Check what?

took me too long to come up with the poll, however, now it's up and you can check off what you would like to see in civ4.

The option that says 'Enhanced naval and air units" is kind of stupid, now, who doesn't want anything in the game to be enhanced for civ4?

'Some pollution model' and 'some corruption model' feels a bit quirky too. :p

This is pretty vague, and almost half of them are different military enhancements.

Although I did vote for almost everything on this list, a couple of them do come with certain 'provisos' for me.
First up, I do want a simple 'inflation' system to give the 'gold' of different nations a different value based on the strength of their economy-but not seperate national currencies, or a very complicated economic model.
As for resources, I do think they should be quantified and more exhaustable, but I think it is best left in the abstract, rather than exact quantities and stockpiles, which seems to just increase the MM of the game.
As for Corruption, I do feel that a % based system would work best-meaning that smaller amount of corruption would have far less effect on small cities with little production, but quite large effects on larger, more established cities. Also, the factors which lead to corruption/crime need to be better modelled than a simple, OCN and distance from city system!

I agree many selections are general. But I think that as users, its best for us to give general direction for developer to focus on rather than coming up with detailed solutions.

It's not that informative when there's no incentive to say "no" to some feature. The developers don't work like this saying "what would be cool" and then implementing all of them.

If I did vote, I'd say yes to practically everything ... (excluding national currency, at first glance.) And I don't think a poll where you vote for everything helps anybody figure out what direction I want for Civ.

The vagueness of some features combined with the extreme detail of other features doesn't help much either.

I need to point out that this is NOT a poll where everyone voted for everything. You might have voted 'yes' on every selection, however, the poll result so far clearly indicated that some choice are more popular than other, this suggests that others did not do the same as you did.
As a software developer myself, I know it is true that "The developers don't work like this saying "what would be cool" and then implementing all of them." The way the process work is that they will indentify what is cool and implement some of them. I think it is best not to make uneducated guess about the inner working of some organization that you do not know very much about.
As I said before, some options showed more support than others, as a result, the developer can still get an idea of what is considered to be priority by the majority.

its tough to come up with precise wording for polls -eh?

I voted for modifications to resource model - I would like to see resources reduce shield cost of units by a percentage for each resource held... NOT whether or not you can build it at all.

also voted for shooting down helicopters, more diplo, and more useful allies.

Of course I would also vote for an AI that properly uses all the games features (navy, air force, armies, artillary, blah blah blah)

Not to be overly negative...

But I think a poll where more than 60% of the users support most things is a little unfruitful... not to mention the fact that the things that scored below 60% probably had more to do with the fact that they were "some" feature.

But most of all, it's not exhaustive. Just because some of these choices will get higher votes doesn't make them the priority of the majority. You've just forced people to pick from the 20 features that you happened to notice, not that I claim to know what the top 20 features are on a board with 2000 threads. But guaranteed that they'd arouse more discussion than "some pollution model", let alone 8 different kinds of military ideas.

Anyway, I think I made my point. And at the very least, we have another metathread that mentions a bunch of recent feature suggestions. Don't mean to flame anybody. To offer a constructive suggestion, maybe going with broad categories like "improve the military" and "improve the economy" and "improve culture" might be more useful to get a sense of peoples' priorities.

Thanx for using (mostly) things I didn't include in mine (choices).

Good Poll, But Man, I REALLY Want A Pressure Of The UN To Stop Smaller Countries in the Game To Stop The ICBM Trade, that would really be awesome! Plus the National Currency Idea is Terrific! :goodjob:

Checked for almost everything except "some" pollution/corruption, because I was unsure if it should have read "same"?

Both are good yet unsatisfactory implemented concepts, as by now.

Didn't check for "installations in foreign territory" as I see problems with the AI when either of the players changes sides.

I only checked 4 options: City trading, more diplomatic options, enchanced air and naval combat and more usefull alies.

I think the problem is not so much with the poll as with the greedy voters. I think we should just check, say, the top 5 features we want the most. This way the difference between the popularity of each feature will be more pronounced.
