SGOTM 9 - Wacken

Hmm, lets see about that BG. I said it could be done without one because i succeeded sharing the cow during my turnset. Might be that i started with 6 food in the box or something that made it possible for a cycle or 2.

I see however that you are correct. Delaying settlers by doing a warrior is IMO not an option. We must mine another BG.

What did city on flood plain do for disease exactly ? How does it compare to working a flood plain?

City placement looks OK in Xeviuos picture. First settler goes 1N next to the other dot on that river. The two exiting the factory during my turns heads toward the east coast.

To give us an opportunity to really talk this through I will wait until tomorrow evening CET to play.

It looks like there is not a lot of usefull ground west of reykjavik. Besides mountains, there is one plains tile on the coast there that is not accessed by reykjavik. I don't think we want to settle another city there, it would only have many mountains and 1 fish to provide the food.

Therefore, the one on the river should IMO be settled one SW from the red dot, there were there is a red square. South of the warrior. That way, this city gains access to a few more hills. These will be very usefull with all that flood plain providing acces food.

If we would settle at the other square instead, we would miss out on a grassland that would not be used by any of the other cities.

Or do we want to settle another on on the south coast west of reykjavik ?

And yes, i do think we need more workers instead of barracks. We need them bad.
Unfortunately, it is too late for Oslo. We could either waste 2 shields, complete the barracks, or build something completely different.

Another thing i notice is the lack of luxury resources. We are gonna have a hard time in republic.

I guess we must either settle on that desert, or build a very mediocre city on the coast.

If we do not build that city between the mountains, the desert tile is a lot stronger than the red dot.

If we want quality cities, we should settle on the desert.
If we want many cities, we can settle those 2 cities.

Our position looks great, not least because I really think most of the others won't have a settler factory.

I would have thought we should build another granary or two, especially in Copenhagen, and possibly in other spots with a surplus.

If we place towns after those red dots we miss out on a grassland. So I changed the W red to 2 blue ones. Both these towns can use a FP and build workers, i reckon.

Oslo can either build an archer (which I know Wacken fully support ) or swap to granary. With a couple of chops it won't take too long.

And yeah, I was wondering how big the fliprisk is in Reykjavik? Wouldn't it be wonderful to lose that incense :) So swap that barracks to warrior, then worker.

I like that last dotmap, but with option to place that farthest blue dot a tile further away.

I think warrior-Worker in Reykjavik is a good plan.

Granary in copenhagen sounds good as well.

Oslo i am not sure about. I do not like the archer idea. Again this is not civ4. We don't need a regular archer. I'd rather even build a barracks now than a regular archer. A granary would be an option. wasting 2 shields for warrior-worker is also an option.

If we move the N blue dot one tile further away, it won't use the fp, but for pure landgrabbing I would second that idea. Is that a hill or mountain though NW of the dot?

I do not like the archer idea. Again this is not civ4.

I was joking :D. I knew the answer to that suggestion.

I think a granary in Copenhagen first, and throw away those 2 shields in Olso (or one if we use the lake) and build warrior/worker there too.

>I have no idea what is there, therefore i stated it as being an option. We should decide when we see what is behind there.

well, i think Wotan has his hands full with all these suggestions :-)
I just hope this time around we won't mess the republic slinghost.

Just lets keep in mind for future. War weariness will hit as hard when we let Indians to capture our cities. and since they won't be able to do it fast WW will drag for many turns.

[civ4] So, Who is going to start the thread in Civ4SG forum and we play a little SG game in Civ4 of our own. Once we have our thread running we can discuss rules, difficulty level and civilization. I can do it if at least few of you can commit to yet another game.

I'm sick of hearing of civ4 in this thread, start the damn thread over there now!

Well, I'm not that annoyed really. I understand it sucks, the grafix are foul and no warmongering from the AI anymore?

That, plus I won't be able to play it for a few months yet

And here I sat and thought I was special, what a letdown ;) I though I made my points clear forever.

Well, here they are again:

I'm here to have fun.
I ridicule anyones mechanical stands towards the game. (like Civ-Assist)
I hate Palace Jumps and ship-chaining.
I make fun of you and others now and again and take it when it comes to me.
I'm good enough to listen to and silly enough to be ignored at times :)

You are funny sometimes in your seriousness, Wacken.

Hehe, with me, most people including those that know me for years also have the problem of not knowing when i am joking :p Most of the time i am half-joking and leave it to understand the real interpretation to the listener :)

No, gozpel, i didn't mean to say anything bad about you. :)

For the civ4 thingy: I suggest we start on monarch and my prefered race is the Industrious and financial Chinese who start with mining and agriculture.

And if you want my opinion about the game so far: The graphics are not that bad, just need to get used to it.
The best games ever made in history have 1 thing in common, they have very simple rules and options, but a great strategical depth. (Chess, go, poker etc...)
Civ4 has an awfull lot of rules and options. It is vastly over complicated.

I personally am a warmongerer, and building a strong economy (trough conquest) is IMO the essence of strategy games, and that is what i play them for. It would be nice if civ4 provides the player the option to play the game in his style, so that one can play it very agressively or very culture minded if he wants. However, here is that grey meaningless puddle, you are forced to play how the game wants you to play, wich is the grey puddle with a bit of everything. The game blends eggs with coca cola and pineapple (and another dozen of ingredients maybe) all in one. You cannot choose to focus on one

Well, of course i have not played many hours yet and maybe a better game knowledge will make it nicer to play, but this is how i see it at this moment.

I desire to understand your way of gameplay, but I won't ever be your pawn.

You have a few ideas of expanding, I have others,

I'm personally also a warmonger, but with a difference. I'm a builder at heart and like to take care of that business too.

Our worlds will never meet.

Well, maybe now! I challenged WoA on a pbem.

Plans:
First settler to red dot, next settler to desert (blue dot).
Reykjavik Warrior/Worker
Copenhagen Granary
Oslo?
First built settler to east coast red dot, second probably west.

Gozpel, I hope you are not misunderstanding the comments i made. I do not think any bad about you or your game. I have send you mail and accept the challenge.
