I say the Barbarians should get a Unique Unit for each era. Any ideas/suggestions/derision?

I think they should only get a unique unit in the modern era and that would be the terrorist. That way barbarians would replace natureal disasters and make the end game a bit more intersting :D

I think the red, evil ones will hav generic units that match the real civs, like in CIV2,
only getting more capable as time progresses.:D

Like this...

Ancient= Legions, Swordsmen, led by crap leader guy!
Middle ages= Knights, catapults, boats too, still led by crap leader guy!
Industrial= musketmen, cannons, privateers, led by crap leader guy!
Modern= Partisans, artillery, led by crap leader guy!

Only now they come out to play from towns!
Punishment attacks with air missions, anyone?

ancient: the hunns (basically horsemen)

middleages: viking raiders that come from the sea (btw, if the vikings would have been in the game, their UU could have been a swordsman with amphibios attack)

Industrious: i dunno, maybe unions(upset factory workers)?
Modern era: terrorists

but thi is just my opinion

"Onions"? Eh!? How can vegetables pose a threat!..oh UNIONS!

oops! sorry!

how 'bout:

Ancient: Huns
Middle ages: Pirates
Industrial: Capitalists
Modern: Politicians

How are capitalists or politicians barbarians?

I know, I know you're kidding

Yes, I'm kidding.
Sort of. Politicians ARE modern-age barbarians, pillaging the land and raping the people (and the other way around, too) for their personal gain and enjoyment. The only difference: They don't usually wear those little viking hats like the barbs in Civ2 do.

Emperor Snefix: I want a viking hat! Why don't I have a viking hat?

Domestic Affairs Advisor Quistis Trepe: Well, your greatness, the currently viking population in our empire is at an all time low. This would perhaps contribute to the lack of their existance. The hats, that is.

Emperor Snefix: Hmm... Yes. Grand Admiral Thrwan!

Grand Admiral Thrawn: Yes, me liege?

Emperor Snefix: I would like you to take the Third Imperial Navy and fetch me a viking hat. You may give them up to §100,000. If they refuse, take all their viking hats and destroy their entire civilization.

Grand Admiral Thrawn: As you will, your exellency.

Emperor Snefix: Also take Captain Gilad Pellaeon with you, this would be some good experience for him.

Grand Admiral Thrawn: Yes sir, with your permission may I go to accomplish you bidding?

Emperor Snefix: Yes you may leave. Oh, Advisor Trepe- I would like you to join me in my personal chambers to discuss the current affairs of the empire.

Advisor Trepe: Yes. I will be there momentarily, sir.

Emperor Snefix: It's good to be the king, or Emperor in this case. Bwahaha!

i think a barbarian UU would be cool, just imagine a barbarian golden age... Great!

Pardon me, an interesting thread but isn't it a little bit irrelevant seeing as the game has gone gold? Just like that sill suggestions and ideas forum. (I know that it is closing tomorrow or something BTW)

well god darnit! then i shall se it as my mission in life to have made the last post before they close this forum

They're not going to close this forum, they're closing the "sUggestions and Ideas" forum I bleive. Now just calm down, I know you liked you viking UU idea but you've got to just let it go.

Who knows what Firaxis has in store for us.... ;)

:viking:

Some info on barbarians from the Civ3 manual:

- Barbarians don't just spring up out of nowhere. Now, they originate from encampments and have names. Villages on the coast can spawn seagoing vessels.
- There are no barbarian leaders. To get their gold, seek out and invade the barbarian encampments.
- Barbarians do not capture undefended cities. Now, they just pillage the place and move on. They don't give you that polite warning, either.
- Barbarians always carry the color white.
- Once you destroy an encampment, no more barbarians will come from it, but barbarians already created will continue to exist.
