West Island has coastal fish at 2w of it. Plus, there's a larger landmass to the west-south-west. We see 2 plains tiles and two more to the west in the fog. I'm going to upload for discussion.

Continuing.

Persopolis: 1502 => 207h @16hpt
Stalin is not +1 Cautious with us. Darius is his WE again.

T79 900BC

Settler lands. The land mass continues on. We now see the two plains tiles, then a grass hill and a grass tile, then what looks like desert and grass, and beyond that maybe three longitudinal tiles. To the north, we see 5 water tiles without seafood. I guess we leaped, now we go on. I've started moving our dog from 2COrn toward COwCity in case we decide to defend a city there.

Persepolis: 1618 => 223h @16hpt
We've spotted no marble or stone yet, exploring all but Darius' newest city, which will have to wait a few turns while our chariot heals. Too dangerous down there if a barb archer appears. Maybe he's trading someone for it.

T80 875BC
Maint at -27g. 13+10+3+1 city+civic+unitcost+supply. Treasury: 170g.

Success! There is a clam tile and a whale tile
Persepolis: 1735 => 239h @16hpt
We finally have 5 TRs!!! All with Darius.
We can now redo the horse deal with Darius. We have deer we can use instead of fish or clams. I can only see Darius having a clam available currently and it's not netted. maybe Darius canceled his fish deal with some AI so he could get marble or stone instead?

Taking a break ad UPLOADING. Take a look-see. Our settler has options. We don't even need to settle for 2 turns (GLH) at least so we could go w-nw safely and see what's over there. We might want to settle 1w of the grass hill for even more goodies.

If we settle the single-fish island, as planned, it's 8 tiles from our capital. If we try for the next one (assuming it's actually an island and not a trick -- actually connected to our landmass), we could settle at 9 or 10 tiles from our capital and possibly get more than just one fish. That's not a horrible maintenance hit. The problem is, that will delay settle our second island fro t83 to t85. What to do?

This is the price of late exploration... :)

Edit: Also, by settling on the farther island, we could get the fish in the first ring, unless choices force us otherwise.

yea, not sure how you got OB.
We weren't WEs before. It somehow has to do with the hidden minuses that STalin has for Darius. Deep down he hates him. :D

Then again, if Stalin hadn't been WEs with Darius, we wouldn't have gotten the negmads and I think he'd be Cautious with us. That will happen soon enough when we lose the last negmod for trading with his former WE. ha

Not a big fan of 1 fish. If it at least had a shared clam or something. I'm leaning towards pass on the single tile island.

I guess it makes sense to take the better site, if we're willing to risk losing our settler to barbs. :eek: Looks like we could settle on a ph, get the fish in teh first ring and have some sort of a grass tile plus whatever else.

Or is that a grass hill? MMy screen resolution is not good enough to see it well.

It's a hell of a lot better than zero seafood, since its main purpose is GLH offshore TRs.

If there were no barbs, it'd be a no brainer in my mind. We'd go west. I'm imagining marble, copper, horses, etc. over there. And more food. A couple turn delay in settling is not a big deal. I thought we were going to have 2 galleys but I see how one is almost enough. Again, I don't mind a delay in the north settler. What if we find 2 great sites in the west? The 3fish settler could run west. North is another gamble.

All true.

Hmmm.... may not be an island after all. Not sure we should explore with a naked settler...
Our settler can go to the grass tile to see all the coastal tiles down there, and is safe unless there's a barb right there, in which case he can retreat. He'll also be able to go to the hill safely at that point. No point in settling many tiles farther west, so that's the decision point, I would think.
