Ship Names When Playing England

It is massively helpful to name ships. If one has needs transfer a land unit from one ship to another mid-ocean, one can find one moving them out and back into the same craft if there are no names...plus it really brings the game alive!

Here are just a few of the names that I have used in the past (in rough order of usage)...

And so on. Sometimes I operate from a convention (carriers get statemen names, battleships are named after towns), but my favorites are the destroyers and frigates that get names like the ones on the above list.

My ship names tend to be similar to Smellingcoffee's. So things like:

Victory
Empire
Brittania
Triumphant
Invincible

Or qqch comme ça. However, I haven't stuck to names that were necessarily actual ship names. I didn't know Wikipedia had a whole list; that's rather handy, especially with larger fleets.

Never give up!

Just go to the preference menu and activate "show advanced unit action buttons".

After that you will find besides some useful new order for workers a button labeled "ABC".

My most common names (not english only ):

Early warships:

HMS Athene
HMS Demeter
HMS Thetis
HMS Hera

Ironclads and similar:

HMS Invincible
HMS Inflexible
HMS Indefatigable

Dreadnoughts and Battleships

HMS Dreadnought
HMS Terrible
HMS Immortal
HMS Relentless
HMS Resolution

Privateers (no prefix):

Drunk Drummer
Broken Sword
Lost Hope
Dancing Monk

Transports normally get Girlnames.

Oh, and sometimes when I forget to label a ship it became the HMS Nameless...
