Thanks col, I'll be taking another look at my game with your comments in a sec.

EDIT: Thanks again, it's very helpful :D

Actually its Panzar you need to thank!

Lost to Mehmed.

According to the chess.com analysis engine (the only one I have access to ATM) my main error (apart from futzing around too much with my knights in the opening) was 16. ... exd5?. The computer recommended instead 16... Bh8, a move I didn't even consider for some reason, assessing the position as roughly equal (with a .08 advantage for black). From that point I simply got squeezed tighter & tighter, finally, in a utterly cramped & hopeless position I threw in the towel.

Below 2000 for the first time in awhile but will jump back above it shortly with a draw against a 2500 (former 2600 but lost a bunch on time, signed in just hours before he lost on time to me :(). He can try to drag it on but the game is dead drawn & will end in either repetition or stalemate.

I played through that one, looks like a draw. Didn't you play an earlier game against madhi82 where he won?

I just lost to our col, queen_roro and windraworlose (WL England vs. Canada). :( I hate losing!

I won a small regional tournament last weekend,in which I won the following game which I won with black.
The position after 23 moves is quite unusual, just a pity that white had a defence against the mate so that all the fireworks just ended in having to convert an extra pawn in the endgame. But ain't that typical...
I also apologize for not providing any notes, but since I play this line regulary you must understand that I have some opening secrets that I want to keep. Just let me point out one amusing line; if 21.Kxg3 then 21...Rh3+ 22.Kf4 (22.Kg2 Nh4+ 23.Kg1 Nef3#)Ne1! 23.Bxf7 (23.Rxe1 Rf3+ 24.Kg5 f6+ 25.Kh4 Rh3#, 23.f3 Ng2+ 24.Kg5 f6#)N1d3+ 24.Kg5 Nf3+ 25.Kg6 Nde5# That would have been something...
Also I was short on time at the end of the game (the time limit was 90+30 minutes) so it might very well be that my treatment of the ending left something to be desired.
But still, I am quite satisfied with this:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 d6 5.c3 Bd7 6.d4 Nge7 7.Bb3 h6 8.Nbd2 Ng6 9.Nc4 Be7 10.Ne3 Bg5 11.Nxg5 hxg5 12.g3 exd4 13.cxd4 Kf8 14.0-0 Qf6 15.Nd5 Qxd4 16.Qxd4 Nxd4 17.Nxc7 Nf3+ 18.Kg2 Nge5 19.h4 gxh4 20.Nxa8 hxg3 21.Rh1 Rxh1 22.Kxh1 Bh3 23.fxg3 Ng4 24.Be3 Nxe3 25.Rg1 Ng4 26.Rg2 Bxg2+ 27.Kxg2 Ne1+ 28.Kf1 Nd3+ 29.Ke2 Nc1+ 30.Kf3 Ne5+ 31.Ke3 Nxb3 32.axb3 Kd7 33.Kd4 Kd7 34.Nb6+ Ke6 35.Nd5 Nc6+ 36.Ke3 Ke5 37.Nf4 Nb4 38.Ne2 g5 39.Ng1 g4 40.Ne2 d5 41.exd5 Nxd5+ 42.Kd3 f5 43.Kc4 Ke4 44.b4 Ne3+ 45.Kc5 Kf3 46.Nd4+ Kg3 47.Ne6 Kf2 48.Nf4 g3 49.Kb6 Kf3 50.Nh3 Nd5+ 51.Kxb7 Nxb4 52.Kb6 Kg4 53.Ng1 f4 54.Ka5 Nd3 55.Kxa6 Nxb2 56.Kb5 f3 0-1

The Modern Steinitz is IMO underestimated.

Not a game report, but I've just had several games start where my opponents are playing very rare openings like 1.e3 or diverging from the beaten path really early. When that happens in OTB you just forge ahead, but in correspondence I find myself trying to find out if it's been played before and what the results were. :crazyeye:

I hope I'm one of those people who aren't playing like a normal person! ;)

Wow! That would be quite an accomplishment, because she's really tough! She easily beat me!

I already know I won't be advancing. I've lost too many matches already to be in the top 2 of my group. :(

Maybe next year will be my year! ;)

I'm not 100% sure yet, but it looks like I'm about to get a win vs queen_roro.
It sure looks like a win to me! Question: your opponent is a 2113 level player, an expert, yet Black's play seems to have, if not actively helped White's attack, sleepwalked into a mate. From Black's knight move that led to a destroyed castled position to the capture on move 20 leading (from an admittedly superficial glance) a quick mating attack. Black's play, in those respects, not what I would've expected from an expert. Just commenting, I'm no expert! :)

I think black was lost and getting mated after Ng5. Even good players can get bashed by direct attacks in the Sicilian!
