Signs disappear after re-entering the game

When I make some signs in civilization, exit the game and re-enter it, the signs have disappeared. I guess this is normal for everyone and not just me, but although this might not qualify as a "bug", it annoys me very much that I have to place all my signs on the map again every time I start up the game.

Unfortunately the signs are not saved, and I don't think they were intended to be. Not technically a bug, but more a dubious design descision.
