SGOTM 9 - Wacken

Came up with another idea for gifting cities to India. If we kill off all but one city of another civ (Otto would be a good choice since we plan to do that anyway), we could ally Otto against India and the gift our cities to Otto one at a time, let India capture, rinse, repeat. This would prevent us from getting the war wearriness. The biggest problem I see is how many of these cities will flip back to us. I guess we'd have to move our capital to the other continent first to get thoses cities much closer to Delhi than our capital.

Sorry, real life caught up on me too :)

I wonder if any of the other AI's can research Engineering for us before we learn Banking and Physics? That is an option at least. (edit: I need more coffee, we need the lower path for physics of course)

Holding on to a leader for a long time, I'm not sure about that, I rather use him now. But for what? Army, palace or HE?

We need more units to take out Carthage, those pesky numerians are tough. Or we can just move slowly, if we take or disconnect their resources it's just a matter of time.

Ok, I'm ready to play. I only need directions of what we should do with the leader. I think another army would be useful.

Engineering after Astronomy and Invention asap (we have to figure out when we should use our GA). I was thinking about Navigation for a sec, I can't see a safe passage to the other continent. And when we get galleons, we can ship armies and all safely over...

Good idea!

Sorry about my low activity on this thread, RL is almost killing me now. Why is Q4 always such a race? Well, no rest for the wicked. Xmas is around the corner and that would hopefully spell some R&R.

Q4 in my company means getting a bunch of installations of computer equipment done so the salespeople can make their quotas for the year. I've got a busy few weeks ahead.

Pre-turn - Sort out some minor stuff in towns, let Trondheim borrow the good shields to cut the uni from 6 to 4 turns for example.

Send the leader to Karasjok and create a new army, fill it with 2 knights. Move some troops around.

We are building infra and settlers, one knight in production :lol:

260AD - Birka market -> knight

We kill an Otto archer.

Declare on Carthage and steal a couple of workers.

Attack Hippo with 2-knight army, kill the 2 nums and army goes 2/8 :eek:

Army kills 2 Nums in Utica, going 3/13? Geez, this was scary.
Elite horse dies outright against archer.
Elite horse 4/5 kills the archer and we take the city. Hannibal lost both his iron-sources.

They only have 4 towns left, easy at it seems, our armies need to heal before I can go on.

270AD - We learn Astronomy - Engineering at 70%, due in 4 turns.

Oslo market -> library.

Kill Carthagian archer.

280AD - Amazing, reg sword kills 2hp knight on mountain, I had 3 healed horses there :( Num dies against one of those horses.

Stockholm market -> knight.

Kill the rotten sword and 3 archers, lose another horse, got another slave.

Batsfjord founded. Rush 3 settlers for 44g.

290AD - Trondheim uni -> knight.

Another horse dies against archer, what are they made of?
Second army get a third knight, goes 4/13 kills but 2 nums and take Leptis Minor and a slave.

Set up attack on Sabratha, spot a celtic galley. Diff naval movements must be on?

300AD - Lose elite sword, kill 2 nums and sword in Sabratha, take the city and 3 slaves.

2 towns founded. Rush lib in Odense for 24g.

310AD - We learn Engineering -> Invention at 90%, due in 4t.

Odense and Karasjok build libs. Another town founded.

Hannibal founded Rusicade on the E island :rolleyes:

320AD - Birka builds a knight -> another.

A silly num moves near Hippo, intervene with army. Set up for attack on Hannibals capitol in 2 turns.

330AD - Copenhagen uni -> knight.
Oslo lib -> uni

Knight kills num trying to pillage our iron in Hippo.

Rush knight in Bodo for 44g, 2 Carthagian galleys are next to our undefended cities. Better safe than sorry.

340AD - Trondheim and Bodo - knights -> ditto. No landing anyways.

Our 2 armies take out 5 nums in Carthage quite easily and we capture it with 5 slaves.

350AD - We learn Invention -> Gunpowder in 4t at 80%.

Sell Republic to Spain for 5gpt and 54g.

We kill 3 nums and an archer in Leptis Magna, take the city and 2 slaves. The town has a harbor and we have another lux. :) Lower luxtax to zero.

There are a few units still to move, like a couple of settlers and some workers. Check happiness please, kinda forgot.

And I'm glad we have knights, those numerians are a pain.

We have 241g and make 28gpt right now, so next player can do some spending. :)

Erh, forgot to save the pic, make another one later.

Looks good! I guess we need to start our planning for "operation overlord". Where do we land? Who will be our designated "survivor/s"? To help India enter the space age... BTW, when will India start sending land units?

We have space for about 15 cities on our continent. We are producing 25 settlers.
-I will change some productions to workers for now.
-We have a decent gold income, i will use it to shortrush settlers.

I think we should wait until we can cross the ocean before we will bring battle to the other continent. That is 16 turns from now.
-I will attempt to bring home our one and only curragh so that it can bring units to the one brown island city.
-I will starting building boats for intercontinental transport in the second half of my turnset.

We need the science wonders to help our future research. Trontheim and copenhagen are probably the places to build these.
-Trontheim starts producing copernicus right away (it should have started it long ago)
-Copenhagen will start a prebuild for Newtons after its current build

I want to focus more on city improvements and growing the medium cities to size 12 in my 10 turns. Knight production can be continued after that.
-Birka, Stockholm, Bodo, Aarhus, Stavanger must build improvements.
-Forests will be made in the core, irrigation may be made for the cities that need to grow.

India doesn't even have writing yet. They are too slow in their research and might not even be ready to take our lands when we are in MA.
We need to speed them up.
We could give them contact with someone we are about to destroy, but they have nothing to offer and won't get tech from their contacts i fear.

I believe India will never send land units if Ghandi can't see a spot available for settlement.
it is probably about time to clean one of those hills on the mountain grid so he can send a settler there to build another city... I'd say we should have a road first to make life easier for him in future to "capture" our towns.
even if we give him a spot available to settle now it might take ages for Delhi to finish whatever it is building right now, then start working on settler, complete it, build a galley and then finally send it to the spot available.

If we continue playing the way we are now we perhaps will never see a single indian land unit.

Since they don't know Writing, they don't know MapMaking and there fore no galleys for a while. When they got that, they will send an archer or a spear to "conquer" us.

I think they will at least research maps before we got the techs for spaceships, not even Gandhi can be that slow :) And we have 2 eras to research before we have to worry. Just keep them in line so they don't pinch the GLib before that.

Lets take a look at it:

We are now in turn 150.
I think we can expect mostly 4 turn research from now on. We have about 30 techs to go for 120 more turns.
Since India will not have tech to build an aquaduct, library or marketplace, they have no way to improve their research. Their research constant for the exception of the growth to size 6. Assuming that took 60 turns, it means they have 60 turns of on average half research.
Take that together, and India is now at 50% of its research investment.

The have researched:
Bronze, Iron, masonry, math, construction, alpha, pottery, the wheel, Warrior, Ceremonial, mysticim. (minus the 2 they started with)

Looks to me like they surely are halfway there. They have currency, writing, horseback and poly for options now. The rng made them choose not to research writing for a long time, and it can't be long anymore.

However, there is the risk of them having nothing to build but units, causing their gold to drain on upkeep and the research to stop.

We should certainly keep an eye on their progress carefully to see if there still is progress and how fast it is going.

In order to stop their production and thus prevent them from increasing their own upkeep, we could occupy all the whale tiles in their area. As soon as we can with industrial technology, we should kill some of their units to lower their upkeep.

yep... forgot that galleys are contingent on writing->map making...

Thanx, Goz. :)

They know Construction, that hopefully means they have an aqueduct on line.

And I think we have 36 techs to go + 1 (sanitation) We do want Gandhi to have hospitals, don't we?

We can build zerks, when do we want our GA? They can also keep India's unit count down :)

Yeah, GAs... I think we need to synch our Golden Ages with the beginning of Industrial ages. Just to make sure we keep going with 4 turns research.
We also need to synch ToE build with the start of modern ages so we can receive those expensive MA techs for free.

I would have liked to build big cities with hospitals for them, but it is useless as our cities don't have the space to expand larger.

We should indeed time our ToE carefully for the very most expensive techs. Not even just the first techs in MA, just the most expensive ones.

As soon as we get to The beginning of the industrial age, we should start attacking India. It would be nice if we could get ourselves a 1 HP berserker. If we attack with that one first, we will most likely lose it and cause India to have a damaged unit.
A damaged unit will tell us when to stop attacking.

Turn 0:
Trontheim changes to copernicus.
Copenhagen changes to berzerker. I want one to take out some Indian units.
Birka - University.
Stockholm - Library.
Bodo - Library.
Odense - Market.
Stavanger - Aquaduct.
Change some settlers to workers.
Rushbuild some settlers.

MM some growth for Birka instead of unused food surplus in Stockholm.

Turn1:
Aarhus Market - harbor.
Vadso Library - harbor.
Stavanger Library - Aquaduct.

Turn2:
--

Turn3:
Stockholm Library - Uni.
boat lost in sea. New boat shortrushed.

Turn4:
Gunpowder - Chemistry.
Celts land some units, i kill them.

turn5:
Stavanger Aquaduct - library.

Turn6:
Galley destroys our boat, buy a new one.
Aarhus Harbor - University.
Bergen Uni-Knight.

Turn7:
Chemistry - Physics.
Reykjavik Uni - Market.

Turn8:
Our transport was destroyed after dropping knights near Rusicade. The knights auto-raze Rusicade but cannot leave the island.

Turn9:
An Ottoman archer moves out ot attack us. OUr 2 nearby horses are not able to kill it, so i sign peace with the Ottomans.

Turn10:
Oslo University - Knight.
Vadso Harbor - Aquaduct.

Recommendations:
-Knight production is restarting from the biggest towns who have completed their infrastructure.
-Galleys are being produced from some meaningless cities on the lake. They can leave to open sea trough Hippo.
-Build cities on food poor tiles like hills and deserts.
-Grassland has priority over plains and other terrain types for irrigating and building cities to use the tiles. Irrigeted plains are useless until railroads.
-stack the jungle cutting workers in small groups like 3 or 4 real workers.
-Bodo and Reykjavik deserve some help. When the jungles are mostly cut, we could maybe join them workers (with harbor in reykjavik) and maybe we can spend some gold on rushbuilds if it is available.
-Think about factories. We will have Industrialisation in 30 turns maximum, 22 minimum. Start prebuilds for factories in advance.
-prepare multiple boats and berserks to attack India.

For whatever it may mean in this game:
-Team Klarius seems to have chosen monarchy for this game (See QSC)
-Only CDZ matches our score, but they are far back on culture.
-Those who beat our culture are far back on score.

I think we are doing well if we can make sure India is gonna attack us when needed.
