I don't actually have Sim City 2000 for PC so I thought I would reinstall Sim City 3000 for the first time in ages however it seems to be incompatable with XP. Additionally when I run the patch it either has an error code 36 running the UK version or an error code 15 running the US version.

Wondering if anyone has come across either of these problems and if there was a solution?

I've tried running it in the various compatability modes but perhaps I need to get the patch to work first.

I have an unpatched U.S. version that runs with no problems in Windows XP Home, without having any compatibility changes or anything. What exactly is the error SimCity is giving (won't start at all, some message, etc.)?

Doing a Google search, it seems Errors 15 and 36 come from having incorrect versions of patches installed - each patch version only works with a certain game version.

Good luck getting SC3K to work correctly.

It installs fine but then when I try to run it, it doesn't really do anything. If I set it to run in Windows 2000 mode it will flash black briefly and if I force it to run in 640x480 it will flash black, then show the new resolution and then flash black again as if it is trying to open the program but cannot.

I found the same information about the error codes however neither patch works so I am no longer sure what version of the game I actually have.

What version of direct x do you have? resolution and colour display?

My usual resolution is 1024x768 with 32bit colours however I have tried running it in 640x480 with 16bit colours. My vesion of directx is 9.0c

I got a XP, and Sim city 3000 (unlimited I think) American Version, and it works fine (Well last time I checked)
Well I dun kno, ask someone @ EA Games

I once installed SimCity 3000 "european edition" (or whatever it was called) under XP and it seemed to work OK but then the Advisors made it CTD.
A few months ago I picked up the "UK edition" in some sort of bargain basement packaging (€5.99) and that seems to work, although tbh I haven't spent a lot of time with it. I bought Doom3 at the same time and I haven't touched that either. I just play Civ3.
