Sarissaphoroi: Unlike the other cities of Greece, the Larissans have a strong tradition of horsemanship. This tradition is exemplified by the Sarissaphoroi, the heavy lancers of the Larissan army. Armed with long "sarissa" pikes which outreach the spear of a typical hoplite, and well-armored with bronze scale and a leather cuirass, these heavy cavalry can shatter enemy lines with their powerful charge. The Sarissaphoroi are well-trained and highly skilled horsemen, and use their tactical mobility to great advantage, outrunning anf outmaneuvering slower infantry formations to strike at the rear or flanks. Once an enemy line has crumbled, the cavalry can effectively chase down the fleeing soldiers. The only weakness of the Sarissaphoroi is their vulnerability if bogged down in hand-to-hand combat; the long pike is useless at sword range, and the Sarissaphoroi carry only a small short sword for close-in protection.

To Agrinion, Naousa, Korzania, Ispalia, & Thessaly:
From Larissa:
Hail, brothers, men of northern Greece, defenders of Hellas! Larissa greets you and prays that the gods keep you. We states of northern Greece have historically been mistreated by the self-righteous southerners. Those high and mighty Spartans, the Corinthian and Thebans too. They see us as less than Greek, as less than human, as no better than the barbarian Celts and Persians! But we are not. We are every bit as Greek as they are, if not more; we have shed our blood to defend Greece from northern barbarian invasion, such that THEY might enjoy peace and grow prosperous! Larissa will no longer carry such insults as the arrogant southern states would throw at us. I am calling for an alliance, the formation of a Thessalian League between our states, the great states of the North. Together, we can be great; together we can show those haughty Thebans that we are their equals, or better. Men, will you join me in this League? Will you join with me to defend the honor of our peoples and of our states? Or are you cowards and wives, who would bear silently the insults of the southern poleis?

To Larissa
From Naousa, Ispalia and Thessaly

We accept this League, may our armies prove strong enough for the task.

From Korzania Agrinion

This is an outrage! You wish to take our independence. If you TRY this sacrilidge then prepare to fight for every inch!

I'll get in my stats sometime Saturday, its Hell week for a play at the moment. I won't be home tommorrow until 9:45, so.....yah....:(

To Larissa, Agrinion, Naousa, Korzania, Ispalia, & Thessaly:
From: Thebes
Hail, men of northern greece. Thebes comes with a warning! Do not form this alliance. You say you are not barbarians, and the southern states have never viewed
you as barbarians. You are all noble and worthy, but this aggression against the south truly sounds like it comes out of the mouth of a barbarian! Stop this foolishness and you will not be sent into the halls of Hades himself by the Theban Hoplites

From Agrinion and Karzonia

We dont know what the hell you are talking about, bite your tounge!

The rest of the states awaits Larissa's reply before giving their own.

To Thebes
From Agrinion and Karzonia

We are not any such alliance. Buzz off.

to Sparta, Athens, Argos, Larissa, Patma
from Naxos

Greetings, noble mainlanders.
The peaceful people of Naxos would like to establish trade with your noble nations. In exchange for the famed olive oils, wines and sheepskins your people make, we have ceramics and ampohrae made of fine Naxos clay, jewelry made of the famed Naxos eye stone, and the tastiest sea urchins to ever tickle your palate.

I look forward to your favourable replies.

OOC:
Naxos eye is real. It's a stone unique to the Cycleades Islands, of which Naxos is the largest island.

To Thebes:
From Larissa:
Ha! This is a good joke! You say the states of the south have never insulted our peoples and called us barbarians, yet on how many occasions have the very kings of Thebes laughed at our rulers and refused our emissaries audience? No, sir, Larissa will not be intimidated by the likes of Thebes. We form this League not for aggression against the southern states, but for mutual protection from them; never again shall Argos and Athens be allowed to colonize our lands. This is not an alliance against you; it is a league of friendship between our states, and no danger to you. Keep to your own affairs and stay out of the north, unless it is war that you wish for.

To Agrinion & Korzenia:
From Larissa:
Have it your way. Know that Larissa still desires peaceful and amicable relations with your fine states.

To Naxos:
From Larissa:
We should be more than glad to open trade with you, friends, although I am afraid we have no caravans or trade fleets available at this time.

To Larissa,
From Naxos.

We are commissioning a merchant fleet in the near future. If you would agree to it, we would like to establish a trade mission.

To Rhodes
From Khalkis

Once we have a fleet, it would be an honour to trade with you.

to Rhodes,
from Naxos.

Yes. Trade will be great. Would you like to send trade missions to Naxos?

From Chios
To Naxos, Rhodes

The vast seas of the Aegean is open for us Islanders to conquer! I suggest we form a Naval pact to ensure greater defence against the Mainlanders. Not that we need to form a separate Navy - too complicated, and a reason for conflicts besides - but an agreement to back each other up when enemy fleets emerge on the horizon.

I've ordered the building of trading ships. If you would like an agreement, please reply. If not, simply ignore this message.

So. What say ye? :)

To any nations that wish to form that leauge thing
