Ships in conquered and razed cities

What happens to ships that are in a city belonging to a civ I'm not at war with when another civ (also not my enemy) captures and razes it (probably most likely if it's an auto-raze of a size 1 city)?

Do they get expelled into the water or are they lost? I suppose they don't get stranded on the shore, but I haven't tested it so I don't know.

They get expelled.

I once razed a coastal city that also had a 1 tile lake next it....

That's a good place to be, safe and sound! Did you resettle to set it free again? Or at least build a fort?
