The reasons for are obvious. The future of Catholicism definitely lies their. Perhaps Mexico City or Rio or something could be the 4th Rome. But are the traditions of Rome and Europe too strong?

That would signal a will to change in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century, something the Vatican doesn't seem to be prepared to. Hence no, it will not happen unless the Catholic Church undergoes drastic reformations.

It won't

The traditions in Rome are too strong. Also changing HQ to Latin America would make it look like the church is giving up in Europe. And I'm sure many Italian Catholics would feel betrayed.

S America believes in Catholism anyway. It's europe they should guard. Besides, you try to ship an entire country to another continent ;)
It would be interesting to see a Latin pope though...

Actually, in many Latin American countries, Protestantism is growing fast, even becoming a majority in some places--IIRC Guatemala was about 50/50 when I lived there in 1999.

So maybe they MIGHT want to move down there, before they "lose" it!

Could be, but could you still consider the religion to be "Roman" Catholicism?

Although, a Latin pope isn't completely out of the question, I'm sure.

no........is like saying "move washington DC to the center of the US, so is safer there"

is tradition, and houndreds of years, plus u cant simply make a new vatican city, the present one is almost a world wonder.
u dont really need the Pope in mexico, since he visits them every few years.....and they make sure is worthwhile ^_^, hes greated like a returneing hero of some war or something. is an event compared to a small olimpics, eceryone goes tehre to see him, even for a sec..

The Vatican wont ever come to Latin America. The 2 most catholic countrys in the world(in % of the population) are Italy and Ireland, and they are both in Europe. The italians would feel betrayed.
However a latin pope is a real possibility.

Africa has some believers, but also has religious problems. For example, Nigeria once wanted to big the biggest church in the world (I don't know if they built it eventually as the Vatican didn't want a bigger church than their own), but at the same time any pope who would go there will be a prime target for their radical muslims. And non Christian Africans of any religion tend to identify christianity with colonialism. The pope won't be as popular there as he's in Italy

 Why? Rome has too much history and tradition. Besides, what would they do with the Vatican in Rome? Move it by helicopter? ;)

I don't care where they put it, even on Antartica, as long as it isn't in my backyard. Its to small to have an entire nation and the seat of the biggest religion in it. :)
