My pleasure I will enjoy reading what happens. I played this one out solo and built the GL myself (just barely). It is my opinion that given the tech pace and cost of tech it is almost a must have on Sid. Have won with Iroquois on Sid without the GL but their UU is so powerful that early :hammer: was easier. By the time you get your UU (which is not that great) the AI will have rifles or even infantry if you don't slow the tech pace down. I'd go sooner with swords and spears and hope an AI dogpile can do the rest (now how to scrape together enough to buy ROP and allies?). Alternately if you could get an army for cover you'd be golden. Just remembered winning as the Viks on Sid without the GL thanks to army cover and zerks. Sorry for butting into your game but I really enjoy thinking about Sid tactics. Good luck, I will butt out now and enjoy what unfolds.

Oh well... here we go with my 10 turns...

Pre-turn check:

Move couple of citizens around to get more gold; everything else looks good.
Well, except of the fact that Great Lib. is build in Viking's capital - Trondheim,
population 12 and is located on exactly opposite side of our continent. It is heavily defended by muskets. I have no slightest idea on how we will manage to get there.

T1. 330BC Calcutta lib->horse... I switched Karachi from lib to FP
We haven't really thought we FP will go, but Karachi seems to be a good location.

T2. 310BC Delhi horse->horse

T3. 290BC. Bombay lib->horse
t4. 270BC. Delhi horse->horse; bangalore horse->horse. Good thing Odense is only protected by spear

IBT. Dacca flipped to Babylon.. :sad: Oh, well it was worth trying.. There goes our Iron. Scandinavians booted us of their land.

T5. 250BC. Horse was built somewhere... I am so distracted by Dacca fall. :(

IBT. Babylons booted us out. Osmans are working on Bach's.

T6. 230BC. Bombay horse->horse Delhi horse->horse; Madras lib->horse

IBT: Ottomans are building Copernicus.

T7. 210BC. Declare on Vikings. Attacking Odense. It was only defended by 2 spears. I lost one horse and Odense is ours.
I signed France into MA against Vikings for silks and 150Gold. Let's see how it goes.

IBT. Vikings sink our curragh. French completed Copernicus. Babylon booted our troops in a weak try to get to the marsh city

T8. 190BC. Situation is somewhat stupid. I can't build in our cities nothing but military units and
we are already paying for unit support

T9. 170BC. We quelles 3 resistors on Odense - 1 to go.

T10. 150BC. Resistans in Odence is over. I disbanded 4 horses in Odense and temple will be built next turn. Oh, Bangalore needs some MM-ing. I forgot to do before uploading save.

That is it folks... What do we do next??? :confused:

I wouldn't be surprised if the AI has a railnet before we get enough Jumbos.
Shouldn't we abandon Odense, and resettle?

I have no expertise playing SID,but Odense is probably going to be ok. It will starve in 2 turns and it already has temple built for culture. :undecide:

Buck up guys, so the Vikings built the Great Library. It's not the end of the world.

How's about we take on Babylon?

Sir Bugsy - up
Bede - on deck

I have it. Babylon would have a fairly narrow front as long as they don't get an ROP with France. We'll need an MA.

On the flip side we will then have a very long front if we every have to fight France. Actually we already have a very long front if we ever have to fight France.

Babylon has muskets and Ancient Cavalry...
All we have - spears and horses...
It will be a tough fight

I bet Pepsi-cola that by the time we get our Jumbos AIs will have riflemen
if not infantry.

so? attack with arty as well. that's why i recommended math at the end of my turns, so we could build something other than horses and spears and they require no resourses. attacking with jumbo's and trebs should be doabe against rifles, probably suicide against infantry, but do we have a choice? we really could use that iron and it's a good goal for the immediate future.

also, i still recommend buying math and then researching or buying currency so we can get markets built as well. going 10turns without a tech advance is very painful.

Best we learn how to count so we can throw rocks. :)

I've always thought that was an interesting concept. When you learn to add and subtract, then you can heave rocks. It is my first priority. I'll be playing my turns shortly.

Need to to figger them trajectories for the boulders, no? Then you gotta be able to count so you'll know when you have enough coolies in the basket for a counterweight.

Actually, the truth is that those lofty mathematicians talked at such great length and bored everybody else to tears, that mobs formed and stoned a few of them to death. While watching these events, some crackpot said that he wished he could throw bigger stones, and then some fool starting thinking up ways to do that.

Thus A to B to C... Mathematics leads to catapult invention. :lol:

Pre-flight – 150 BC – Shopping around for a good abacus, I find that Hammi will sell it for 20gpt & 60G, Osman for 19G & 60G, but Joan will sell for 16gpt & 60G. I give the fair maiden our business in hopes that she’ll honor our MA against Ragnar. As predicted the crowds figure out a way to heave mathematicians over the walls of cities using catapults.

A couple cities aren’t exactly optimal, so I get a few more turns off of our FP and gain a few coppers going into our coffers. Looks like we’ll lose our curragh during the IBT.

Early - As expected, our curragh is sunk, and a warrior on a mountain is lost. Was that a French cavalryman that just rode by? :eek: Yeah, that was a French Cavalryman. I try to take a screen shot, but the cavs are like ghosts.
CoL=>Philosophy
Jaipur, Bengal: library=>cat
Madras, Bangalore: horse=>cat
Odense: temple=>library
Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta: horse=>horse
Hyderabad: library=>barracks

Middle – We get the incense hooked up. It gains us 6 gpt, with lux at zero. I still can’t fire all the specialists.
Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta: horse=>horse=>horse
Madras, Bangalore: cat=>cat=>cat
French complete Bach’s

Late – A Viking caravel heads down our coast. We’ll probably see a berserk attack on the coast some where.

The Ottomans declare on the Babylonians, and the boys in blue stream westward into our lands.
Jaipur, Madras: cat=>cat
Delhi: horse=>horse

After Action – There is a Viking caravel prowling the fog to the south. Probably looking for a weaker city to attack. I have been keeping units in the coastal cities. We can finally buy currency from France, but it would take most of our economy: 288G, 20GPT & WM.

We now have 6 cats and 27 horsemen if you would like to go to war with someone other than the Vikings. We will probably be facing rifles. We have seven turns left on the MA with France. Our unit support is 18 gpt, but I wouldn’t go disbanding anything anytime soon.

I do believe Brother Bede is up with Sirian on deck.

Getting out the buckets and mops for swabbing.

Got it.

50AD

In 70AD can buy contact with the Romans from Hammi for 40g and a map so I do it and discover that the Romans are at least as ignorant as we are, lacking Math and Lit, but they know Philosophy, Map Making and Mysticism. :hmm:

They will sell us Map Making for Maths and Lit plus 85g. We could use some harbors so done.

Also in 70AD Persia and the Turk sign a alliance against Babylon and Persia joins in against Hammi.

All of a sudden France has all the money in the world and The Turkoman does not.

Dijon does a border expansion and our western horses go to France.

In 90AD France and Babylon ally against the Vikings and Babylon goes to war against the axe guys.

In 110AD Rome joins France in the war against the Vikings.

In 130Ad I decide to go ahead and buy iron from Joan. She holds me up for 188g+8gpt but we have got to break out of this corner and horses and cats ain't going to do it.

In 150AD send a couple of horsemen through France to look at what's going on up north. (Joan graciously consented to an free RoP. The riders are admiring the French workers' natty braces.

In 190AD cancel the alliance against the Vikings with Joan and sell her Silks for her camisole for her TM and 58g+13gpt. And immeditely afterwards Joan signs a peace deal with Ragnar double crossing her good buddy Hammi :mischief:

Ragnar will pay us his 1 gold piece for peace and contact with Persia which everybody else values at 80-100g. Done.

By 250 there is a large force (8 cats, 13 horsemen, an archer and 3 swords with another handful of swordsman on the way) assembled at the border with Babylon by Odense. Hammi has been using his troops in this quandrant to fight Ottomans in French territory and the heaviest attackers I've seen have been LB's though there is at least one musket defending Samarra.

mag7_250AD.jpg

We can buy Currency for half the treasury and all our income, but we can use it to get techs and money from Rome.

We're still standing and not dead or in last place among the living.

Sirian - has an appointment in Samarra ;)
DJMGator13 - on deck

My Gap is still standing? Awesome. :cool:

I get to lead our armies into glorious battle? Um, is it OK if I lead from the rear? :lol:

You guys may want to check out Epic 47 when Gris gets it posted. You might have a good time with it -- if the name of the game doesn't scare you off, that is. :D
