Question
======
Should there be Quests in Civ?

Quests
=====
A Quest is composed of two things: a task and a reward. If the player (or AI) completes the definied task sucessfully, gets a reward.

The details of quests can be almost infinite, such as:
- Time: does tasks also have a timing involved?
- Is the reward known BEFORE or not?
- Are there levels (easy, medium, hard, Sid)?
- Should they only be for a type of Government?
- Should they only be for a specific era?
- Should Quests be free or under specific conditions (eg to ask for a quest you need a MGL in a city with a temple)?

Example of a Quest
==============
You are running Civ A and are allied with Civ B fighting a difficult war against C.
In order to ask for a quest, you do the needed action: place one of your MGL's in a volcano for 5 turns.
After that, the gods give you a quest: "Raze Civ B capital within 20 turns and you will get 2 technologies that NO ONE has."

I'd like to see at least an option to get more direction to the game, but I don't think that quests fit civ perfectly. I had a suggestion earlier in my 'cause'-thread - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=110381 - which is somewhat in the same direction, but I didn't receive to much positive feedback. :(

I'd give almost a definite no, but I do think this kind of thing is fun for scenario play and stuff like that.

Having this option is nice, for modding purposes that is. But it is completely unfit for the civ enviroment.

"So the lord Sid did decree that the greatest leader of the German people would ascend the great firey mountain of death, and there would he meet his destiny. And it was said that should he fail in his quest, that the great RNG would so strike him down that all may know and fear its power."
-The book of Sid 2:13-14

N.O.
here should be quests made only by DIMPLOMACY, like go kill Celts and get a $1000.

That is a good way to do Quests in the Civ "spirit".

Come to think of it, in the old Civ's the AI would propose you do attack some Civ and often would incentivate you by offering you tempting rewards! I miss that, because now I never accept the AI deals (MPP's or MA's) because there is nothing in return. Why should I break a commercial treaty for nothing in return?

As far as that should go is like mentioned above.... A.I. can proposition you with deals, and you only get your money/tech if you complete it. Such as.. yes.. attacking another civ.

Caesar: I obliterated the Egyptian army for you, despite being on your opposite border. Where is my 1000 gold?
Shaka: Sorry, you missed one Warrior in the middle of no where. The deal was the entire Egyptian army.
Caesar: What?! You cannot be serious, it is one lousy warrior and you can roll all over Cleopatra now!
Shaka: The deal was the entire army.
Caesar: That's it, I am declaring war.
Joan: Rep hit. Rep hit.

Only as part of a faction system, representing the parts of your society vying for control in your civ. Otherwise an occasional one in diplomacy would be funny. Don't care for the MMORPGs myself.

if you mean like generals (awards for fast victory, lots of planes, 50 plus tanks ect) then i think its cool, other wise no

Hmm... there's difference between quests and events. Quests are a bad idea for any Civilization game. Events could be used in custom maps to make it more interactive. With these events, you can create your own quests in a specifc scenario and even much more things, like moving a unit to a specific square on the map and something happening.

So: no quests, yes events.

I hope that everyone understand my point of view.
