SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

agree we go via Gandhi.

RE: worker-galley: I'm going to take it to Darius for the war assuming the timing is right. The missionaries can hoof it (assuming I clear out Jerusalem/Istanbul), or maybe get a boat ride later. We have almost no use for religion until T115.
Some early missionaries could fogbust?

Are we committing to Islam and the AP victory in general?

Aside from Russia, there are 31 remaining AI cities, with none more than 5 cities. This crowded map has nerfed them severely. Warring straight through would yield us capture gold and possibly enough workers to rail in 1t. Are we trying to keep AIs for the TRs for our tech pace? Only London and Canterbury yield 3gpt. With GLH coming up, maybe we should grab England ( +1:) per city with SH). We'll also need Oporto to settle Spice Island and a 4th island city, maybe near London.

Then we don't need Theo and don't need to wait to kill off Hatty for Theo.

conquest is still attractive. I hate trying to time the AP vote. I guess we should decide b4 we make missionaries, but I suppose we don't need to commit even then.

Anyway, tomorrow, I'll try to put out a plan to at least roll a turn or two. I'm out for the night.

Fredburg
It's all set to whip this turn and finish Axe T92 which goes to Munich defense for the Memed DoW.

Furcity whips and builds a chariot T93. Also gift to Hatty.

CEB starts HA this turn, but then it will whip and waste ~12h when gifted to Hatty. We could use those hammers to make an elephant instead of HA, but the HA will be better at Lisbon and then needs to run all the way east. Seems way more useful than Phant.

Paris : HA, whip HA (lisbon)

Thebes : Missionary

Alexa. Library : either 5->3 whip it in 4 turns (no overflow) or set it up for a 6->3 whip--Library is delayed 2 turns (10 bpt). I guess I'll do the the former, but we have time to change my mind

SQ: don't whip this turn, then whip HA.

Athens doesn't need the granary just get. Considering:
Axe, whip Axe T92 (head to Munich) Could also come in handy at Edirne and Persep if we lose more than normal units at Istanbul
ZPV pointed out the great tiles we need to work once Jerusalem is ours. No whipping.

trade Darius' corn for our cow.

I think I covered enough to start when I get approval unless there are areas I missed.

Athens: Please don't whip it. It's really hard to regrow. This city should be size 3 with a granary, lighthouse and almost full food bar, the moment we capture Jerusalem.

Alexa: Ideally we don't want to whip it below size 5. 6->4 might be ok, but anything smaller than that costs us more in food/turn than the cheaper pop growth gains us.

CEB: There's no point recapturing it at anything more than size 2 because the cows will be unowned for 2 turns (too close to London, even though it's on a different continent).
I don't see an easy use for an elephant either (unless we make it amphibious for London :p)

Looks good, WT :)

I thought the same thing on Alexa's size, but then I figured the earlier library was a bigger deal.
20 beakers? Are you still against 5->3, cus I could go 6->4

Athens: good point. Size 3 for the 3 clams, and then the sheep too.

Fair enough. If I had an immediate use for the extra food I'd protest it a bit more, but the only thing I can think of is building a settler for Gold City, which really feels very ugly in a city with just floodplains.

Fur City: Is that chariot needed for Lisbon? It could be a work boat for Canal City instead.

scout: any reason to try and see more of the Orient? Scout Mongols and Russia? or just murder the scout?:backstab:

Scout the Mongols and Russia, I guess. That'll help us decide whether conquest is doable. Maze-like terrain would point me towards AP.
Russia or England (presumably Russia) would be the vassal in that case.

I'm going to grow Thebes on missionaries for 4t to size 7, then settler, (borders expand) 3-whip settler. Work 4 fish. That can settle goldcity T101 with gold connected T104. So one worker remains behind in the south. Based on that, I'm thinking one other worker can farm Alexa and road to Jerusalem (only 3t needed) and work there or walk to Istanbul. Saves the 2nd boat trip and allows the galley to get to Darius in a more timely manner.

edit: changed my mind. We only delay the galley just 1t and can move 2 extra workers north where they're needed more.

I'll probably not road to gold city and settle 1t later T102, but the point of this msg is that I started to worry about barb defense and/or fogbusting the south. I think the right thing to do is fogbust instead of fight them off. Or do they stop spawning?

I don't know how much land is down there, but I hope is can be busted by just a couple units. We have a GS that we can (carefully) use.

Just realized Thebes will have a missionary in 2t and it needs a ride on the south galley since the limit is 3. So I guess I will leave 1 worker in the south after all. 1 sacrifice and 3 transfer north.

I'll be dropping the 1st miss near Athens (shortest boat ride), but where to spread?
Athens could fail, and we need to do a wonder or two there, so not good for missionaries.
Paris or Hamburg cannot fail and we can make more missionaries there.
Paris has a rax/stable, so maybe Hamburg gets first spread and does some missionaries.

Munich:
We chop 3 forests ASAP into granary, workboat, yes? The food bin will be half full in 4 turns.

Canal City:
We can force borders to pop in 6 turns. That gives us a chop. Granary completes by using CopperMine. Then workboat.
The only other chop is shared with Athens. I think we need that for wonders, right?

More cottages at Paris? Or farms? so we can give shared cows and deer away occasionally?
This is the only thing I need to decide in order to roll the turn. I've made all the moves T91 except the worker near Paris.
I'll break until tomorrow.

Farms now. New cottages won't reach village status by our golden age, but do try and work the ones we've got a little.
