SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

When running a gazillion GA merchants, will we run a deficit? Where can we squeeze out another turn? Research? 70 workers? An eighth GM?

I think it is still a deficit, but yea, we could probably make that up with conquest gold, etc. However, you still have to make it to the GA. I suppose if we're starting it several turns earlier than T115 then you don't have a lot of money to gather. My turnset started around -60gpt and now we're -140, so I'd think you can expect -200 before you can run merchants.

I think we're out of money T105. Capture gold from Oporto+Persepolis on T104 hsould get us there. I don't know that we have another target lined up for T105. We could probably get Moai built 106, but we wouldn't get the gold til 107. I count I only got 252 into Moai, so that's not going to save us.

From now until the golden age, GLH is going to affect 12 cities....that's 24 new TRs.
We'll pretty much have used up all our foreign TRs and only get +1 for each of the 24.
To get more, we'd have to settle an island or capture in England.
We can't expect GLH to provide much more than 300 :science: on the way to Banking.

We have 10 turns of research if we bulb Philo. That's T111. That's also assuming we scrape up the cash to keep the slider at 100%.
Can get the wonders done and cities grown in time along with the cash?

Short term, yes, we do have a problem. (Thx :)) Can we pillage all of those cottages around Lisbon or just the one you marked? I'll look for some more Moai chops. I haven't really gotten that far.

Okay. That's a target.

My way of thinking is that you had things set up for 20t of the GA, so why not start the GA 4t earlier, regardless of how set up we are? Otherwise it goes to waste, right?

Unless it's too soon to be able to chain the GAs, if that even matters, which I doubt, because one of the keys is to have free civics changes asap. The Parthenon 50% can be delayed.

Actually my first hours were spent figuring out if we could start our first GA now and run 32t straight.

Yes, pillage all the cottages. :)

I think chops into MoM or Parthenon failgold are still worth it. They won't bridge the gap to our golden age, but they will let us upgrade a bunch of knights at the front.

The limit on firing the golden age early is getting both GPs for the second golden age - we've got spare turns at the end of the second one to burn.

you can pillage all if you want. Sign was not for just 1 tile. I wasn't sure if we'd be better off using those villages. Probably the immediate need for money is stronger.

we also need our religion spread. We just got Athens. The other missionary was going to Lisbon, not Paris. Hopefully Sal will spread to Paris.

Coastal tiles will be 2f3c, which is a river hamlet, or 2f4c with the Colossus. Of course, those Lisbon tiles also give an extra hammer but at the cost of 1f. Ultimately, I think we'll be limited by our absolute beaker rate. Colossus is one solution. Another is capturing as many cities asap, especially Churchill's overseas ones. We just need to get to where we can stay comfortably at 100%.

More cities will also give us more places to build settlers/workers. Speaking of which, the Orient Express is faster through Stalin if we're taking Kublai out anyway. 70 workers by my unofficial count, with only one settler at the end. Built settlers are cheaper than 2 built workers. I'm not ready to rule out a 1t rr yet.

Do we know we can build rr in a vassal's territory?

Right.

Anyone see how to get MoM in SQ before T113?

Sure.
Keep the city size 4+ (maybe a turn or two at size 3)
Set up 3 whips. The current HA plus sword and then a galley for churchill or cat.

This is rough draft...
t101-102 Work the cow and put 19 into galley or cat
t103 put 9 into sword
t104 whip sword
T105 MoM (start working the copper at size 5+)
work in 2 chops when you're not whipping.
108 whip HA
110 whip galley
T111 Over 450h
MoM active T112.

Okay, thx. So we can also get a T111-active MoM whipping only the HA and a galley and 3 chops. So we can start the GA as early as T111, if we want.

Any reason we might want Islam in SQ? We could spread there instead of Lisbon now and 2whip another Missionary for Lisbon instead of the sword in your plan or the galley in my plan.

+1 happy, but we probably don't need that.
The only other benefit I can see is if it forces Sal to spread to Paris instead of SQ.

I think it's better to skip the forge in Berlin. Should we settle the GG there for +5XP? A couple accuracy cats will be very useful. Add a stable and the knights start out at 7XP. That would enable them to promote after 2-3 battles without having to slow their forward movement.

How soon will we learn Engineering?

Engineering is probably first after Banking. We cannot do Paper until we bulb Chem twice.
Paper opens up Edu and Ppress.
We need early Chem so we can get started on Steel.
