SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

I don't fancy the idea of skipping Memed. And I want marble (although he has 2 and might trade it soon). I was thinking more along the lines of gifting him Munich (or possibly Jerusalem) to thin out his units. We're planning to double chop a granary next turn in Munich, but we could just leave the forests for now. It's size 1 and has no buildings and no food in the bin rt now.

I am going to bring the extra 2 units to drop Istanbul-W cus, like you said, they block.

I'm done for the day, btw.

If we had 3 cats, Istanbul wouldn't be very difficult at all. Munich can get 3 chops in 3 turns which seems to be our only easy access to the front.

If we're going to give Mehmed a city, I think it should be one he can't easily defend, like Hamburg.

Hamburg (while in revolt) might be a good idea. Any other city over size 1 he would whip a defender. I see Munich as an option to lure units out of the Istanbul. I would hope he never actually gets a defender in there.

btw, Jerusalem has +10 food--just the same as Munich so it could take over as a GP farm if we choose. Jerusalem doesn't have too many other tiles to work after it's 3 food anyway. I may mine the two river-hills.

I've got early weekend plans, so I should try to finish up Mon-Wed.

I worked out the Lisbon attack.
We've got as many as 10 HAs and 2 chariots. Options are something like:

DoW : total army
T98 : 5 HAs, 2 chariot
T99: 6 + 2
T100: 9 + 2
T101 : 10 + 2

So T100 is looking like the best balance of safe and early, but we could always pull the trigger when ready.

my notes on cities, shows how many HAs and when they all could reach Lisbon.

Fredb (3 HAs)
finish farm
94 whip
97 whip
dow 100
98 chop
dow 101

Paris (3 HAs)
(work forest)
96 whip
97 work cow
99 HA moves
dow 100

SQ (3 HA)
95 work cow 2t
96 4 OF + 9 = 13
97 whip + chop = 100h
dow 100

CEB (2 HA)
96 1whip
98 2whip
(dow 100)

I'll play again after lunch. Galley4 is bringing those 2 extra HAs. Workers in south can work their way to Jerusalem for cows tile and a mine or two, then to Istanbul. They would have wasted a lot of turns boarding, unloading at Athens, and then trying to find useful work to do .

Turnset Continued....

ibt: Barbs take the bait. Moses is sacrificed fleeing Egypt.

T94
Interesting. Hatty, apparently changed her plan from what the city showed last turn and worked 3sci after all during her turn, so the Archer did not complete. That means, not only do we get to capture Hamburg 100%, but...possibly more importantly, we won't have an injured HA. Could mean we get Lisbon sooner

Before that, we need to try for Theo...
Spoiler :
235 EPs. success, spy survives
Furcity is ours again
Hamburg is ours : Only small amt. of gold. Granary survives!!
Hatty is dead.

Looks like Memed will complete that road connecting Munich to Istanbul next turn. Thx, I'll use it to move 2 HAs thru.

Got 30 + 30 for Priesthood

I have some fancy boating options I could do, so I'm going to pause for a few hours to consider them (among other RL stuff I need to do).
All I can achieve is getting those last 2 HAs that were going to Istan-W to block (and would have to attack across river) and instead chain them up to the front so they could disembark anywhere they want. Just in case we know that blocking is not needed...why have them crossing a river.

T95
ToA
completed by Russia

Music, great artist.

Jerusalem: horrible somewhat bad luck :(
first HA, not a scratch,
2nd HA hits down to 2.1

Luckily 3rd wins at 71%
85 gold (which is also low I think)

Great news! Sal has an Islamic missionary at Munich-2SE  Looks like Islam was a great choice. We can focus on spreading to Athens, Lisbon, Berlin and let Sal spread to our religion-less cities (I think that's how it works)

We lost connection to Mao. clams for 2 gold trade cancelled.

T96
I give in to Stalin's demand for HBR.
He gets GSpy :( No philo for him.

Uploaded. About to DoW Memed.

Memed's 'stack' of archer, spear, chariot attacks our mini defense (HA, HA, Axe) at the MunichDeer. 3 pretty easy wins for us.
I put a HA out on flat land to lure a wandering C1sword. It takes the bait, but also kills our naked HA. That was likely to happen, but our Jerusalem HA gets an easy kill.
Our empty galley is attacked and we win.

T97

Istanbul
Cat scratch fever...meaning our Cat was able to scratch the sword to 5.3 and dmg Axe 4.5, archer 2.6, archer 2.6. Dying of course.
C1shock (27% survival) scratches the sword 4.4.
nakedHA gets Axe down to 2.3
C3 (50% odds) hits sword down to 1.5
Finally we get to try for an archer...
C2 (55%) wins.
C1 dies on the other archer 0.5
I send the slightly injured 5.6 HA with 1xp to get 3xp (2 promos) at 86%. Win.
nakedHA (98%) +2XP
C3 goes in to get 1XP for promo.

aqueduct
:( granary lost.

Academy (geez, there were so many GS's around but none lately. Sux)

 our healer can run back from Istanbul-E to Munich to heal those attacked IBT

Joao just spent all the money I was going to steal some day by upgrading 2 warriors to Axe. At least it wasn't spears. Our chariots should come in handy. (one axe is guarding the worker and one is in Oporto, so no effect on Lisbon.
Gift CoL to him so he'll be in caste.

Joao: caste
Persepolis: GLH complete

Sal spreads Islam to Fredburg who needed culture badly.
He's got 2 more heading our way and we have 2 moving to Munich

I did the clams to Mao for 2 again (last turn I think)

Killed a barb warrior in the deep south.

Uploaded to think about troops around Istanbul. There are workers dangling around Yaro. A mini-stack approaching Istanbul (or Jerusalem if we're not careful), etc.

T99

Killed another barb warrior in the south
Darius will trade Monarchy+20  (I'm assuming for Currency)

Memed approaches Istanbul.
Uploading to consider closing borders with Joao rt now for proper Axe teleport.

We could pillage the sheep at Hamburg-E.
We should be able to get this tile back from Russia, so maybe not. Could get us a couple Russian workers. Problem is, we really don't have any army to mess around with Russia for the near term.

No messing with Russia, please. ;)

fredburg is going to have a helluva time popping borders (only has 2 hammers--1 hpt if we chop as planned). I think popping borders for the Iron and extra forests is more important than chopping T98.
I have to start a HA for whipping this turn, T95. We'll need to build culture T96-T100 (losing only 8 hammers to culture)

we're burning cash faster than I thought this early. -90 gpt was just -60 a few turns ago.
We need about 2000 gold to get from here to T115. Probably more like 2500.

There is an archer/spear/chariot at Munich, so I'm substituting an Axe for the workboat. We have another axe and a couple horses there too.

Istanbul has archer/axe/sword. Not bad, but also has the same 3 units within reach.

It's time to plan our landing at Istanbul.
Mostly where to put the Axe (who will probably defend our stack) and how many HAs to put where. I suppose I could roll the turn first so we know a bit more. then upload.
edit: Turned out to be not very hard to plan the drops. no discussion needed.

Stalin is demanding horseback riding and I think I want to give it to him. Thoughts?
edit: nm, I gave it to him.

Sadly, right after, he pops a Gspy. So I guess we don't get Philo from there.

Stalin can't be bribed against us since we gave him HBR.
Sal, is pleased with Memed and annoyed with us. Is that a problem? Should we give Sal tech to get to Cautious?
I was going to get Istanbul before I went to bed, but now I'm going to wait for responses on this. I would give him Currency to be safe. Probably good to get him off annoyed anyway.

I guess I can get Istanbul anyway. We just need to decide on the currency gift before the end of turn.

Yes for the currency gift.
We'll get an additional -1 for declaring war on Mehmed, but he'll still be cautious.

I'm starting to worry about our money (again). We have less than 4 turns left. Istanbul will buy us 1t. Lisbon 1t. etc. but we can't expect to conquer 1 city per turn. And even if we did, that's not enough. We'll be over 100 gpt next turn. I think once we have a Lisbon army, then our West cities need to do Moai every turn. I'm stopping for the night and I'll look into getting Moai in somewhere ASAP tomorrow before playing past Istanbul.

I'm going to send the spy that stole Theo to Oporto to steal Joao's money after Lisbon falls. Any other bright ideas?

It's still a "what's the long pole?" question. If it's conquest, then I'm not so worried about spending some turns at 0% so long as we reach Banking in time for our golden age.

On the other hand, we could spend any extra gold on knight upgrades. This might even be worth diverting a GM. So if you can get efficient failgold I'd say go for it - especially if it includes Stone City's forests, for instance.

Lisbon also has a few villages to pillage, which should buy us a turn or two.

pillage villages, check
Istanbul has one, I could also destroy one mine and we can still pop borders in 1t. Or just leave the mine?
