I assume you are talking about Nf4 but I fail to see how that could be considered such a good move as to panic... what does it even threaten? If you didn't have Nd7+ (good move by the way) isn't something like Re3 just fine?

Ah... well, I do that all the time. My opponents have a tendancy to play moves I have ruled out as unplayable. There's always that feeling of worry before it turns out they couldn't play it after all. The next step is the sweet feeling of "I told you that you couldn't play that" smugness... you know how it is. :)

I ended up losing to GatoNegro. :( In retrospect 28. ... Nh3+ was probably a bad idea. I will try to take him out in our next game.

I knew after 38. ... Rc1 he had a forced mate but could see no way to prevent it (for long) so I just went ahead with my threat (as opposed to resigning) in the off-chance he'd miss 39. Bg7+.

Sry, Mehmed, forced draws are lame (what is the forced draw, BTW?).

The forced draw is Qe5, Bd4, Qa5, Bb6, Qe5, Bd4, Qa5......... etc
He or I could possibly play something else but any other moves would cause one of us to be losing.

Sorry about your loss against GatoNegro. I haven't looked at it much but it looks like you put up a good fight.

I have some books on the opening I played. Unfortunately I don't have them with me (and had to just go with Opening Explorer).

Black generally scores well (better than in the other semi-slav games) and I've had good results also.

Basically my opponent followed a Kramink game until move 28 when I deviated (with a blunder) just to get out of the "book". I probably should have deviated earlier or maybe even later. The computer gave white only a slight edge after 28. ... Qxc6 due to the advanced a & b pawns. Kramnik won a game from this position but my opponent was not him. :D Instead of following along for a couple of more moves & then deviating and making my opponent think for himself I flailed out desperately with Nh3+, I do think I held my own fairly well for five or six more moves or so but then I fell apart, it was just a matter of time.

I hope we win the CFfF match. I'm still sore at that ManicDragon for joining & then timing out both game son top board. But I should probably can it, for all I know his mother might have died or something. :undecide:

Well, unless my analysis is way off, I'm gonna win the second leg of my Sailors games against varang. Makes me feel better about the horribly played first leg. :)

I'm also playing much better in my 2nd game but I'm not so confident about a win just yet (though I am up a pawn). Obviously I will be happy with a win but players 600 points above me have a tendency to be able to bounce back. I would have to screw up pretty bad to lose though. May the force be with us both (that & careful consideration before moving! ;)).

It's looking quite certain that urithon will beat me in game 2. :( Sorry guys!

My best win yet

a 2400+ downed in a dragon extinguished.

I'm very pleased with the middle game. 12 ..a6 is too slow in this line. He sac'd a peice for three pawns. I counter-sac'd which he couldnt accept. In the end, he was completely strangled and I can just attack g6 at my leisure.

Very nice work col! I'd love to hear closer analysis & a bit more of your thought process during the game if you have the time & inclination.

Well, I don't really believe it, but the ratings gods have lost their marbles
and for a brief time I shall feel good.

Here's the game:

And b3, a5 is now my favourite opening.

And,
- to those suspicious that my careering across the board is more opportunistic than planned ;) -
I offer the following careful analysis.

1... a5 was a truly visionary move - without it

14.... a4 would not be possible
and it was this move which directly provoked
15 f4 , which led to my d7 N reaching e5

And it was then I finally had a clue what to do....
