I really hope they have an option where you can see how all the battle multipliers calculate into a power rating whenever there is a battle, like they did in SMAC and Colonization. This will especially be the case as such factors become more relevant.
that idea sounds useful... i have this game, vary low tech, meknet or something like that, its a battle tech game... it would show you the equations used during attacks and stuff at the bottem of the screen... vary useful if you know order of operations
I don't want it. One of the things of civ is that you have to claculate the odds. I already know the multipliers (well, for vanilla). Just have to calcute them.
The thing is, not everyone wants to do the math themselves. I liked the SMAC feature (toggleable) where if you were attacking, you would be informed of the odds, and you would always be informed if the odds were heavily against you.
they can have the military advisor pop up everytime you have the odds against you. but the thing is, after awhile, you start to get an idea of how you would fare against certain troops.
i normally throw my obsolete units against superior ones in hopes of taking away 1 hp, then having my normal units attack. of course, the popping advisor will become annoying if i already know if i'm going to lose...
Things are going to be different in Civ IV. It may take some time to find out what the odds formulas are. So add this, but make it toggleable. Those who are constantly fighting, you can turn it off when you need to. Peaceniks like myself can leave it on so that we aren't completely bewildered when we go to war every third game or so. (exaggeration. More like two out of every three)
I've noticed in one of the screenshots that a unit had a percentage - xx% or something - over it. Now, it might very well have been in a city and it represented the progress on a particular improvement/unit/wonder being constructed, but my first impression was that it was displaying the advantages of the unit's particular terrain/city/fortification.
Leaders do not calculate their own operational costs, those are duties they delegate. They use the info they receive from reports to make big decisions.
