We've got a chance at second I think.

Actually I think Klarius finished 1090AD, Wacken 1160AD, Chunky 1350AD and CDZ 1445AD. We will do well if we beat 1445AD I think.

Japan is toast
We have a leader who has formed an army (for next player to fill):band:
England has Nationalism but is split in 2 and offerring little resistance
Vikings throwing a few zerks at us but falling steadily
Chinese 1 city (at peace, we gained their other in peace treaty)
Cavalry poised to take Greece
Rome remains our main challenge but we have good tank production and with bomber backup victory is assurred - just a matter of when.

Turn log

http://gotm.civfanatics.net/saves/sgotm8/Own_SG008_AD1320_01.SAV

Current strength
29 bombers
53 tanks
33 infantry
3 cav
1 army
7 helis

In vikeland - 12 bomb, 10 tank (2e), 8 ing (1e)
In England - 8 bomb, 10 tank (5e, 1*), 8 inf (3e) - *tank could be airlifted to JO next turn for use in army
In Japland - 7 bomb (+2 in South Is), 21 tank (4e), 6 inf 1e), 1 empty army

Have 827 gp left to buy more units this turn - I have left decision on whether bombers (rush in exGreek Is) or tanks (mainland corrupt cities) up to next player - 1 bomber and 7 tanks already due.

Tanks on home island are protecting core cities against zerk attack - cheaper to rush some infantry to free up these tanks and later those infantry can be airlifted to small enemy islands (in groups of 3 usually enough).

Luxuries - currently have only 3 and import 2 more from Rome - this will of course soon change.
I suggest keeping Kagoshima (should capture next turn) for its ivory - following turn Jap will be destroyed so little flip risk.
Once Nottingham razed can settle colony on insense.
Spices avail on Greek island - req colony and roading to it
Later can use Rome's luxes after conquoring

No WW weariness yet - having Uni. Suff appears to have been a good get :mischief: .

Roster
Abegweit - up now
Istari Asuka - waiting
Symphony D
Own
Andronicus

I dont expect to see another turn - perhaps we'll finish in 2-3 more turnsets

Agree we need to attack Rome ASAP - that will be the time limitting factor.
Should we get any more leaders I suggest heli-lifting them to JO for the Roman campaign. I think England and Vikeland are almost managable with current units allowing extra units to go directly fight Rome. I reiterate suggestion of some infantry to replace tanks guarding core cities allowing those tanks to do something more useful.

Edit
Forgot to mention. Worker stacks have been systematically foresting / chopping / reiirigating in lines from the NW to SE. Currently next tile due to be worked is SW of most SWern stack. If you're really keen you could check an old screenie to see which were previously forested - I admit I was too lazy to do this so didnt get full return from chops. Still worth approx 1 tank per turn in shields which accounts for almost 20% of our tank production.

I'll be gone for weekend - hopefully I can read up on the progress on Monday
Good luck all and have fun

Looking good, I'm looking forward to (hopefully) finishing up this war during my set. Great job Andronicus!

Good luck Abegweit! :goodjob:

My apologies for taking so much time to post my turns. Real-life intervened. I am still not finished but the wars are going very well. Kudos to those who set this up so very nice. It has become clear that the limiting factor is not the Roman conquest but rather conquering all the little islands everywhere. I have been trying to get to together teams to take them out. In consequence, I have switched from tanks to infantry and bombers.

Here is the story to date:

Pre-flight check: looks pretty good. Nice setup. We are ready to break out everywhere. :goodjob:

We will be moving infantry back home for protection and to take out the little islands while the tanks head to the fronts. Four infantry move back home and all the tanks leave immediately. Even if we lose a city, that is not worth ten tanks sitting around idle.

Barracks are hurried in England and Scandinavia. Other micromanagement speeds up a couple of cities. The forestry jobs will be stopped. The end-game has arrived and the workers will be more useful building railroads in the English swamps.

1325 Declare war on Romans. Kagoshima razed [3-0]. Clean out Roman varmints [5-0]
Yokohama razed. [7-0]. More varmints [19-0] Oslo taken [20-0] Nottingham [23-0] English varmint [24-0] Edo [27-0]
[inter-turn] Vikings take Chinang. I forgot about that. Grrr! A leader comes on defense in Oslo! [28-0]
1330 Shantung [31-1]. Trondheim [34-1] Arhus [36-1] Odense [38-2] One HP Musket defeats a full-strength Infantry! Dover [40-2] Brundisium [44-2] and another leader! Osaka [47-2] Hastings [49-2] Various varmints [55-2] Syracuse [58-3] Lugdunum [62-4] Another varmint [63-4] Izumo [65-5]
1335 Nagasaki [68-5] Japanese destroyed. Odense [60-5] Bergen [64-4] 4/4 tank loses to 2/4 Musket! Varmint [65-4] Stavanger [67-4] More varmints [71-4] Neopolis [72-4] York [74-5] Varmints [76-5] Sign peace treaty with Liz in exchange for Brighton on the island to the north of England. The treaty will, of course, be violated. Declare war on Chinese. Attack on Kaifeng [77-5]

At this point we have overrun Scandinavia, are about to take out the English and totally rule the Romans.

Good progress
Just a question re happiness - could we build a colony on ivory in former Kagoshima (reinforce with infantry) to allow greater income (and more cash rushing).
Edit - also incense colony in England
The key to the islands is to have mobile teams of 3 inf and 1 heli with bomber support - land infantry, bomb to redline and inf will take out easily. If keep city one turn can rebase heli to captured town, load up infantry and rebase elsewhere for next island town (then raze to prevent flip or Chinan scenario - I should have razed it after getting it in peace treaty)

Edit 2 - the slightly bigger islands can be sped up by iairlifting a worker with infantry support to vacant tile (or use tile after razing 1 city) then tanks can be airlifted.
I still feel Rome may be the slowest as they have riflemen, large cities and the northen tundra is forested. If a secondary strike force could land to take out their most northern city when half way through the Roman campaign it may well speed things up a turn or 2

I played some more last night. Almost finished 1345 and we have started the assault on Roma. We now have three armies in Roman territory and one in England. I disbanded a fifth army in Scandinavia for a bomber :crazyeye:

China is gone. Scandanavia is down to two cities. Both Greece and England have been reduced to one. I'll try to get a screenie up at noon and finish this off tonight.

@Andronicus. You were right. The limiting factor is the Romans. I'll try and figure out if it isn't possible to get a base in the far north per your suggestion.

Andronicus, how do I set up an advance base in the north? Do I have to take a city or is it sufficient to copter in a worker and create an airfield?

Cant build airfield in enemy territory.

Suggest position 2 helis with 5 inf and worker at Denver. Next turn airdrop inf and worker 1 tile south of Rome's most northern city and ensure sufficient bombers to redline maybe 3 or 4 max riflemen are within range of this town. Following turn capture (dont raze or may lose cultural control over tiles to Romans) northern city, build airfield on southernmost accessible tile and airlift in a doz tanks :D .

Another thing which might speed progress is using combat settlers - there is an excellent article in war academy - I have never really used this strat effectively but with 2 movement tanks and widely spaced Roman cities this should allow more rapid progress.

Good luck - you're making excellent progress :goodjob: - once able to airlift all our tanks to Rome they should fall rapidly = maybe only 5-6 turns left?

I tried to find a way to build an advance base and eventually concluded that brute force was a faster route than any nefarious plans. This was true. I took the entire north country in one turn. Sent in the tanks to take the anchor city and the armies to wipe out the others.

Unfortunately two successive attempts to take Caesaria failed. IMO, both should have succeeded. Damned rng  Still... I should have built up enough forces to make it would work. OTOH, I was only in range for a proper attack at the penultimate turn. At that point, I followed through with about 20 bombers and 6 infantry. That worked :mischief: Sorry if it took an additional turn.

My thanks to the people who set up this magnificient end game. Wiping out the varmints was lots of fun. :D

The end.

Well done, Team Own. Good date :goodjob: Are you plannig to upload your final save?

Check the territory graph. I think we finished fifth. Not shabby at all. :goodjob:

Great finish Abegweit :goodjob: - the last part of our teritorry graph looks awsome! I didnt see a finish date but if I read the date on your last victory screenie correctly then I think we will come 4th if we finished in 1370 (making 1375 the turn after victory save). The bad news is Team Chunky finished 1 turn earlier to nab 3rd, leaving us with a very respectable 4th.

Well done everyone.

Now to read all those spoilers from other teams :crazyeye:

PS any volunteers for a final write up?

We finished in 1365AD so apparently we tied with Chunky. That is the save I uploaded. Apparently that was the wrong thing to do. Sorry. I'll get the 1370 save up later today. I'm at work right now and I don't have it with me here.
