SGOTM 23 - Turbo Ants

We might want to consider subbing out Munich in the GP plan for someone else. Fredburg? Jerusalem--has no grass farms.
Munich might have trouble stealing back the other Deer and it has no way to get a farm to help grow either.

Finally uber-microed everything and started...

T99 continued from here

Cancel OB with Joao
Stalin: Col for 40 + cancel deals with Memed.

T100
 with Sal's Islam missionary in Munich, Judaism spreads...not Islam. His other missionary is standing in CanalCity rt now.
edit: and his 3rd is south of Jerusalem

Memed's entire stack of 4 is lost on Istanbul . One of our axes even survived without a scratch. I assume he never saw battle. The C1shock maybe fought twice...I didn't look closely.

Mao will trade silk. We take it for wheat.

Edirne
So we're up against spear, archer, archer, chariot

we have 7 HAs

We've got one monster C3shock HA. I debate sending him at 48% or using a C1 at 27%
I normally go with the C1, but C3shock is 13/20 xp, so it won't promote soon. I figure why not use the shock while the spear is defending.
Then I finally conclude that the injured spear will eventually be the defender again later and we can use the C3shock on him.
So, long story short, I go with the C1.
Spoiler :
C1 wins!not withraw, win.

We have C3's and C1's.
HAs are so awesome... the C3 is only ~78%, so...
C1 (71%) against CG1archer wins!

Oh, we also have a C2...it had 4xp...I forgot that's 2 promos
This time I choose the C3 (79%) because the 3xp looks better there than on the C2.
I'm worried we had too much luck so far this turn, and we'll lose one of our best HAs....
Spoiler :
nope, C2 wins!

All that's left is the chariot for a complete shutout...
I gotta go with the C3 (98%) for 2xp and a promo
Spoiler :
Wins...and 123 :gold:
And now for the buildings that survived....
Spoiler :
Granary!!
He didn't whip the city, so it's size 5.

Wow, that went so well, that our units could be ready for Persepolis before our boats are there.
plenty to pillage around Edirne.
We get 40:gold: for 5 cottages. (10 + 10 + 4 + 14 + 2)

:assimilate: We successfully amphibiously attack the chariot/worker at Yaro (70%)
Our 15th worker (making up for the sacrifice earlier)

Churchill is Pleased w/Joao, so...
Churchill: CoL for 20:gold: and +2 diplo (Pleased) We'll see how he feels after this...

btw, we capture 16th worker when we DoW Joao.

T101
Mao will trade Rice. Suddenly he also needs fish. Done.

I don't know why, but I didn't anticipate J's Axe going NE towards FurCity . I just wanted no chance of failing at Lisbon.
Anyway, he is still 2 tiles away and, assuming things go well at Lisbon, we can have 2 chariots on him and even a backup HA T102.

Barb archer killed in the south. The whole area is completely fogbusted. I suppose an already spawned unit could be in the fog.

Lisbon
C1 has 10% to win + 18% retreat. We get a retreat! (sword to 4.1)
Our C2 gets a huge jump point (71%) and kills Archer
GG is born.
nakedHA goes at 43% and retreats! archer (0.8)
We are truly blessed these last 2 turns.
Spoke too soon. Our nakedHA (65%) loses to sword (now 1.0)
cleanup 99+%
cleanup 99+%

126 :gold:

Joao never added a single unit to the city during my whole turnset (archer, archer, sword) thankfully.
Even with good luck, we used every single HA because of the 2 retreats (edit: oops, no we have 1 spare) . (two chariots could have handled the cleanup, but they're going to move on the roaming axe. ) So our 9 unit army was a pretty good call. Very safe, but not overkill.

I had a crazy idea which probably won't be put into action, but I thought I'd share...

I thought maybe if Edirne lost all it's buildings and was the right size, we'd give it to Joao, recapture to reduce the size to get marble 1t sooner. But we have the granary, so probably no go. And I can't recall rt now if reducing it from 5 down to size 4 would shorten revolt. I think so, cus it's 5t now, so it would be 4t. Anyone want to gamble the granary for faster marble? (edit: no, it's still 5 turns)

Maybe we should. The city is going to starve anyway.

I'll tidy up the game but wait for the Joao DoW until tomorrow morning.

I wouldn't do the Joao city gift without testing. If I read the code right, it's still 5 turns at size 4.
It's (3+0.5*pop)*(a discount if we have some city culture)

yea, I was afraid of that. I know it needs a fact check. It still shocks me how long a city is stuck in revolt on normal speed. 5 turns at size 4!? :crazyeye:

edit: tested. No-worky. I was just looking for an excuse to go to bed. playing on...

I forgot to mention that due to our 8-0 win-loss this turn, Memed will CF.

I assume we should do that.
I originally planned to take Memed's 2nd worker. Now, it's guarded by a chariot, so I was going to skip it because even if we win, we'd probably get attacked and lose both.
But now, if we win, we can teleport both units out. Seems like it's worth the 70% gamble.
Also, our 5/8 xp HA would get +3xp.

I forgot to include the effect of GLH on our tech rate. We will probably shave a turn off and get Banking/Philo T112, so we should think hard about getting our cities to the right size. I'll try not to whip anything (try). We can study the city sizes after I end my turnset (today)

final study before DoW on Joao. Churchill is pleased with Joao.
Church is Cautious with us.

Sell him CoL for 20? that should be the only tech Joao could bribe him with.
And it should get Churchill to Pleased I think. Assuming we get to +4 fair trade, he'd be +4 total with us after the -1 for DoW.

I need to take a break for an hour. If no response, I'll just do the above.

Yes, CoL to Churchill is fine

I thought someone said we were going to renegotiate Ivory and give copper when the deal expired. I didn't do that yet. Do we really want to give Gandhi copper? He doesn't have Iron.

I won't do that. I may want to redo the deal anyway to get some sheep in there and get +1 gold, but it can wait for next turn.

Yup, that was me. Ivory is very expensive, as resources go. Now that he's up our hit list there's no reason to give him copper and we have plenty of resources to trade. I wouldn't touch that deal if I were you. It might cost us 4 resources this time.

Khan doesn't even have writing. We can get 30 gold for it, but he is church's WE and I don't want to lose our Pleased status. Maybe trade it later. Gandhi also has 30
