SGOTM8 - Own

Rather fast-paced all of a sudden. Thought I might have had a day or two to report in. I'll take it at this point if you guys want.

@Symphony D

Please do it. OWN has skipped and I'm not going to able to touch it before the weekend. Lotta RL :(

Affirmative. It'll be up tomorrow.

I'm off on holidays now [party] getting back on 2/10 - will try to look in if I can find internet access, but I wont have civ :(

Good luck playing - go get em :ar15:

Enjoy.

Roster.

Symphony D - got it.
Own - skipped
Abegweit - on deck
Andronicus (skip 24/9-2/10)
Istari Asuka

Alright, I'm a tad bit behind, but I will say that it will be up in the next 12 hours. Pretty decent thusfar.

[EDIT] Argh. Stuff has come up. If it's not up today, it will be tomorrow. Sorry for taking so long. Job hunting sucks. :(

TURNLOG:
Turn 00 / 850 AD - Preflight: Noticed many cities in the far north already converted to scientists, inhibiting growth beyond 1 or 2 pop. Took them off science with no impact on research time. Rush a courthouse in 11 for 100 something gold. Change remaining worker cities to Knights. Begin micromanagement. Start with 01 - prebuild from 19 to 17. 05 from 28 to 22. 11, El Culture Bomb, and 13 maximized to grow (river access). Cleveland and 15 maximized to grow (river access). San Diego, 17, Beijing, 19, and Tacoma maximized to grow (river access). Santa Fe and Athens maximized to grow (river access). All size 6 cities seem to be at no growth when efficient to do so (some instances where excess actually more efficient). Manage to keep Electricity in 2 turns, increase GPT to 78. I hate MMing; guess I'll take it out on the Greeks. IBT lose 1x Longbowman near Eretria. Trade deal with Rome expires. They'll only accept it again if we toss in Magnetism and won't accept gold, world maps, or anything else. Given our current happiness situation we can't really afford the hit. Give them Magnetism to continue the deal. Could get an Alliance against the Greeks but no point.
Turn 01 / 860 AD - Ephesus riots. Turn off growth and shuffle off a unit to kill Eretria. Kill 1x Longbowman near Eretria. Railroad construction lowers prebuild time in 01 to 15 turns. Kill 1x Longbowman near Mycenae. Lose 1x Longbowman at Mycenae - opt to assemble strike-force in full before resuming assault, will attack next turn. MMing yields 85 GPT with Electricity due next turn. IBT complete Electricity, research Scientific Method.
Turn 02 / 870 AD - Rush Longbowmen Rhodes, Ephesus and Thessalonica. Bombardment of Mycenae is mediocre. Kill 1x Hoplite at Eretria, get 1 gold, autoraze the city. Kill 2x Hopelite, 1x Longbowman at Mycenae, capture 1x Settler. Serious MM time. Can reduce Research to 70% and still get Scientific Method in 4 turns. Messing with taxmen keepts SM at 4 turns and improves GPT to +260. Now that's more like it!
Turn 03 / 880 AD - Move forces into position to attack Herakleia next turn. Lose 1x Longbowman near Mycenae. Kill 1x Hoplite near Mycenae. Rail progress good, expect to have most of it finished by the end of my turnset. Shift Greek cities to Spearmen - cheap, better than Warriors or Longbows for defense; we have all the aggressive units we need there. Need MPs before starting Settler production. At +257 GPT and 3 Turns.
Turn 04 / 890 AD - Kill 2x Hoplite, 1x Longbowman, capture 1x Worker, 1 Gold, take Herakleia, no casualties. Rush Spears in Rhodes, Ephesus, Thessalonica, and Mycenae. Bulk of Army healing up in Herakleia for final assault on Argos, estimate move in either 1 or 2 turns (depending on force size). Notice Greeks have founded Troy on another island. Bother. At +272 GPT and 2 Turns.
Turn 05 / 900 AD - Kill 1x Hoplite near Herakleia. Build lots of railroads. Steady at +275 GPT and 1 turn. IBT Romans refuse to renew Silks deal unless we pay them. They're in the Industrial age, but not by much. Offer Gems, 283 Gold, 20 GPT, and WM for Silks. Rather outrageous. Will have to remember to hurt Caeser later. Oh well, at 200 GPT. Complete Scientific Method. Since we'll be getting Atomic Theory and Electronics from TOE, I shoot for Replaceable Parts. It takes some MMing and our big economics ride is over, but I manage to get it down to 4 turns at +9 GPT.
Turn 06 / 910 AD - Shift 01 to TOE and 05 to Universal Suffrage for Hoover prebuild. Due in 06 and 07, respectively. Move forces for assault on Argos - decide bartering for Troy and having to wait 20 turns to not be worth it. Rush Harbor in Ephesus. Some MMing gets us at +19 GPT and 4 turns. Sell the Chinese Theology for 15 Gold and a World Map. IBT kill 1x Longbowman near Argos.
Turn 07 / 920 AD - Ephesus completes Harbor, Greek Island now has lux access. Kill 2x Hoplites, capture 2x Workers, 12 Gold, take Argos. Offer Greeks peace for Navigation, 2 GPT, and 1 GP (41 Gold total). Sell Navigation to the English for WM, 1 GPT, 51 GP (71 Gold total). At +27 GPT and 3 Turns.
Turn 08 / 930 AD - 02 completes Factory; put it on Musketmen to be upgraded to Infantry for wont of anything better to build. Move some units. At +28 GPT, 2 Turns.
Turn 09 / 940 AD - Buffalo and 04 complete Factories, both on Banks. At +34 GPT, 1 Turn. IBT complete Replaceable Parts, go for The Corporation. Due in 4 turns at +230 GPT (50% Science - hah).
Turn 10 / 950 AD - Strangely at +233 GPT now. Probably from that random WLTKD. Worker tasks on the mainland are pretty much all done; plant some forests and put barricades on random fortresses to burn their turns. Holding at +233 GPT and 4 turns.

NOTES:
Main priority in the near future should probably be populating the Greek Island with cities (see screen). TOE will finish in 2 turns, can snag both Atomic Theory and Electronics with it, then convert the Suffrage prebuild into Hoover and finish next turn. I advise getting to Flight to work on Bomber and Infantry forces before going for Advanced Flight. Bombers and Infantry will be pretty crucial for establishing beachheads with Helicopters - bomb the area into submission then dump the Infantry by copter. Tanks will only really be useful once we secure beachheads and can put in Airstrips. We can begin to churn out some Infantry in the meantime. I'd say a force of 30 Infantry for 10 Helicopters would be a minimum ballpark. Our core is starting to get factories online and with Hoover in 3, should be easy to set this up.

Unsure what to convert all the Knight prebuilds in the north to - either Infantry or Libraries I guess. If Libs, we can cut down on science and convert a large number of specialists to taxmen to rush further military development. If Infantry, we'll have a good standing pool of troops by the time Helicopters roll around after some cash-rushing. Advise looking into Communism after securing Helicopters - maybe not though, since Commies can't cash rush. Regardless, we have enough time until Helicopters that once we get it, we should be able to knock AIs down like dominoes.

Turn Log:

Preflight:
Shifted around production in 01 and 05, such that TOE finishes the same turn as The Corporation--otherwise we'd be wasting turns of research.

New Greek lands rush some workers.

960 AD:
Purchase some harbors on coastal cities with slow growth, begin joining workers to them.

Begin mass irrigation of Greek island.

970 AD:
Various purchases and city joinings.

980 AD:
Very little.

990 AD:
Finish The Corporation (took 4 turns)

Finish Theory of Evolution.

Obtain Atomic Theory and Electronics from TOE.

I realize that our team (myself very much included) is IMMENSELY CLEVER! When going to 05 to change the prebuild to Hoover, I notice that I can't! Since 05 doesn't have a river! Very smart. So I set 01 to build Hoover (17 turns), and just have 05 build suffrage. What a waste of time. This is a huge setback.

Set research to Refining (4 turns) @ 100 sci, -12gpt

1000 AD:
Greek area is coming along nicely. Cities are growing. First settler pops next turn.

Trade Physics to Greeks for 97GP and 26(ish)GPT

Trade Physics to Japanese for 85GP

1010 AD:
Not too much...

1020 AD:
Rome GPT deal runs out, trade them Medicine for 135GPT + 28GP + Military Tradition.

1030 AD:
Finish Refining (took 4 turns).

Japanese lux deal runs out, trade them Magnetism for 2GPT + 12GP

Set research to Steel (4 turns) @ 70 sci, +168GPT

1040 AD:
Not too much...

1050 AD:
Not too much...

For the next player:

Rome is willing to give us quite a lot of money in exchange for steam power.

Good work Symphony D - looks like you you spent a lot of time on the MM

I am unable to see all the details but it sounds like we may have a big tech lead over the AI.
I wonder whether we could go ASAP to helis and hit them with the best units we have (the weakest first and the strongest last once we have tanks). That way we might be facing no better than rifles (and maybe not even these ?) with at worse infantrymen and soon after tanks (airlifted with rushed airports to airfields). Of course all this would change if AI has infantrymen in which case bombers assume much greater importance. It just seems to me like the Romans are the only ones who might research anything - if we stop supporting their research with favourable gpt trades might we even be able to face the AI pre Nationalism and unable to draft (or am I dreaming? ).

I can imagine us sending the first 1 or 2 heli loaded with settler and infantry to Jap territory -> dow and settle on a hill, absorb their puny units (? samurai), then airlift backup which should quickly take out Japs before proceeeding to Romans by which stage we may have just researched tanks - meanwhile similar beach-heads on Vike and English islands. The Chinese and any stray islands could be taken at our leisure with 1 heli load.

This would allow us to start conquest as soon as discover helis, with addition of tanks +/- bombers speeding us up against AIs giving the most resistance. This should allow us to finish ASAP - maybe not that long away.

05 will be ready for Theory of Evolution wonder once we get Scientific Method, we that'll pop us 2 free techs immediately.

01 is currently building Women's Sufferage as a prebuild for Hoover.

Dont be so hard on yourself - I thought you made it clear in the quoted post above.

Nevermind whats done is done, it does not affect our science race as we get the same free techs at the same time - just delays Hoovers and our productive capacity for a while - but should be up to speed by the critical time we want to build our invasion force. Universal Suffrage is not completely useless in Rep so I guess there is a silver lining :D

Yeah, I think I got the two switched because:

and I just ran with it without thinking.

On the plus side we have a billion WLTK days now that we have suffrage. :P

Yeah, I totally didn't notice that. I thought "Gee, I could finish TOE now in 05... but then Hoover would take longer in 01..." and just set it up the other way without thinking. My fault. :(

So, two man team! I guess I got it then, try and get it up tomorrow. Hopefully we won't finish before the rest of you guys get back. :p

I've got most of my turns done. Been kind of a harsh week. Will post it tomorrow.
