Should I just surrender?

Hi
Here is my problem. It is just me and the Persians left now. They have about 100 more MI and MA more than me and seem to be able to produce units quicker too. Is there any chance I can beat them? Does anyone know of any strategies/tactics that I might be able to use?
Any help would be appreciated.

Make peace with them and then build up enough nukes to get all of their cities once and some of their cities twice. Also build up some marines and have about 4 marines per transport and have a transport for each costal city. Also in the transport put in some paratroopers.

Position the transports about three squares from the costal cities and then nuke all the costal cities. Have the marines mop up anyone who is left. Destroy the towns and use the workers you get to build airports. Unload the paratroopers into the airports and then wait a turn. Come to think of it, you might want to put some mech infantry in the airports as well. Then wait for the next turn. On your next turn nuke all of the cities that are left and then send in paratroopers to destroy the cities. Actualy, come to think of it, you do not need to put anyone in the transports, just marines. Then once you build the airport airlift paratroopers and mech infentry.

If you're playing the French, I suggest you surrender :)

Seriously though, human battle tactics are invariably far better than that of the AI. The single biggest advantage you could have is the use of good old artillery. If you have tons of these you can defeat almost any size opposition.
There are so many variable though….

I however will often chicken out in these circumstances (do a French) and go for a Spaceship victory.

Depends. What kind of border (if any) do you share with Persia? How about arsenals of nukes? What kind of government do they have (what do you have & what civ are you?). What victory conditions are checked? What does the headstart of 100 MI/MA mean (do have a total of 20 or 200 MA)? Are you already at war with them?

You should never surrender, you can still learn from losing. Are there other victory options available to you? I have never won a conquest game. I usually achieve cultural or domination before I can kill everyone. I recently had my first spaceship victory, there are always options to giving up. Give us a little more info. Good Luck

Absolutely  If you arent at war it simply doesnt matter how many units they have. Its all fluff if you can build the Spaceship faster than them anyway.

A recent game I had the Russkies were in a dominant position with techs and a massive army. However I just stayed out of a war situation with them and beat them to the spaceship anyway. :D

Sorry I should have given more info.
I am playing conquest only because I have never won this way before.
We both have SDI so nukes wont be that effective.
We also occupy one continent (pangaea option).
I think the MAs are a bigger threat than the MI because all my border cities are greater than 13 with civil defence and 5 MRLS and 15 MI to defend them. Therefore if I can take out their MA at a greater attrition rate I should be alright.
Should I lure their MA into my territory and take them out that way?
If I attack their cities first I am sure I will fail.
I hope this info is enough and thanks for your help so far guys.

Draw them in with workers, and then ambush them. If you sacrifice some workers to draw the enemy into a position with defensive bonus, you should be able to pick them off fairly quickly. I may even change by mobilization, so that you can produce military units faster. Good Luck. Remember, never surrender!

oh, its just a joke. dont take it seriously ;)

I would suggest to build up well defended fortresses (if possible on mountains etc) like hell at the border, hopefully they can't get through. Use lots of bombers & arty and don't bother to attack their cities (have stacks of doom running around - avoid *single* skirmish like worker capturing etc as there's no tactic or strategic value in doing so). You'd better raze captured cities (you don't care for reputation anymore - and it simply fits to your conquest plans), thus you need not to put defense there and need not fear culture flips; overall you will decrease their production capacities. One or another *well* placed city might not be razed in order to serve as new bomber base.
Be sure to deploy enough air sup. units at the border. You may put your economy on mobilization status and switch your government (I'd prefer communism in modern times - but other forms besides democracy might also do well).
The ai tends to avoid assaults against adamantly defended spots/stacks. If you keep your forces together, Persia might not get to any serious initiative at all (note: I don't know if ais use nukes in the field though). Be sure to end up a turn with your stuff placed on tiles with def. bonus, if possible. Protect your MA/arty stacks with lots of MI.
If it fits to map's geography, you also might put an aim on cutting off resources first. Ah, watch the seas: you don't want to have a backdoor invasion.
Yeah, and good luck, kick Xerxes butt (Comrade Grille of Egypt will do , too, in his current game tonite)! :)

Thanks for the advice.
The Persians sent all their armour across at once. Did not attempt to take any of my cities so they were just sitting there in giant stacks 3 squares into my territory.
I used copious amounts of arty and bombers to weaken them and I have started to pick them off.
When I started I had 100+ MI/MA less than them but now I have and avantage of +200 over them. I think I would have been done for if they had taken my border cities salami style but because they didnt they became exposed. I'm glad I was playing against the AI.

One important question is this:

are you playing vanilla civ3 or PTW?

If PTW then stealth bombers are great with 12  range!

I am playing PTW and have just captured a city that had 20 Stealth bombers in it so that is happiness all round.
Their long range has been invaluable in slowing down the Persian's initial attacks.:)

20 stealth bombers? 20?!

That's like, 4800 shields worth of military! My best manufactored goods (uncorrupted shields in my whole empire) was around 2000 once. Talk about a lucky find!

I'm impressed with capturing 20 stealth bombers. With that many, you should be able to attack the Persians land units quite easily before they're even close to threatening your cities.

could you post a save game?
It might be fun to see if I could do better

(edit don't mean to be rude and you might do the best posible)

The 20 bomber find was v lucky. They had 80 at the time. Those 20 were concentrated in a city they had just invaded by amph ass. I think they had come from the accompanying carriers.

From which year would you like an autosave?
I went to war with the Persians in 1944

Well 1944 would be nice if you still have it, if not the nearest to 1944

Could you please tell me exactly how I do that - idiot guide - and I would be pleased to it for you
