SGOTM 23 - Unusual Suspects

OK, if we think Mil Trad is the key to fastest victory, then we should go for music now. It would not be useful before gunpowder, but that is life.

OTOH, if we see an opportunity to take this world with muskets, ANY delAY on the gunpowder beeline is a waste. And we will make plenty of GPP, in Lisbon if nowhere else, and the last thing we would try for is a Gr Art, because that helps us nothing (except an early gold age, which we don't want/need)

So I am much more in fabvor of a Gunpowder (Musketeers are 2 move and as good as Cuirs - and if we have to go rifling we already finish 4 or 5 in the laurels race)

So artists can die. Building wonder can we forget. Whipping, drafting, buying, or building Musketeers has to be our strategy, imo- Anything that slows this down is a noob trap.

So, you recommend Mach,Guilds,GP?
We didn't take the Paper,Edu(bulb),GP path.

How are musketeers better than knights? They will make a nice pair with Guild path. Draft musketeers, whip knights, go, go, go

Gunpowder units eliminate wall bonus!

We get machinery in 2 turns, I would like to save up some gold and upgrade the the axes before we move on Istanbul.

We need 8 turns and about 650 gold to get to Music also if we want to chase it. I am beginning to think no here.

Do we chase Liberalism? Hatty is the only one really for a while that can get it and we can see her research.

RR is only 13 techs away. Mass Media is only 7 more.

agree on upgrade axe to mace. worth the price.

i think we should go for a ge once we have a forge, and bulb rr.

music only useful if we go to cavs. probably not a laurel-worthy effort.

if we task musicand fail, we can go home and cry. if we skip music and fail, we say, ok, but t could have worked. if we task music an win a ga, and still lose, we will be questioned heartily in our judgement. if we skip music and make it work, we are :ninja:

Sorry for the melodramatics, but I always wanted to use the ninja icon in context, and so I had to make the context.

Sentiment is sincere, anyhow.
:bump:

I would like to play a couple turns tomorrow Tuesday 26 July.
I won't have access to Civ between 27July and 4August

PPP two turns, until Machinery and Oporto captured

Tech Machinery
Wait for Maces to attack Ottomans
fire scientists in Paris to grow
build garrison Archers in Bordeaux, LeHavre, Nice, Lisbon, Berlin; chop Monument in Munich

What to do with new Great General?
settle? Bordeaux?
promote a stack (maybe wait for newly build units) and attach to other chariot as 2nd great medic?

I think we should go for Liberalism - either for Railroad or Radio.
And we sh kill Hatty soon as easy. OK to wait for Trebs. Then naval invasion.
Maybe Pyramids help get GE. Representation or Police State.
We sh be able to prevent any Civs from getting too close to Liberalism.

I agree with the thought of killing Hatty. However, you sound like a Trumpster being all over the place in what is rational and possible and logical. If we do all you see as necessary to wipe Hatty, we have at least 2 deviations from the primary tech line we identify, and we spend a lot of resources to get something.... what.. Liberalism which takes two (or more)tech off our tech path oT gain one tech for freee? Sorry, but a couple of techs we don't need does not speed up getting the tech we do need. It could, in many circumstances, but if the way to do it is thru attacking someone we would otherwise not attack and just steal useful tech from.... I need to see calculations that show it is the superior.

I think staying towards the bottom (military tech) of the tech tree is the best bet.

Othewrwise, I say phooey on Music and Phooey on Liberalism and lets just focus on the task at hand -- wiping a path to the Far East, and choosing our VC from there.

BTW- I forgot to say... I am GREEN on your 2t PPP to machinery.

Hey guys! I'm very sorry that I haven't been able to keep up with the game and to have let the team down in that sense. I expected to be quite busy until summer, but it's been even more hectic than anticipated. Free time has been extremely scarce and when I had it I had no energy for civ. I actually haven't touched civ in well over a month, which must be a first in the past 15 years or so.

I don't really want to formally drop out, but obviously I haven't really shown to be able to contribute either, so I'll just cheer you on from the shadows. I'll have a look later at how the game stands right now, last thing I remember is a first axe coming online. Good luck and sorry again.

@nocho
no problem
we have five weeks left; if your schedule opens up you can still take some turn sets

Thanks, Deckhand. I'll be on holidays from the next week for the whole month of August. So the schedule does open up, but being on holidays actual playing might be somewhat complicated, although should have some time during some evenings. At least I'll be able to comment a bit more.

Had a quick look at the save, you guys made terrific progress! :goodjob: Pleased to see Greece and Germany gone and Portugal about to. You will rename Oporto to Barcelona, right? ;) GLH is a nice bonus.

So what's the next step, wipe out the Ottomans and get Istanbul? I'll try to read back on the last pages but the more general approach? Here above I see wiping out Hatty, might be a good plan as she's advanced but weak. Pyramids would be great. Maybe extort some techs too. A surprise invasion force transported by galleys might work.

Green.
Tomorrow (or today depending on if it's defined by sleep or clock) I will finally be able to have a look at the save.

Will play tonight (Calif time) with Ronnie's green.

Then who is up? I think only kcd_swede and Ronnie are available.

Green!

Great to hear you are still alive nocho!

I am more with swede now on the tech path.

I think conquest on the way to RR should be doable.

I've started to make some approx. calculations for VC and GP plan according to VC. At first look it seems doable to win around turn 210 both for UN and Conq.
So in my opinion its just a matter of taste. It seems like most people likes conquest, right? If so I wont waste any time in a detailed GP plan for UN.

Even if you never open the save, you can advise with strategy. Long-term thinking and prioritizing immediate goals to get there is what we need most, at this point. Any of us can do the turnsets(loose the arrow) but aiming it requires lots of differing opinions that coalesce into a unified bullseye.:D

Even in Diplomation, the key is getting the upper hand bully situation on the world. Hatty is relatively close, so if conquest turns out faster, waiting on being belligerent to her is no big deal, and being belligerent to her early gains us little, if anything. To the far east, and see what possibilities arise!:viking:
