teams which submitted a game, has 24 culture, so they settled t0. Nice to know our game will be unique even if not played perfectly :P

I'm going to work on building a new test game, so that I can correct the latitude and we don't run out of room to the north. I'll post the new one in a bit.

P.S. I haven't seen barbs in my tests until around T38, but when they come, they come in a flood. I lost Antium in one game.

I am really not convinced with workboat first. It is 12 turns to WB or 18 to worker. 14t to improve 5food or 22 to improve pigs. I'll take some sleep and start testing.

First what scares me is warrior before worker.

Some thoughts. Before BW we would have only 2 land tiles to improve. Ideal situation is when we get 3 improved tiles, settler at 3, city grows to 4 while moving settler.
Techs: AH to locate horses, sailing for LH, BW (leave 1 turn until city settled). We need BW really soon, if no horses and copper at least we will have some time for cheap archery

WB first is good IF we are able to steal worker from Sal. Also: LH before settler, and warriors (1-2? assuming 2 of current warriors will be away) AFTER settler while heading for city spot. Each warrior added earlier is a cost

t41 2nd city assuming it is founded 1N where settler started (I saved 1 turn by roading). Also workboat first. Sailing - ah - the wheel - BW (stopped 1 turn before). Except builds: WB -> worker -> LH -> preb warrior -> 1 turn of workboat -> back to warrior -> settler.

This was made with growing first instead of working unimproved hill

I tried growing first, and I got T42 but not T41.

The warrior was mostly in the build order to grow to size 2. I'm still surprised that it doesn't pay off to build the WB as fast as possible.

What's the purpose of switching from warrior to WB for 1 turn?

P.P.S. In the medium-long term, it seems like we need to get to Monarchy very early. Without Hereditary Rule, we'll be stuck at 3 cities. Unfortunately, that means the religious tech path, which has few other benefits. Maybe we could pick up Stonehenge as the first of our 7 Wonders. Great Wall would probably be better, but that's off the path.

Going to test now, would really like the Great Wall but that might be quite difficult. Stonehenge has the benefit of giving us 1 Wonder and 2 Buildings (SH and the Monument).

If we had Iron in one of our 3 cities do need more - can we Praet stomp the map with 3 cities??
