Sid Vicious and The Magnificent 7+1

Yeah, everybody in the world is in the MA, though there may be two guys so far in the fog they don't know how to write yet.

I wouldn't count on it. Those AI are as thick as thieves.

Looking at our map, I wonder if a little less caution and a little more Wei Chi ambition would have been in order. My first turn would appear to be coming after all land grab destiny has been set, though.

I'll try to get to this tomorrow, although in the evening I have Rogue Revival team variant.

IT 1250BC: Delhi changed to temple production. I don't see where we're going to grab two more cities, much less three or four. We are already completely hemmed in. I whipped a temple at Karachi and change a few other things, too, including moving our lone scientist to Kolhapur. That town should be "moved south" a couple of tiles, so I'll see that this is done.

Early: Babs establish embassy with us. Yay, a freebie. :crazyeye:

Aha! Babs were intent on showing us their new War Academy, named after Son of the Zoo or some such.

Middle: Our curragh achieves a GLORIOUS VICTORY over the heathen barbarian fleet.

sid7-1100bc.jpg

We complete some barracks and temples.

Late: Kolhapur is relocated.

Sirian's Gap is founded out where we probably have little business being. I chose the most defensive-looking location for this gap-poaching venture. I am thinking that if we ever do get around to taking land from anybody, that the AIs who have settled over here to our east are mostly colonial stretches, sometimes quite far from their cores.

I suggest that Jaipur is thus the best geographical location for our FP.

TALLY

Units lost: zero
Units gained: eleven (5 workers, 2 vet spears, 1 curragh, 3 reg wars).
Cities: 11 total, 1 new, 1 moved
Buildings: 5 new temples, a couple barracks
Granaries: almost finished in several towns.
Tech: finished the minsci on Writing. Otherwise, my hands were tied.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

* I'm thinking we should obtain CoL and Phi ASAP, then minsci our way to Republic in fifty turns, buying other techs as feasible.

* Delhi and three solid towns near it all have barracks. We do have horses. Maybe we should pursue HBR and train horse units? Possible upgrades to Jumbo Dumbos later on?

* Three temples due for whipping next round, all in the east.

* Uh... We might want to pile some units into the Gap. The Mongols are on the wane, and the colonies nearby are corrupt, but this IS the ludicrous difficulty setting, and we may need to resist flip pressures. Our total culture is miniscule compared to the AIs.

OUR CIV IN 1000BC:

Loosen your guns in their holsters, boys. Bad guys are on the loose.

What about plopping down a town 2 NW of Calcutta? It won't be worse off that some other towns and can use a forest chop outside its borders for something.

I've got it. I need to catchup on some reading before I play and I might post a question or two. I won't be able to play until tomorrow night at the earliest.

A desert town squeezed in by Calcutta... All it will do in the end is choke Calcutta AND risk flipping. If it did flip, it would become a legendary blunder. Cost/benefit not adding up in my book.

moving right along :) hemmed in and feeling it. graneries for some big cities so we can start pumping out units and making money is a great idea :)

let's not avoid monarchy either. i think we can afford to revolt 2x at this stage, especially if we are not doing our own research. being religous, it'll cost us 2T each time. if either republic or monarchy are available for purchase, lets get them. otherwise, i think markets for steals and deals is the best route for now. we need to be a cash machine.
btw, do we know everyone yet?

HBR is nice, and i wouldn't mind chariots now either for upgrading to horses.

this will be the problem for the whole game. if we can hold off a flip by piling units in, ok. we should also foster wars as much as possible. if the Mongols are on the wane, does anyone offer money or tech's for an MA? are we able to build anything more offensive than spears?

i agree that we need to squeeze another 1 or 2 in somewhere, not sure if that's the best spot with that French oil town right there :)

I like horses too (as long as the aren't the spotted kind).

Markets are good for wheeling, stealing, and dealing: do we know how to mint money yet?

When I turned back from the northwest it was because I had a vision of French knights pouring down our throats., even if the town didn't flip. Towards the Mongols, maybe?

Having just played Nad's Deity game we need to be very careful about flips. They almost crippled us in that game.

Good call on Kolhapur. That was my error, I just didn't want to lose the settler to that stack of 16 barbs.

We don't know Jack. All the gpt was tied up during my entire round, so I did squat on the tech front except to mark time. Writing came in, but we don't even have MASONRY yet, much less Currency. Oh, and Joan made one 20g tribute demand, to which I caved. I have about 30 science beakers invested into Code of Laws, for what that may be worth.

I could only work with what I inherited. Next player should be able to do something, though. Although with no 2fer opportunities, we're looking at buying tech. And no, we haven't met the last two civs yet. We had one warrior scouting, and he got booted out of France. I had no cash with which to buy Right of Passage, so there was nothing I could do there either.

'Gator, :bump:

SG's humming along and then BLAM, hit a brick wall because somebody is busy or distracted. :wallbash: Smaller rosters are less prone to this, but also suffer more if someone drops. It's tough to lead even a small group. :) It can also be tough to match intentions to actions. Everybody gets in over their head now and then.

I'm in favor of cutting folks some slack, but this instance is starting to drag. If there's a 72 hour rule in effect, we've crossed it.

In this instance it's time for the :whipped:

DocT - up
gozpel - on deck
grahamiam
dmanahko
Sir Bugsy
Bede
Sirian
DJMGator13 - skipped

Sorry about that with the new job and company here, this week was too hectic. I was going to post a skip last night but it got too late.

I hope that new job is going well for you, Gator. Sorry to be the prod that led to the :whipped: but I hope you'll be able to play in the next round.

Not going to be all that many rounds with the long roster and the longer odds.

India, 1000BC

Admittedly, I have no clue what to do. The Great Library isn’t build yet; if we’d have masonry, I’d risk a prebuild. But I also don’t want to trash the beakers we already invested into CoL; we can hardly afford to waste anything.
Will try to get a road to France ASAP, we have spare Silks.
Vikings and Babs are at war with the Mongols; but with our limited knowledge of the world, I don’t think we should jump in as well. OTOH, Temo has neither Iron nor Horses…will see to get a couple of units.

Turn 1: 975BC
Nothing to do.
IBT:
France starts The Great Library :(

Turn 2: 950BC
IBT:
More Civs start that Library. Bowman defeats Mongol Archer; if Hammu didn’t have a GA so far, now he has.

Turn 4: 900BC
Build Embassy in Paris. Joan is at war with Temu as well.

Turn 6: 850BC
Road to France and Ottomans completed.
Get HBR from Joan for Silks and 5gpt.

7+1_800BC.jpg

NOTES:
*We have a few units already prepared; IMHO we should go to war for a tech or so.
*More important: We could get that Iron; only problem is Choybalsan, but we could aim to raze that one…
But we need to hurry with the war, there won’t be much left in some turns.
