So I have been applying strat i figured with China at the moment on immortal pang map and it is kicking ass and I have been shocked at just how effective it is. it Basically literally renders tech almost irrelevant.

with the Chinese I have 3 production citys all of which have barracks and armory and will have military academy when I can and the capital has heroic epic.

I have only just got musketmen, and have not built any yet having no iron i could only build spearmen or warriors.

and so what.

arabia declare on me and its like sparta drastily out numbered and teched i still have more power as my chokus are doing 18 per shot and two shots a turn soon to be three with promotions.

the epic realisation of the power of this strat just hit me when the irouqi declared on me and attacked my warrior with a musketmen and took more damage then the warrior did. then the warrior attacked the musketman and finished him off.

remember my warrior has 75% terrain boost and 35% great general and heroic epic leading to a 125% mil boost. plus he was fortified.



both are on my direct border and rome are about to declare on me to.

I am not in the slightest worried.

and when i get march and blitz with this army which is nearing it will be even more un stoppable.

warriors as powerful as musketmen.

when my musketmen get built they will have only 50% terrain boost :sad: but 75% very quickly with promotion and 15% from heroic epic and 35% from great general.

basically leading to 100% mil boost right of the bat and 25% to come.

with this strat the whole military is boosted by 125%.

warriors = 13.5
spearmen=15.75
swordmen= 24.75
musketmen=36
longswordmen=40.5
riflemen=56.25

who cares about been 10 or 15 techs behind with this. this is just ridicolous.

get 3 high productive cities and do this and you have a deity beater.
 
Interesting to see a use of heroic epic and post patch-honor strat presumably. Very interesting indeed.
 
you're going to have to trim down some of those numbers.

There's 0 chance to have pre-renaissance unit production when you've got the Military academy running.

yes, a highly upgraded army will do better against the AI since it doesn't know how to keep units alive.

yeh i cant make warriors anymore but you can with iron working heroic epic before medevil era which is why i have them.

I would have built swordmen but I could not no iron.

You will care when the AI gets nukes 15 turns before you.

Why not build pikemen if you don't have iron? Knights can also easily cap cities that have been decimated by CKN. Lack of iron isn't a big deal for China, although having iron means you can start your warmongering even earlier (with swords plus archers).

In my current China game I took out my neighbor (Germany) early with 4 swords and 3 archers, started on my second neighbor, then CKN and LS came online and I finished up the rest of my continent with 4-5 CKN plus 4 LS. The game was basically won by turn 150 or so and now it's just a matter of grinding it out for the science victory.

yeah nukes might be a problem but by this point i will rule most of the world.

would have gone for pikemen but the tech tree to the chokus and then musketmen led me in a diff direction.

what difficulty you playing? unless you have a lucky start and the other civs war each other early and not you your not taking people out with 3 swordmen and archers on immortal difficulty.
 
Swordsmen and their replacements are able to take out at least one civ on deity. Caesar and hiawatha have the advantages but plain swordsmen are capable units if you get them out early enough. Once the city cs starts pushing much above 20 then it's time for siege and upgrades. But before then ...
 
OP is right, and I just ran into the AI using this strat in my game yesterday.

I was going science/Siam and had rexed 5 cities when China, which had 1 satellite city, DoWed me.

Out came an archer, and I laughed--cakewalk, I thought: I just got gifted Beijing.

So I cranked out 4-5 longswords and a cat and it was a mess. Hills all around, and Chinese pikemen way stronger than my swords. I backed off and had to wait until elephants and cannon came round to finally puppet those cities.

China with Honor creates insanely powerful early units, quite true.
