SGOTM8 - Cutlery

Upload the save jb. Unless you want to play one more turn then upload.

[idea]

Defend the city if we can. Sign a per turn deal with them for Physics as eldar said. My experience is that they will still get hornery and attack. This will give us War Happiness and allow the Alexectomy to continue a little longer.

For the per turn deal (in case you didn't know) turn down sci all of the way then get a gpt for Physics from Japan. once they declare we'll ge that gpt back. After they declare sign up Rome (same island) against them for Music. This will hit Japan's homeland and maybe defer some troops from us.

Well, it looks like we got Music on the same turn as someone else. The only country that does not have it is Rome. And they won't trade us Physics for nothing. This is really pissing me off.
That's why I don't like researching useless techs. If you can't trade them, you get nothing.

Japan's single archer is next to an undefended city. I don't think I can make a request to leave or declare so I'm going to have to dispatch this fool with a nearby longbow.
If he's right next to a city, you probably can tell him to get out or declare. And he'll almost certainly declare.

Tubby's plan looks good to me. If we can take advantage of Japan's invasion to get Physics cheaply, that'll help a lot.

Remainder of Turn 9 - 840 AD
We can sign an ivory for wines and 8gpt deal w/ Japan and cover the exposed city. We do. Entertainment comes down a notch saving 21gpt.

We can research physics far more cheaply than for what Ceasar wants.
Music and 5pgt to Ceasar for furs. Another net savings of 16gpt.
Research set for Physics in 7.
Forces advance on Sparta

IBT: Japan lands two Ancient Cavalry next to Tatung.

Turn 10
We tell Japan to get out and they declare.
We build an embassy in Rome
Rome: 12 pop, 10spt, 12 excess fpt, 26 turns from building Magellan's, 7 of 8 luxes.
For a MA against Japan they want wines, 3gpt and some stuff. Next leader can work this w/ input.

8 of 11 trebs hit Sparta redlining all. Two elite wins, no GL, no losses.
City abandoned. Fresh troops moved towards Knossos.

There is still movement in many units.
We don't have money for rushing units to defend against Japan on the island.

The Save

NOOOOO!!! You were supposed to trade Japan for Physics!!!

Sorry had to get that out

I believe that Japan did not have physics. Let me check.

Al last check Japan had Chivalry, Nav and Demo. I guess I could have traded for one of these.

I think the best I could do was wrap them up in a 20 turn deal to see if they would kill their rep.

Oh sorry then. ;)

Those 3 cities on that island need to be abandoned. A loss of 3 cities would be horrendous in WW. I would move those two workers back Anyang before abandoning it.

There's a stack of LB's in "Not Athens" that could be sent NW to another greek city. If they don't make it then you can still follow up w/ the SoD that just creamed Sparta. And on the bright side the unit costs will have come down.

Can we shut off research for a bit to rush units on the spice island? I'd rather not abandon them all, given we're not going to get them back easily :(

The two workers were pulled back.

The AC's dropped off cut the spears retreat so I sent him towards the Japanese city in hopes of pillaging a tile or two.

Hey where did our post count go. on my screen it doesn't give our individual post counts.....

I wonder if they are doing away with them due to unneccessary SPAM.

TF turned off post counts. Go check Site Feedback or OT for one of the many threads devoted to this issue. :)

eldar, I just want you to know that I am ahead of you ;)

AK said last night that he might play it last night.

And I'm still way behind all you spammers. :p

:hmm: Don't see it, at least in this thread. Besides, we need a new roster every three pages or so. :)

It was on MSN chat

OK. But now we all know. :)

And I forgot to respond to this earlier....

My first inclination is to agree. But my second thought is, how much are those cities really contributing to our empire? Aside from a foothold for an eventual invasion, they're almost worthless (though it might be nice if we can eventually get those spices). If we lose them, then we'll just have one more landmass to invade from the sky (and not a terribly difficult one, since it's not anybody's home island).

So I'd try to keep the island cities if we can, but I don't think it's worth going to extreme lengths.

Without a post in over 24 hours my hands began to shake...

We need to try and keep a toehold on that island just to have a shot at the spices. Then again, our gambits for a future payoff have not turned out too well. Perhaps we should pillage the road into town to slow the AC's in the jungle. The city closest to the spices is a lost cause. Abandon it.

Regarding cities in the north... I packed the new cities into a CxxC configuration and irrigated everything to grow population for research centers. Remember that a library also compounds the scientists so in addition to the culture a lib should be able to provide a payback for research.

The spices are probably worth fighting for. Not sure anything else on that island is.

That's a good strategy for now. But if we eventually go commie, having lots of small cities isn't necessarily a great idea. At that point, we'll probably want to disband some of the northern cities.

Remember that a library also compounds the scientists so in addition to the culture a lib should be able to provide a payback for research.
Actually, that's not true. A library only affects the base commerce produced from a city. So it's pretty much worthless (at least as far as research goes) in a corrupt city.

Correct for the lib not boosting specialist beakers

I'm about half done. We've lost our toehold on the island. I've gifted Julius 2 cities and ragnor 1. the good news is that we have physics and are working on ToG (lizzie beat us there, again) I'll probably have to stop the alexotomy due to WW. don't worry we can go back and finish him in 20. I'll try to get us back on the tech table.
