Much has changed from the time of the last poll, so it's time to revisit this.

We could greatly benefit from a Republic, and Democracy is near (I intend to post a poll for when we discover Democracy). We could certainly change if we wish to try to garner a tech lead rather than maintain tech parity, and either Repubic or Democracy will likely gerenate even better funds.

However, keep in mind that supporting all of our units will cut down on shield prodcution greatly. Also, happiness could become an issue as triremes and caravels outside of cities are considered military outside of their home. Finally, we have all seen what a pesky Senate can do to a war effort.

Choose wisely.

UPON EDIT: Notice that choice #1 and choice #2 both advocate changing to Republic. Should the combination of 1 and 2 beat out the others, than it shall count as a vote for change.

For example, if #1 had 3 votes and #2 has 2 votes, that counts as 5 votes for a Republic. If #3 has 4 votes, the Republic will still be counted as the winner, and option #1 would be instituted.

For the purposes of polling with regard to government changes it would be advantageous if we had a better idea of what our current situation is scientifically, and whether democracy will be forthcoming in our research. Is it a specific goal, or are we going for Invention and then Gunpowder? I realise that we can research Democracy immediately after Invention so I want to suggest this as an alternative should Gunpowder not be immediately available.
I think that the system of basing science decisions on the turn chat is contrary to the way in which the government has been run for the first 3 terms and we need to get back to the roots of our game - the people!

I believe that a switch of government form to Republic as soon as possible is vital for our advancement in this game and to show the foolish oafs who share our world that we mean business. The shields cost will be difficult, but it can be more than made up for with WLTC days and the trade boost can negate any conversion of Elvii that we may need to do initially. As many units as possible should be either sent home or "homed" in the closest cities to reduce potential unhappiness as a war with Rome will prove to be difficult until we have a better infrastructure and content citizens. I think it is time to switch to republic. Since most of our cities don´t have agueducts, We love the king days will not be that effective. Nevertheless I think we should try to get one in THDP. It has both aqueduct and colloseum and fast growth there will be very beneficial to us. Once that city has reached it´s population limit we should lower the luxury rate until we have built a suitable number of aqueducts in the other cities.

The last turn finished in 1370, so the next Oedo years are as follows:

1420
1500
1540
1580
1620... and so on, every 4 turns. We don't want to change government after this, do we? We should have Democracy by then. Remember that to take advantage of this, you have to have the revolution at the end of the turn before this date or you will get 4 turns of anarchy!!
Hope this is of some use. :D

Thanks, Duke! Those dates will certainly be helpful.

We'll have to decide what to do if we discover Democracy within a group of turns. I'm a Democracy nut (and I agree with Duke that we need to get it up in the tech queue), but we'll have to watch a few things.

In a Republic, we can get away with a bit more happiness-wise. The triremes and caravels will cause unhappiness right away in a Democracy while we'll have an easier time at least in Republic.

However, if we can get Bach's right away, then this can turn that tide and make Democracy the way to go immediately. If nothing else, Magnetism combined with Leo's will get our ships to Galleons which will NOT cause unhappiness when outside of cities. We can look to this tech as well for the near future.

As for the voting - while Republic is winning 4-0, it IS only 4 votes. I know we're down in popluation here, but surely we can get some more input...
