Looks like I'm going to lose my second WL match to winloseordraw. :( He managed to get a pawn transformed into a queen! :( He still has a rook. I just have some pawns left.

Which is to say, not impossible.
I just lost to him, so it was impossible. ;) 4 games left to finish before my one-on-one challenges. I'm so glad Labtec600 finally moved. It seems that guy takes forever to make up his mind. I'd have won on time by now if he didn't keep taking vacation time.

Looks like I misplayed the game vs. snowwhite1974 that we talked about. I don't expect to have any chances in the endgame but I'll do what I can and hope for a mistake of some sort.

On the flip side I have a very interesting game going in the Qxd4 line vs. goodlast in my World League game. (As usual, no specific discussion of games in progress.)

I just lost this game to Rael in Live Chess (I'm white):
1. e4 d5
2. d3 dxe4
3. dxe4 Qxd1+
4. Kxd1 Nc6
5. Bc4 Nf6
6. Nc3 e5
7. Be3 Bb4
8. a3 Bxc3
9. bxc3 Nxe4
10. Nf3 Nxc3+
11. Kd2 Ne4+
12. Kd3 Nf6
13. Rad1 O-O
14. Ke2 Bg4
15. h3 Bf5
16. Kf1 Bxc2
17. Rc1 Be4
18. a4 a5
19. Bd2 b6
20. Bb3 Bd3+
21. Kg1 e4
22. Ne1 Nd4
23. Rxc7 Nxb3
24. Rc3 Nxd2
25. Rxd3 exd3
26. Nxd3 Rad8
27. Nb2 Nfe4
28. Kh2 Nxf2
29. Rd1 Nxd1
30. Nd3 Rxd3

I resigned after that, realizing I couldn't win the game. Where did I go wrong?

You didn't seem to be developing or playing with a plan.
Your second move resulted in a Q trade on d1 that removed your castling rights.
Your eighth move (instead of something line Nge2) gave you doubled and isolated c pawns and lost the e pawn.
Your tenth and sixteenth moves each lost a c pawn.
By then you'd essentially ceded the center.
You may have been able to hang on a little longe with 23 Bd1 (not giving up the piece for the pawn) but it would have just been prolonging the agony.

I only have time to plan when I'm doing correspondence. ;) I had to make quick decisions early or risk running out of time later on.

Was that a blitz game? White's 8 a3? started the pawns falling where 8 Nd5 seems much better. 12 Kd3 advancing seems dangerous where 12 Kc1 is safer. But by move 13, White is down 2 pawns with no compensation, shattered pawns, and a King exposed to enemy attack: I'd think that White would have difficulty regardless from then on. 13 Rad1? misses the 13 ...e4 forking King and knight but fortunately Black overlooked it too. 22 Rxc6 looks better than the actual 22 Ne1? but it was still difficult for White by then. I agree with the suggested 23 Bd1 though when we look at White's pieces they looked all bullied by Black with White's other rook trapped by his King in the corner.

Tactically things went astray early on for White and I don't think White had the opportunity for any plausible strategy after losing significant material later. But it's only one game.

It was a fun game to replay; shorter time limits lead to tense play. Thanks.

Just thought I'd qukly share one of my games. Nice example of a spatial advantage.
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 d6
3. Bc4 c6
4. Nc3 Bg4
I suspect my opponent was trying to lure me into trying Legal's mate here, which would have failed due to the pawn on c6.
5. d3 Nf6
6. O-O g6
7. h3 Bxf3
8. Qxf3 Bg7
9. Bg5 O-O
10. Qe3 Qd7
11. f4 d5
I gained two pawns from the subsequent exchanges, and create a powerful pawn on f6. Keeping it simple with exf4 was what I would have done.
12. fxe5 dxc4
13. exf6 Bh8
14. dxc4 Qe6
15. Rad1
I hang the c pawn, but my opponent doesn't notice.
15. ...Nd7
16. Qd4 Ne5
17. b3 b6
18. Ne2 c5
19. Qd5 Qxd5
20. exd5 Rad8
Not a lot my opponent can do here, so I start manoeuvring my knight with a view to mating on h6.
21. Ng3 Nd7
22. Ne4 Ne5
Not too constructive.
23. Nf2 Rfe8
24. Rfe1 Nd7
25. Ng4 h5
26. Nh6+ Kf8
27. Re7
Threatens to mate on f7. And now Black is truly pinned down. 27...Rxe7 fails because of 28. fxe7+ Kg7 29. exd8=Q. The finish ...
27...Ne5
28. Re1 Nd7
29. Rxf7#

Had a nice little Game/120 with white last night in our OTB league.

1) d4 Nf6
2) c4 g6
3) Nc3 Bg7
4) e4 d6
5) Bd3 (not the most common, but I prefer the KN on e2 and I don't like my B blocked)
5) ... 0-0
6) Nge2 e5
7) d5 a5
8) f3 Na6
9) Be3 Ne8
10) h4 f5
11) Bg5 (darn, I ended up wasting a tempo on move 9)
11) ... Bf6
12) ef Bxf5
13) Bxf5 gf
14) Qd2 Bxg5
15) hg (accepting the doubled g pawns with a somewhat vulnerable g5 pawn in exchange for the half-open h file - also, I wanted to keep Qs on the board)
15) ... Qe7
16) 0-0-0 (getting out of some problems with a potential e-file opening and preparing to double the Rs on the h-file)
16) ... Rd8
17) Rh6 Rf7
18) Ng3 (to delay Rf7g7 - there are also potential lines where Nh5# occurs after an exchange sac and king chase)
18) ... Nc5
19) R1h1 Nd3+ (now I had to look at Qxd3 Qxg5+, f4 ef, Nf1 and the various discoveries and collapsing K-side pawns - I finally opted to avoid all of that)
20) Kc2 Nf5
21) Nge2 Ng6 (21.. Qxg5 has problems with g3 Ne6, de)
22) g3 c6 (60 minutes left for black and 74 minutes for white after f4)
23) f4 Nc7 (23.. e4 faces Qd4 with things like the threat of Rxg3 hg, Rh8# - now I need to find another way to get the Q into play while still guarding f4)
24) Qd3 Qd7
25) Qf3 Re8
26) Qh5 Rg7 (to prevent Rxg6 - now I decide to take a couple of moves to limit counterplay before trying to break through) (43 minutes left for black)
27) a4 Ree7
28) b3 Qe8 (now it is time to try to break through)
29) g4 Qf7 (29 minutes left for white)
30) Ng3 Nxf4
31) Qxf7+ Rexf7
32) Nxf5 Rxg5
33) Rxd6 (the point - h6 is open for N-forks)
33) ... Rxf5 (saccing the exchange to blunt the attack)
34) gf Rg2+ (counterattacking rather than facing getting squeezed)
35) Kd1 Na6
36) Ne4 h5 (13 minutes left for black)
37) dc bc
38) Nf6+ Kf8
39) Nxh5 Ne2
40) Nf6 (now the h-file is open, so I expected a last ditch R-trade - 20 minutes left for white)
40) ... Ke7
41) Re6+ Kd8
42) Rh8+ Kc7
43) Rh7+ Kb6
44) Nd7+ resign (rather than get mated or face Kb7, Nxe5+ Nc7, and then various types of pressure)

Interesting game. Looks like you missed a strong continuation with 19. g6. Later the computer suggest 27...Qd7 which could lead to a perpetual after 28. Rxh7 Rxh7 29. Qxg6+ Rg7 30. Qh6 Rh7 etc.

I wanted more h-file pressure before going into 19. g6 hg, Rxg6+ Rg7 and the resultant threat to my g5 pawn. I also missed that my opponent actually had Nd3 as a viable move to get his N to g6.

I would have looked for better than a perpet after ... Qd7, but I don't know if I had enough. His Qe8 made my g4 push possible.
