SGOTM 22 - Xteam

The test game got corrupted while I was working on revisions and I had to start with a save from 675bc to correct the problems. I hope to have it posted by Tuesday, 2pm my local time.

Does anyone have a feel for what our current chances are of achiving a conquest victory before the other teams (not the AI)? What about our chance of beating them if we go for a space victory by concentrating on building commerce instead of troops?

Sure would like to get some more feedback before playing, but game needs to be moved along.

Here is a save of test game played until 1AD using proposed plan (as best as can be done with the test save), if anyone is interested: http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=401126&stc=1&d=1448304555

(I did have 8 citizens and 8 archers in capital when 4th city founded -- actually fifth city in this test, as couldn't gift Antium, which plan to do immediately in real game).

My understanding is that before founding, and immediately after founding, a new city, I need to post a save. Correct? Anything else needed by administrators?

Playing in about 6-8 hours, unless get caution lights here before that.
CP; I looked at your save, I do not have any criticisms but do have a couple of what I hope are constructive comments.
This may be past where you are playing to. While the test game does have a southern passage which allows a WB built in the capital to net the fish for iron city there is no guarantee that the real game will have a similar passage so I would build the WB in iron city.
Also, more for the future than right now, instead of a WB in Caput build a spy or 2. Sal will know currency soon and we could use that tech.
Finally, we have a total of 5 buildings in Caput, to obtain ciy 6 we need a sixth building, Caput should build a library. I think the library should be build sooner rather than later for the research boast.

Thought about that, and the advantaged gained if the passage is there seems worth the 30 hammer risk of the wkbt, which could be used to explore NW as a fall-back option.
Also, more for the future than right now, instead of a WB in Caput build a spy or 2. Sal will know currency soon and we could use that tech. I appreciate the utility of a spy, but getting cities settled and their production going just seems a higher priority; nonetheless, will try to work one in.

We're gifting Antium, so library not needed right now, though no doubt will want to build one fairly soon.

Appreciate everyone's feedback. Playing now, will post in an hour or so. Joe, suggest you wait a bit on new test game.

Played about 7 turns, 400 BC until 225 BC.

Sal immediately preempted our Forest City plans by settling Khurasan in 375 BC, in effect cutting it off, so proceeded toward the other option of a Horse City, which we can found next turn NW of horse or in two turns NNW of the crabs. I'm inclined toward NW of horses, because we are so far behind the AI that waiting for expansion to get good use out of the city is unappealing.

Iron City next of course. Will chop forest SE of capital to speed that settler.

Lost an archer on a hill to a barb warrior trying to clear the peninsula. No luck but bad luck this game.

Alpha next.

Done a good deal of exploring, but haven't found much encouraging, except that there is a trade route around the peninsula.

Unfortunately, Sal traded away his extra sugar before our cow was pastured.

Will play some more in about 8 hours, unless I get caution flags here first.

Appreciate it if someone would post a screenshot for Ronnie.

I would have preferred Iron city instead of horse first since then we could have started to produce praetorians.

Worker 1 should run towards corn instead of building a road. We will be connected by sea.

I would have preferred Iron city instead of horse first since then we could have started to produce praetorians. Close call. Lack of praets is very concerning. Settling Horse first because AI are settling everything around us quickly and so feared we might not get there first, which would be disastrous. Been several scouts and AI units in the horse area.

Worker 1 should run towards corn instead of building a road. We will be connected by sea.
Sea route just got confirmed this turn, and road will be quite useful.

Playing . . .

Good luck CP!
We are in need of Haka power:

Frustrating to be missing so many resource trading opportunities, but proceeding toward founding Iron City.

Alpha>Construction. Building spy. Traded corn for silk with SAL, and waiting for team to OK trade of horses for fur, sheep, and silver with Brennus. Will pause for feedback shortly.

Stopping for feedback and/or to turn it over if someone else wants to take it (willing to continue, if not).

Denied Sal's request to end relations with Celts.

Need instruction on what to do with spy just built in capital.

Intending to whip a barracks there next turn.

2 turns from Construction. Turns out we'll be building cats before praets.

Aesthetics next?

LIke horse trade with Brennus.

Thanks for the screen shots!

I would settle the horse with the seafood!

Do we have enough ESP points to steal from Gift? If not, send to Sal's new city!

I would settle the horse with the seafood! Already settled 1NW.

We have more points for Sal, but not sure how to know what's enough. (No tech stealing in Vanilla.)

Seems the only place we can get anything is from Sal and, as long as we wait 5-turns and the Spy survives, we should have enough for at least a tech or two. Would send the Spy to Khursan.

What techs do we want to steal? No Monarchy until we steal Poly and Priesthood. Thinking that is the road we should take.

Intending to whip a barracks there next turn.
Okie Dokey.

2 turns from Construction. Turns out we'll be building cats before praets.
I assume with Praets we do not need Hufflelumps (WE's)?

Aesthetics next?
Yes, think so.

LIke horse trade with Brennus.
We can get some smileys from him that way. Only hope he doesn't use them against us. :please:

Already settled 1NW.
Then happy to have another city with horses available soon!

We have more points for Sal, but not sure how to know what's enough. (No tech stealing in Vanilla.)
If you go to the EP menu, > select AI, > select city, it shows how many EP the cheapest available tech to steal requires if I recall correctly.

I assume with Praets we do not need Hufflelumps (WE's)? A moot question, as we have no means of getting ivory atm.

Whomever we attack is going to have horses.

We should try to chop the forests directly east of Sal's new city before he gains control of them.
