So, can somebody explain what people mean by Sid and Demi-God? :p

Ok, thanks. Guess I'll have to buy C3C then - Oh, on a side note, is Vanilla Civ3 just normal Civ3 without expansions?

Everyone keeps saying that, but I disagree. I don't find C3C Deity to be noticeably more difficult than vanilla Deity. But I seem to be in the minority there, and to be fair, I've only played a couple of C3C Deity games.

I won't argue how the game feels, Renata. Several changes make C3C here either harder or easier, depending on the map or your playing style (scarcity of resources, map/contact trading, SoZ etc).
But from the 'raw' settings, like AI production boni, corruption, goody hut outcome etc, vanilla Deity is pretty much C3C DG.

There is one big reason why C3C is more difficult, under otherwise identical circumstances: The new corruption model, which helps the AI a lot. No more RCP, no more second core - even field here. Throw in AGR, a Civ trait that really helps the AI, and you can get such killer AI Civs in C3C as never imaginable before (Sumeria...).
Of course, we're all more experienced now, so we hardly notice. And, for me, being a trader and AI manipulator at heart, C3C is indeed easier.
But, that doesn't have to say much - comparing DyP to RaR (which both have the delayed trades) is clearly a lot easier.

Fair enough. But I think vanilla and C3C Deity are identical in terms of production and unit bonuses, aren't they? And you missed the AI-AI trade rate: that *is* higher for C3C Deity than for vanilla Deity.

Starting/free units and Barb attack bonus match for Deity-Deity.
AI cost factor is 70% on DG, 60% on both Deities.

Percentage of optimal cities is 70% for DG and VC-Deity, and AI trade rate 160 in both again.

So, to be fair: DG is a bit easier than VC-D. The units don't matter much, but the cost factor does.

But, the main point stays: C3C Deity is substantially harder than VC-D in 'hard settings'. Ai trade is is 170 vs 160, and most important: Corruption (which hits harder in C3C anyway - OTOH, now Courthouses and Communism do help) is higher - 60%OCN instead of 70%.
And, you'll never get a tech from hut with a non-EXP Civ (that does matter, if you start right next to one).

I haven't noticed much difference, either. In fact, C3C Deity, at times, seems easier than vanilla Deity.

3 things that make Conquests a lot easier than Vanilla/PTW

1. The biggie. 'Improved'(=insanely overpowered) armies. Of course they also neglected to properly code the construction of these for the AIs.

2. Artillery type units more efficient in taking towns since they target defending units only. Also, the trebuchet is a nice addition. In essence you need less artillery.

3. New traits. At least the Conquests AIs get to use these, and to good effect. But in the hands of a human their power is enhanced even further. Agricultural makes settler factories much easier to setup and seafaring makes 'suicide curraughs' extremely powerful.
