You may have - with varying degree of interest - watched the discussion going on about me planning to build Shakespeare's Theater in Vandelay.

Thus I would like to start the discussion felt missing by some.

IMHO one of the AIs will soon research Free Artistry making available the Great Wonder of Shakespeare's Theater. ST makes 8 content citizens in the city where it is located. Thus IMHO it is ideally build in a city with high food potential AND high shield potential, because 8 more content citizens should sustain WLTKD and thus reduce shield loss due to waste. Note that this is not a valid argument for both the Capital Deux Riviere and the Forbidden Palace city Groton, because these two by definition have minimal waste and corruption.

Why did I want to build ST in Vandelay?
- it has 6 flood plains giving lots of food
- it has 5 mountains giving lots of shields
- it can be managed to have no tile overlap with surrounding cities
- it will produce A LOT of commerce/science because it has Newton's University.

Are there better candidates? IMHO not, because both Sanction and St. Octaviansburg loose tiles due to overlap and have much less commerce/science potential.

Several questions come to mind:

  1. What will the tech cost us in trade?
  2. How long will it take Vandelay to build this wonder?
  3. How long would the next most likely city take?
  4. How long would the AI take?
  5. I thought WLTKD only applied with 100% happy -- content don't count. Does this affect the argument that the wonder has a production benefit exceeding cost?
    [/list=1]

I'm not against doing this, but for completeness sake it would be nice to have more background. Also it will get us in the habit of pulling together this information when future wonders come up.

  1. 1. We don't know til the opportunity arises. But we should get it for some tech Persia already knows from Aztecs/Zulus/Egypt.
    2. 8 turns
    3. IMHO there is no next most likely city
    4. IMHO longer, since Vandelay has factory, hydroplant, optimum management
    5. more happy than content, specialists don't count
